...to down Hogger? This video suggests that a group of around 20 can do it. (And before you shake your head and start talking about how easy this is, do remember that Hogger is a level 11 elite -- just think about the miss rate a level one character would have to have.) And this is, yes, what World of Warcraft players do when they get bored -- oh, so bored!

I play horde, and have never played an alliance character past lvl 3. So I don't understand the hatred for hogger that I hear about.
Lvl 11 elite, no big deal, I soloed a lvl 15 elite with a lvl 13 character. So why is a lvl 11 elite is such a big deal?

You make me so glad I play alliance.
1 vs 11 = 1100% difference in level
11 vs 13 = 15% difference in level
Also consider level 1s have almost NO class skills.
Also read the OP's reasons as to why level 1s beating up a level 11 elite is cool.
Also if you've never had to complete the hogger quest for every alt you have, you'll never understand.
Also....horde sux.

It's a big deal cuz people joke about it. Hogger's the first elite you have to take down as alliance.

Did you read the article? These aren't level 13's attacking an elite 2 levels higher than them. These are level 1's attacking a level 11 elite. The miss rate against an enemy 10 levels higher than you is pretty high. Throw in the fact that he's an elite, and its worse--and the attacks that do land are not going to do much damage.
I suspect though you wrote in just to drop the fact that you soloed an elite 2 levels higher than you. Did you want a cookie for that or something?

One time when our realm went down (in the middle of a raid no less) my guild all rolled alts on a differnt server for a 40-man Hogger run. Needless to say, good times were had by all.

If you had actually read what I wrote, you would see that 4 answered my question.
My question had nothing to do with lvl 1's attacking a lvl 11. My question had to do with why Hogger is such a big deal to alliance players.
4 answered what I asked. Hes the first elite alliance players have to take on, and they've made a joke out of him, much like Mankirk's wife for horde players.
Its people like 3 and 5 who make me glad I play horde with a guild of competent people who can at least read a paragraph and comprehend the questions that are asked instead of skimming over it, jumping to conclusions, and making a complete ass out of themselves for all to see.
The reason I asked the question, and I alluded to this before, was that I see a lot of forum posts about Hogger, and about him being invincible, like 1 hinted to in his post. Until now, all the information I had on Hogger was he was a lvl 11 elite, which to me doesn't seem like something invincible. Seems to me a lvl 11, or a small group of lvl 11's, should be able to take him out. Which is why I wanted to know the story behind him.

And I don't think a large group of lvl 1's taking down an 11 elite is all that great either. If you throw enough bodies at him of course he will eventually go down.
Show me a lvl 1 5-man of Hogger and then I will be impressed.

It's just humorous, nothing else really. Try to imagine this as a 40-man raid and you'll see why it's funny and a big deal. There's some good videos out there though I forget which guild was the first to do it...

