Armory + Signature Generator = AWESOME!

Now that everyone you know is looking at your stats in the Armory anyway, isn't it time you showed off your character in whatever online forum you happen to take part in? From guild forums to public bulletin boards, there's always room for a fun, graphical signature. Just look at mine, above. It has my mean Draenei face, some lightning bolts, and even my awesomely hardcore (ha ha ha ha ha) stats.
Head on over to http://jebus.geek.nz/WoW/armory/ to get your very own signature image, which you can download to your desktop, then upload to your favorite forum hangout. You can get it in PvP and PvE flavors, in a variety of colors and backgrounds.
It's not perfect, as Skew was complaining to me earlier that the Shaman tag doesn't show stats meaningful to enhancement shammies. Any other stats it's not showing that you'd like to see?
What are you using as a signature in the forums now, and do you see a little tool like this to be as handy as I found it?

nerf signatures, i hate them :(
Halicante Mar 6th 2007 4:13PM
Mine gives a little sad gnome doing a palm face with "no data for that character" listed. heh. buggy armory, i assume.
Yours looks cool though.

mine is showing the stats for my heal gear, which I wear about 5% of the time.

Here's a link to my Sig and Avatar as generated with WoWRoster's SigGen.

That looks like a ton of fun! I tried doing mine but no data appeared in the images. Searching the Armory, I was given this message:
"It seems like the character you are trying to view hasn't been active for a while. Since the Armory only tracks active characters, this character needs to have been active recently for detailed character data to show up."
A little odd given that my warrior sees at least a few hours of gameplay on average per day ...
oh well, I bookmarked the linkie for future use. Really neat tool.

First of all,
this has been in place for years on german WoW Portals like buffed.de and others I think.
Though those Stats aren't updated live from your Armory it doesn't make really any sense not to do this yourself (go to http://www.churchsigngenerator.com/ if you want a funny signature and type in your name).
BUT:
I just looked a bit through the Armory code and found out that they are doing quite mutch XSL Transformations on the clientside while loading the whole Character Data from XML Files.
I still haven't figured out to what extend these XML Files really exist, but the whole frontend is done through XSL transforming a XML Doc to HTML (so nobody sees their code when clicking -> View Source, it's all in the runtime-DOM), so there should be a way to directly get those XML Datafiles with your stats in, create a ASP.NET Webpage that grabs that file and then Renders your Stats and Data into a Live Signature that will always show your actual stats from the armory, opposed to download the pic and the need to update it whenever you want to update your signature with new data.
The only difficulty is getting the XML, everything else is a straight forward walk in the .NET Park.

ok paul, you just made me make a fool of myself.
I just checked out the link and they do what I suggested :)
You just got it wrong, those Images there aren't meant to be stored somewhere and then uploaded somewhere else.
images don't update themselves magically :), their webserver will update your images with your current stats if you reference to the jebus.geek.nz server.
Downloading it would kill the whole idea :)

US only. Shame really, looks pretty neat. Show some love for the EU!
Halicante Mar 6th 2007 7:28PM
My guild name is too long for it. Goes right into the part containing the stats. Pity.
Laukidh Mar 6th 2007 7:45PM
"Character Data Awaiting Refresh"... not the most informative sig...
About what I expected, though, considering I still haven't seen the armory page load yet.

Boy this is quite awesome..

Seriously, roster shows whats in your bags / bank also, which Armory doesn't (and shouldn't) do.
D4 Mar 6th 2007 9:48PM
Ok. So if you can pull them into a web based generator like that.
What is stopping you from making an addon to WoW that scans the armory and draws their stats on the screen live in game? I know this is what people are whinging about, being able to see there stats, but imho I couldnt care and think it should be done.
Bunkai Mar 6th 2007 11:24PM
@12
WoWRoster has the ability to show INV, Bank, $$$;yes, but those are all optional items that can be turned off.
If you take a look at our guild roster, you can see that we do not have any of that shown.

Very very nifty contraption, but my main's guild name is too long and it jumbles into the stats part. Ah well, at least I got my RPGOutfitter sig!

Is it that hard to copy-paste an image in to an image editing tool and shove some text in...?
I'd be more impressed if it was a live signature that changed with armoury changes. Even then it's pretty damn ugly either way.
SandraPerenolde Mar 7th 2007 11:32AM
Sweet! Except, last time I logged out I was wearing my fishing gear.
Lol, pally with 158 str ftw!
Zuuler Mar 7th 2007 2:12PM
Start taking off your gear everytime you log out. That should really throw some people off.
Better yet, on your lvl 70 main, go farm a bunch of gray items and put those one everytime you log out, or maybe farm a bunch of +healing gear on a warlock or warrior, or +spell damage on a warrior or rogue.
I may end up doing this.
mortalwombat Mar 8th 2007 1:01PM
The option to change the displayed stats is sweet. The only thing I would like to see added is the option to use a custom portrait. It would be nice to have it insert the armory data on top of my own custom graphic.

You can also use RPGOutfitter for signatures and guild listings. It's much more detailed.
