Use the Armory to find WoW's worst player
I may have to retract my reward to Lynyrd-- Yougotserved (how appropriate) has found an interesting, fun, and fairly mean use for the Armory. He puts forth a challenge for WoW's new online catalog of players and their talents and armor: Find the worst player in the game, based on spec, professions and gear.Ouch, look at that spec and those greens. Oh my-- look at that neckpiece. Like I said, it's pretty mean. Yougotserved says it doesn't have to be level 70, but the really good ones are-- how you make it all the way to the end of the game without replacing all your gear at least once from the quests in Outland, I have no idea.
Is it wrong to use the Armory to make fun of players? Probably. But they shouldn't take it personally-- heck, that warrior in mostly greens has a Grand Marshal weapon (enchanted with Icy Weapon, but still), so he must be doing something right. So have at it-- dive into the Armory and see if you can find WoW's worst player. Maybe other players who made the same mistakes will learn something. And before you get all clever and start looking me up, I'll save you the time.

Could be possible that the guys in green without any Outland quests are the "Bought And Paid For" powerleveled type? Not sure, I haven't bothered to look. I used the Armory more to look at friends and my own personal stats, etc.

Am I the only person who thinks this is kinda rude?
It's mean to make fun of people you don't know~
right?
Calaf Mar 13th 2007 2:25PM
It would be more fun if the armory WORKED. I have been actively playing for weeks since the Armory came out yet it still says "It seems like the character you are trying to view hasn't been active for a while. Since the Armory only tracks active characters, this character needs to have been active recently for detailed character data to show up." on my charecter sheet. Wierder yet it RECORDED my level up but still no stats.

This guy has 5/5 into dual wield and 5/5 into 2 handers....WTF...there is SO much wrong with this spec!
I call him worst warrior ever

You are right to think this is very rude. It is rude, cruel, and smacks of an 8th grade level attempt to make oneself feel better by mocking others. And even better--the 'others' haven't even done anything to deserve the ridicule, other than they don't fit in because their gear is different. The beauty of WoW is that it allows people to mathematically quantify who is inferior. In junior high, people had to rely on things like height, waight, fashion and whatever stupid things kids find to pick on others about. The WoW armory has apparently now given these same jackasses from high school a new way to torment others.
In other words, this article is going to appeal to about 90% of WoW players. If you don't believe me, then turn on the Trade channel while in a capital city, and soak up the stupidity, insults and everything else that goes on.

It's pretty lame that savvy players take the time to ridicule people that don't take the game seriously.
Make fun of the fully geared 'pros' who still get owned in PvP. Now, THAT'S funny.

Wow you must've been the fat kid in high school. This post is about those who don't have enough common sense or logic to spec a character with some semblance of utility.
Take a look at the warrior I posted...When you put 5/5 into poleaxes and wield a sword...well...'nuff said

While it's interesting to see what choices people are making with their gear and talent specs, it doesn't provide us with the most interesting information.
"Why in the world did you do that?"
I'm sure there are some fascinating stories behind these strange choices.
Toolio Mar 13th 2007 2:46PM
I have mixed emotions. I'm for it because I find it interesting how someone can advance to 70 and not even partially understand how to utilize their ability. But I'm against it because like James said, what has this person truly done to warrant that kind of behavior?
If I see someone with a wacky build/gear, I'll just laugh and keep it to myself (and look for them ingame (:< but I won't publicize it.

harsh man harsh! could be any number of reasons why people do what they do...all will suck and all will rock at some point in time while playing.
I like using it to see how the whining alliance gankers are spec'd (you know the ones, the lvl 70's ganking lvl 30's for the pure fun of ganking in TM) ;-)

LOL...you CANNOT argue with that at all!

While this is not what I'd call nice, this isn't that mean. Come on. Anyone can come up to you in game and inspect your armor. This is just opens it up a bit.
And let's be honest, if you are level 70 and you have lvl 51 greens... unless your are proving a point, there is something wrong.
But, yes, I've been guilty of not replacing gear for ages. I don't run instances a lot and I am notoriously cheap in the AH, so I have been known to have a green on for 15 lvls or so.