This story is the short version about my initial encounter with Hogger. There are no embellishments and this account is totally factual. Be glad you rolled Horde (smart move) so you don't have to deal with this beast. Well, actually he's a humanoid, but you get the point.
For those of you who don't know Hogger, let me set the stage:
First of all, you have to achieve hated status w/ Gnolls in order to even start this quest. I farmed rep for 7 days before I could even click on the Wanted: Hogger sign. This quest isn't for everyone. But then again, I'm not everyone.
But what am I? A L70 NE hunter. A killer. A Knight. I'm a rogue for justice. But I'm not a rogue. I'm a L70 hunter. A modern-day Robin Hood. With gigantic, enormous blue
ears.
The humans had enough of Hogger's hostilities; eating babies, stealing apples from that one lady, spray painting Stormwind Castle with his gang of thuggish ruggish gnolls. And word around Azeroth was that the Humans had offered a cash reward for Hogger's demise. Psh! My reward is that justice is served! Keep your silly money.
"Keep your silly money," I said to them. "Because what I need money can't buy. I need information about The Hogger."
"Go visit the SI:7 informants near Old Town. He'll tell you everything you need for 7s. He's off thattaway," they pointed.
I consider myself a true student of Azeroth. When I accepted the quest to end the atrocities committed by this brutish gnoll, I knew that I had to have the upper hand to emerge victorious. I traveled far and wide, day and night, seeking knowledge and wisdom on how to defeat this wretched beast. From Booty Bay to Winterspring. From Stormwind to Ironforge (I took the tram).
I was given many suggestions:
"Open with Aimed Shot, then trap him, hit him w/ a multishot, then Scattershot him, blast him w/ an arcane shot, then have your pet Intimidate him, then concussive shot him. He might be dead by then, but if not, be prepared to Feign Death. Make sure all your trinkets and pots are up before you fight him."
"Kite him to Stormwind where hopefully the guards will come to your aide!"
"I saw him eat Princess and Bellygrub for breakfast!"
"Ask if Death & Taxes will fight by your side!"
"Dude.. WTH? Are you retarded? You're L70. He's L11 (elite)."
True. Hogger is elite. I am merely a Knight. I am not a Knight (elite). The mental strain was like a rake in my brain. Always the calm and cool one, I found myself stirred and jittery as the day of reckoning drew nearererer.
The day of the attack I said a prayer to the NE god(s) and asked for protection. They must have heard me because my concentration was broken with a protection buff. And a concentration buff. And a prayer buff. The irony was as thick as Hogger's hide.
The morning of I mounted up and rode through the forest. I was paying close attention to the scenery... A bubbling brook. Fuzzy bunnies frolicking in the grass. Some pretty flowers that I can't pick up and smell because I'm an enchanter/engineer. I had to take it all in... It might be the last time I ever see these things. Lost in a rainbow haze, my mount gracefully jumped across a lovely clear stream and landed on the other side. Hogger stand there with his back to me, almost as if to say, "Hey. This is my back."
But how did I not see him on my map? Is he so (elite) to evade my tracking skills? (As it turned out I was tracking Gnolls, not Humanoids. Common hunter mistake. lawlz newb)
His gnollish gnostrils caught wind of my scent and he turned just as I was dismounting. I didn't have time to swap out my riding gear before I was considered "In Combat". My +crit/+AP trinkets were replaced w/ a carrot on a stick and riding crop! (Yeah, they stack for me.) and my epic boots were replaced w/ L20 squishy greens with spurs. I was screwed.
He charged, but I thought fast. I immediately dropped a frost trap to inhibit his attack. I turned and ran the other way to distance myself from the assailant.
RESISTED
Oh crap. Now what? Scattershot!
PARRY
I tried to summon my pet, but before I could even let out the whistle he was ground pounding me. "OMG THINK! THINK DAMN YOU!" I thought to myself as I watched my hit points steadily decline. I hopped to my feet and wingclipped the bastard. HIT!
I distanced myself again so that I could hit him with a concussive shot.
DODGED
I had time for one shot before he was within my dead zone. I instantly hit Arcane shot and critted him for 3k.
HOGGER BECOMES ENRAGED
The next few moments are but a blur of gnashing yellow teeth (dude needs to floss) and the clank of his rusty weapon piercing my armor. I knew my time had come. BUT WAIT! I can use the bread and butter of the Hunter's survival skills! FEIGN DEATH!
RESISTED
Damnit. Okay, I'm seriously gonna' die now. As I lay there, pretending to be dead, then shortly thereafter actually dead, contemplating the afterlife, corpse being dry-humped on by a rabid dog-beast-thing, I thought of all those who have come before me in such futile attempts at murdering this fiend. I thought of those who have yet to encounter his wrath. Those who will be as ambitious as I was. Those stupid, stupid noobs.
I died a painful death that day, but thanks to Blizzard and the Spirit Healer I can live on and tell my story. For those of you who don't know about The Hogger, I challenge you to pretend he doesn't exist. Just keep going on about your life and don't bother getting uberpwned. There's no amount of gold or glory worth getting killed over.
And because I couldn't afford the enormous repair bill, I wait naked by the banks of Darnassus dancing for copper. I hate you, Hogger. I HATE YOU!

And you are as bad as they are because you failed to understand my second comment as well as my first.
Obviously 3 could not have read 4's comment, I only mentioned 4 because he understood what I was asking and responded with the answer I was looking for.
I only mentioned killing an elite 2 lvls above me as an example that killing an elite at the same lvl, or even a few lvls higher than you, should not be a dificult task. Yet everyone always says this lvl 11 elite is hard.
AND MY ORIGINAL QUESTION WAS "WHAT MAKES HIM SO HARD?"
I didn't know it was a joke, I've never played alliance and I never plan on it. Seriously, did all of you flunk out of highschool english or what? Because so many people fail to understand exactly what I am saying. 4 understood it, why didn't 3, or 5, or 13?
Whats even worse about 13's post is he didn't even read 3 or 5's post correctly. They didn't make fun of me for killing an elite 2 lvls higher than me, they tried to make fun of me because they thought I didn't understand whats so great about a bunch of lvl 1's killing a lvl 11 elite.
Seriously, read and comprehend, simple grade school english lessons. I don't see how so many people can be so stupid.
Of course, you did roll alliance....so that probably answers that question.

Zuuler, has it dawned on you that maybe, just maybe, if 3 people cannot understanding what the hell you are saying, that, and I know this may sound crazy, that it could be the writer and not the readers?
And I must admit, I am enjoying your ongoing theme of how Horde players are somehow superior to Alliance. The real beauty of it all is that the more you write, the less I am inclined to believe you.

L2phrase your questions better.
Saying a level 11 elite is "no big deal" while singing your own praises for beating another common mob implies you don't understand game mechanics.
Now I do feel like poking fun at the fact that you actually believe killing an elite 2 levels above you is even remotely significant.
I guess it might be to the horde. /shrug
