How to not kill Magtheridon
Only two guilds in the world have killed Magtheridon, and after reading a write-up of the fight, I'm not surprised.
Basically, as I understand it, there are five warlock/channelers with about a couple hundred thousand HP each. They hit for about 5000 on plate armor. They also do a shadowbolt volley for 3k, summon infernals who one-hit anyone besides a tank, and heal each other. When one of them dies, the others gain a increase of 33 percent damage and increase in casting speed. After two minutes of fighting the channelers, Magtheridon becomes active. He hits for about 700-900 on plate and cleaves. He also has two special abilities: a knockback that pushes everyone to the walls of the room, and a fire nova that ticks for 2.5-3000 damage every two seconds and lasts for ten seconds.
The "trick" to the fight is that there's five boxes in the room, each guarded by a warlock/channeler person. If five people click on the box and channel it at the same time, it stuns Magtheridon and lets you do 100 percent more damage to him. However, controlling the box deals 700-800 damage to its controllers, and then you can't control one again for 90 seconds.
My opinion: The hell? How can you even do this without bringing a seriously stacked raid? Do you have to enslave or banish all the infernals with six warlocks, or mind control the channelers with five priests? Nihilum and Death and Taxes are being quiet about their strategy, but this TOP SEKRIT missive from DNT raid chat shows them having a rough time clicking the boxes.
Do you have any idea of what it would take to beat Magtheridon? Theorycrafting is always welcome!

WoW... and that is not for World ofwarcraft either! Now I have not been to Mag yet, but I would like to know if you can MC the warlocks... Say MC 4 Kill 1. But considering that only 2 guilds have killed him, I am sure it is not that easy.
Most likely you need alot of Hybrid toons to switch between tanking, healing, and DPS.

I think it would be better if the guilds who down mag keep the details of how they did it to themselves so it's more impresive when you actualy do it.

Why is this even a topic? It seems like a waste of space. Magtheridon is being reviewed so he can be nerfed because He's too leet for everyone not in Nihilum and DNT AKA everyone that has families and jobs and school. But he's being nerfed, so lets start a topic about him after he's reviewed. Then it will be worth reading.

it just shows how utterly lame and disconnected from the playerbase the current raidboss design has become.

The fact that he has been downed by two guilds leads me to say I want a harder boss.
I miss the days of sleeper (EQ) where the unbeatable boss was out there, as a challenge and something to strive for.
Yes I understand that there are still bosses to be killed now... and there are rumors of the unbeatable bosses in the future. But for now we need something that just cannot be beaten (or atleast as close as we can get)
That's why I think Mag should remain as is (heck, twik him up)

I think they should make a casual server so all the whiny retards can get free epics that rain from the sky.
Bosses on the casual server could be beaten with several monkeys banging their keyboards.
Of course getting any progress on the casual server would not mean anything. There would be a casual r&d part of the forum though so little 12 year old Johnny brag about how he solo'd Illidan.
In short; leave the raiding to men.

Is luck a strategy, because that's what a lot of the new boss fights seem to boil down to.

I lol'd so hard at #7's comment.
Is that your definition of a man?? You seriously need to get laid.
Twinny Mar 5th 2007 7:09AM
@8 LOL you septic git. You are clearly far more manly then the rest of us...

I have to agree with #6.
I want there to always be some huge boss somewhere that I can't kill because I'm not uber enough. It's the only thing that keeps me playing.
I wanna get pwned by huge Jack Bauer summoning mid-sized warlock Chuck Norris's only to find that when I finally down him he spawns a Ditka that casts "wave of awesomeness" and everyone disintegrates.
There should always be a bigger, badder boss.

How many guilds have 25 people in full tier 4? As the guilds start getting better geared the encounters will become easier. Remember when BWL was impossible and overpowered. Bliz did kind of mess up releasing Naxx so late. I think tier 3 is still better then DS3 gear and not every guild has the resources to max out stacks of flasks and pots to overcome lack of gear.
Oriion Mar 5th 2007 4:48PM
So... why can D+T and Nihilum down him? Do they get access to items or spells we dont?
Kaylek Mar 6th 2007 8:49AM
Aaaaand the winner is Oriion @14.
QQ more everybody. You wanted smaller, harder raids and you now you got them. Did you expect Blizzard to give you easy epics?
robodex Mar 7th 2007 5:47PM
Part of the issue, though, is not that these encounters are really hard (they are,) but the current raid gear that they drop is such a small upgrade compared to nonraid gear that these bosses will never become easy like old raids. At this rate, going to do Karazhan in full T5 is not going to make it any easier, and bosses like they currently are are so hard that they require tons of consumables and perfect execution--and they always will.
There's a difference between appealing to casuals and appealing to people who want to raid. I want to raid, but I don't want to have to spend 4 hours a night before raid farming consumables so I can down a boss that drops shitty gear.
