WoW Moviewatch: How I learned to AoE and make the Scryers love me
Although this video has probably the single worst song I've heard on a WoW vid, it does manage to impress me with a mage's AoE capabilities. (Not to mention the mere fact that he manages to play pretty well on what looks like 800x600 with no mods running.) I wonder how much +damage gear I'd need for Holy Nova to perfom like that. Oh, by the way, don't bother with the last minute of the video -- it's just the song finishing its torpid existence over a black screen.

Sweeeeet, another 800x600 with no mods... long live the crappy computers!

The song is an alright remix of A Perfect Circle- Pet. Not a great choice for a wow vid, but its still better than people who use Drowning Pool- Bodies.

How dare you impugn the work of A Perfect Circle. It might not be your taste, but I personally like that song very much.
This video makes me wish I had rolled a mage. Oh well.

Yeah, it's a remix off the Emotive album and it sucks mightily compared to the original. Must say that Perfect Circle is an awesome live band to see.
Sadly on the old lock I can do about 3 yellow mobs at a time comfortably (affliction spec.) Anything around 6 or so and it turns into a bit of an issue making sure everything gets croaked... And I dislike the downtime.

1) APC is good music, there is much worse music to play.
2) Holy Nova is a Priest spell... not Mage.

Yeah, this makes me wish I had a mage as well. I may have to roll one.

I remember before they nerfed the Dampen Magic spell, the only thing stopping me from AOE-ing as many air elementals as I could was how many I could aggro at a time. I could have downed hundreds of them comfortably--they each hit for only 1 or 2 damage and there was no cap on how many could be affected by an AOE spell. Ah...memories.

Ya. Those were the days. Using level 1 arcane explosion I was easily able to round up 30-40 air elementals, and then in one big AoE lag fest put them down. Fun times.
That being said, that Mage needed to learn to round up his mobs better. He got hit far too often, and his mobs weren't clumped up enough. Once mounted he should be able to run around a group until they're nicely packed or he could just use IceBlock once he'd agro'd them all.
But ya, Mages may suck at 1vs.1 PvP, but they are solo PvE gods...

Damn, that is amazing. The amount of damage he did in a matter of like 10 seconds is freaky beyond belief. I rolled a mage alt, only level 14 ( arcane explosion...FINALLY) but yeah, hopeing to level him up to around 60+ in hope of doing some heavy farming for other characters. Thats just insane...

Heh. I see a breakfast topic coming up if we're really bored. "Which song just has PvP movie written all over it?" :D

Hmm my firemage seems to have way higher burst aoe dmg ;) But I don't think that aoeing 5-7 mobs worth it. Adding the downtime and inevitable corpse runs, solo pulling probably outperforms aoe farming like this. Well it's probably funnier than solo pulling, but whatever.

one big omission in this video. The drinking...
Sure we mages can do big aoe damage and take down 10 mobs at once. But then we have to sit for a nice long time in between each burst.
I have both a 70 mage and rogue. I'd say my rogue just about has the same kill per hour rate when farming becuase he has next to 0 downtime. Whereas my mage kills a lot fast and then drinks for a long time. That's a huge manabar to fill up even with the best primo water.
On top of it, my mage dies more often than my rogue. Sure you can pull 15 mobs at once, but every now and then, they get ya. More downtime.
Overall, after farming for a long time with both i'd say it works out to the same difference. No real advantage either way.

The damage isn't impressive at level 70, and as a mage it is not enough. My girlfriend plays a level 70 Warlock and sits right beside me. She is destruction skilled and when she fights multiple mobs and pulls out her AOE instant casts they simply fall dead in matter of a second. The screen is full of numbers from 1200 to 3400 crits. Yes, with instant casts AOE spells.
I wish I had the capabilities to record this what she does to her environment :)

Not the best APC remix but if you're a fan you can't get enough of them in various things such as remixes.

AoE is cool in certain situations, but for solo grinding I prefer pulling 1, 2 or 3 at a time. Concentrate my fire and not deplete my mana with AoE spells.
AoE rules when a warrior class is taking the flag in AV...pile on the AoE at that time.
