WoW Moviewatch: Ice block ftw!
Oh, sure -- any mage who's been around the block a time or two knows just how useful the talent ice block can be. For a scant 21 points in the frost tree, ice block makes the mage immune to all damage for 10 seconds, on a 5 minute cooldown. And apparently, with good timing, it allows you to do things like Mikeystar did in this video.

As a paladin I am unimpressed.

As a rogue who's never played a mage, I have no idea what I was supposed to see beyond, 'Ooh pretty effects'

"nice of you to drop in, sir"

@2/MG Midget
You were supposed to see someone surviving a fall that would normally be lethal*20.

This is clearly an oversight that has been in place since release and now that players can have flying mounts, it's clear that something needs to be done.
Expect Iceblock to be nerfed in the coming patch. It will now have a five-second cast time in order to keep players from making use of it.
/sarcasm

When I started a BE paladin I was shocked that paladin bubble still protects from world damage (had not played my old alliance paladin in months).
But us druids get the nerf stick real fast, noone seems to mind such "larger" oversights.

I'd be more impressed if he blinked out of it. Bet when he tried making the vid he ice blocked too soon tho and still died after the ice block faded lol ^^

How dare they allow mages to have something like this...
(next blue msg) "Thank you for bringing this to our attention, IB was never intended to actually protect the mage against world damage, or any damage for that matter. It's actual intent was to stop the mage from attacking and allow the enemy a free chance to beat them down. This will be corrected in 2.0.11"

I suppose i could do the same thing with my BE Pally.
Morien Mar 4th 2007 5:45PM
as a mage, i'm entirely unimpressed, Slow Fall lasts longer and works better in that situation (boo hoo, it requires a light feather) and you can totally blink out of a fall as well.
RaydenUni Mar 4th 2007 5:27PM
Why doesn't he just use slow fall?
Induron Mar 4th 2007 6:53PM
As a warrior, I'm rather a fan of dismounting and charging. No damage, plus I can get to a mob without having to fight all the other mobs in between.

My sentiments exactly. Maybe he was out of light feathers, heh.
I remember dying from a fall not five minutes after I got my flying mount on my human warrior. I didn't even make it out of Shadowmoon Valley, when I thought it was a good idea to go exploring on my mount. I get a further bright idea when I decide to fly over the horde base out there...needless to say, the NPC's weren't impressed and promplty shot me out of the sky, dismounting me, of course, and sending me plunging to my death.

Druids do the same thing with flight form all the time, I'm not impressed.
Cort Mar 6th 2007 12:20AM
Meh. This was my tactic to get to MC without running down the chain for ages. :P

Wow... I was wondering why my video had so many hits.
In this video it was just a bit of fun showcasing how Iceblock can be used in a situation involving heights to negate the fall damage. It is quite useful in PvE to negate damage/dots/aggro as well as in PvP to protect yourself during an Arena Battle to outlast another party member's CC effect.