Well, it's not like Hunters are prone to weakness when they don't spec right, I still maintain they are the easiest class to level by far. However, this is probably just a casual gamer who isn't steeped in the lore or mechanics and just plays to have fun... I have trouble myself remembering what that's like time to time...

I agree this is pretty lame. Seems like certain bloggers got one too many wedgies from the jocks in high school and this is their attempt to make up for it. Everyone has different play styles, some people make stupid choices with gear and spec...who cares.
chris.hawley Mar 13th 2007 2:54PM
LOL, yeah... making fun of people on a public website with lots of traffic is definitely not cool. It really does remind me of junior-high again.
Sure, I'll have a laugh or two if I see some noob with a horrible spec or bad items on the armory, but I really don't see a need to blab it all around and get all my friends to laugh at this guy behind his back. I just don't need that ego boost - sorry.
Zuuler Mar 13th 2007 2:55PM
I could care less one way or another. Gear is only half the story of how someone plays. Maybe their spec doesn't make sense to you, but they have found a way to make it work. Maybe they don't have the best gear, that doesn't mean they can't use strategy to still beat you in PVP.
Or maybe they don't like the idea of someone being able to check out their gear, so they put on a bunch of crap gear before they log their character out. That way the only time people can see your real gear is when you log in and put the good stuff back on.
I put a high lvl character in all gray items just for fun so that when something like this happens, people say wtf.

I agree with 2 and 5. This is a crap thread. Boo to Mike Schramm. It's because of things like this that RP servers are the place to play (and I don't even RP). The people there are usually more interested in having fun rather than in stat min/maxing and mocking other people who aren't specced or geared according to what the theorycraft wankers and their calculators say.
A little kid I know was reduced to tears because some a**holes were flaming him brutally in-game for his gear, and for the fact that he didn't know all the WoW chat acronyms. He's 10 years old FFS. Bear that in mind the next time you're flaming a noob - it might be a little kid who just wants to have some fun in an immersive fantasy MMO. It is for this reason that I think there needs to be some way to allow young folks to have their own servers - although I've no idea how Blizzard would screen to ensure that only kids were playing on it.
Play to have fun. To heck with the min/maxers.
Mike Schramm Mar 13th 2007 2:59PM
@5 James, that's pretty insightful. I've been trying to figure out why this is so interesting to players when it does seem so mean. But you're right-- most WoW players are at least a little snobby when it comes to specs and gear.
It's true-- we all have to remember the big picture: even if you're the best WoW player in the world, you still play WoW. :)
BoBoTheChimp Mar 13th 2007 3:05PM
Looks like my comment didnt go through. I agree with 15-17. Here's my toon to mock all you want. At the end of the day I go home to a gorgeous model to rub my shoulders while I play WoW ;)

Ok.. the Warrior? Venem? If you think this guy is a candidate for Worst Player, or even worth an honorable mention, you have no idea what's out there. Here... here's my analysis of Venem and his gear and spec.
- His gear is all Outland quest rewards, except the weapon. Nothing wrong with that if you're not in a dungeon/raiding guild. Some of his +hit pieces defy his spec, but he's clearly a PVPer and probably only did enough quests to get to 70, winding up with a smaller selection of +crit and +AP gear.
- His spec is actually very specialized, and he knew exactly what he wanted. This fella is after critical hits and he's nailed every single talent to enhance them, with a spare over in Tactical Mastery to allow him to switch stances and preserve enough rage to use a key ability.
Of course there are some questions I have for him, like "Hey... why do you only have a 17% crit chance? I'm a f'ing Protection warrior and I have a gear set that gets me over 25%." I'm sure he wasn't in Berserker stance at the time his stats were captured by the server (which was in mid combat, apparently), but that's still only 20%.
Chances are this guy is just aiming to replace everything he can with PvP rewards, so he doesn't care. He's got focus, and that earns him a mention in a post about "Worst WoW Player EVARZ!" apparently.
Heck, even I'm still in mostly quest greens and blues, that doesn't mean I suck, it just means I'm only 2 days /played into 70 and I haven't gotten all my ZOMG PHAT LEWTZ yet.
