Pride (in the name of the Horde)

Lok'Tar! For the Horde! Strength and honor! Ew, I'd never play an Alliance character. Look, it's another stupid night elf female. If it's red, it's dead! All the kiddies play Alliance ...
If you're Horde, you hear things like this every day. The Horde has a large number of loyal partisans who take great pride in being a member of the faction, and think less of anyone on the other side. The Alliance are pretty boys, little kids, ezmode, uncreative. The Horde has all the best heroes, the Horde are the real players, the Horde are the true good guys of WoW. You can't go five minutes in Orgrimmar without hearing one of these sentiments.
But, as Soy of Auchindoun points out, Alliance players don't seem to have the same vocal pride in their faction as Horde do. I've played both sides, and the most I've heard Alliance players call the Horde is ugly and evil. Which admittedly aren't good things to be called, but that's more about the lore than a direct attack on the players behind the avatars. Several players noted that underpopulated races seem to have more pride than overpopulated ones -- you'll see more troll, dwarf and draenei pride than undead, night elf and human. Perhaps that's the reason the Horde feels the need to claim superiority -- since they're the underdog on most servers, they have to do something to keep from feeling like scrubs. Also, the Horde has less prettiness, sparsely populated cities, and are widely perceived as evil. With all that on our heads, it's no wonder we need Horde pride. Adversity has strengthened our spirit and caused us to band together.
I started out as a night elf and ended up as a troll, so I don't really have too much faction pride. I feel a little proud whenever a Horde guild gets a world first, and I do like being a rare class/race/gender combination, but eh ... there are as many annoying people on my side as on theirs. Or, as Borogove of Proudmoore says, "Alliance has more idiots, Horde has more jerks. Pick your poison."
Are you proud to be a member of the Alliance or the Horde? What about your race or class? Do you really hate the other faction? Who do you think has more to be proud of?

I know this is late but I just can't help myself. I'm seeing a trend here... A bunch of Alliance haters. Show me where the bad gnome touched you!
People who harbor angst against another player solely because they rolled a different faction are pitiful to me. Laughable. Pathetic.
Are you serious? Are you that entrenched in "lore" and a false sense of camaraderie with a group of fantastical pixels that you would write off half of the game? Do you honestly believe that there is more honor in playing one side over the other?
Get a life and L2 have fun. If you say you hate me because I play Alliance, I say I love you because you're the butt of my joke.
I've been /booted from PUGs in WC and RFD because I confessed that my main is a NE. It didn't phase me, but what kind of impression would that leave on someone new to the game?

I have a 66 on ally and have a 50 on the Horde so I pretty much have played both fastions a pretty long time and i have to aggree with most of the posters here ( Barrens chat sucks ass ) I hated lvling my warrior through that. On Alliance I've never had to go through that. Although pugs for Alliance also suck. So its it comes down to : Both factions have a downside. Horde does have more pride than Alliance. Alliance does ALOT more ganking and corpse capmping than the Horde does. Alliance is PVE racialed and Horde is PVP racialed. Both are very good factions, but you gotta deal with asshats on both sides.

I've got a theory.
By the time most 20+ people pick up WoW, they've spent years playing RPGs and CRPGs where 90% of your racial choices involve the stock fantasy races. The Horde races are a breath of fresh air to these folks. Play as a minotaur? Heck, yeah! Who wouldn't?
While at the same time, the younger, manga-style fantasy entrenched crowd are looking at those brooding, buffed-out Night elves (Drizzt!) and cutsey BESM gnomes and seeing something they can still identify with. Besides, the Horde is evil, right? Don't you want to be the hero? The guy that strikes the blow for truth, justice and... well, you get the idea.
Just a thought.

Ok I will comment here, I have leveled two characters to 70 on the alliance side and now I am on a new server leveling a horde character and I have to say, from my PERSONAL experience:
- Alliance camp & gank way the ^&@#$ more
- Alliance tend to complain in BG's
- Alliance Mages cuss at you when you ask for food
- Horde seem to gank less and as a result seem be more in tune with PvP
- Horde have been more helpful in general chats
- Horde mages just don't make food :P
All in all me and all of my local friends have re-rolled horde, and we all agree; we wasted our time with Alliance characters.

I enormously care about this whole Horde : Alliance thing NOT.
I am not overly proud of being Alliance. It's just I couldn't make the switch to Horde - my highest is lv40 there. If anything, it's just my preference in style, I guess.

Am I the only one who feels prouder playing Horde because of the lore?
(I have also been messed with and harrassed by FAR more Alliance characters than Horde characters, but I don't see that soliciting any 'pride'.)
