5000g is just too much for an epic flying mount
I've hit 70. I bought my flying mount (and spend way too much time exploring the air around Outland). I'm even attuned for Karazhan, and my guild is working through it. And yet I feel no pressure at all to raise that 5000g for an epic mount.Like Moonfalin, I'm pretty "meh" about the whole thing. Yes, flying around at high speed would be cool, but is it really necessary? I'm the highest level, and I'm keyed-- where do I need to go so fast? I know that some of my guildies farmed for cash and have already picked theirs up, but I'm not bothering with it-- I've already earned about 1000g just from my normal questing and instance running, so I assume I'll hit 5000g at some point, and I'll just get there when I get there.
The exception to this, of course, is the nether drake mounts that are coming. Those I really want, either from PvP (although the PvP one is hard-- as a resto shaman, I'm really terrible in the arenas) or PvE, and I'll be willing to farm whatever I need to to get one of those. So what about you-- did you farm your way up to 5000g quick (it wasn't that hard when BC first came out), or are you taking your time for a reward that just doesn't seem that great?

Those of you questioning whether an epic mount is worth it reveal your lack of knowledge in this game. Do you have any idea how much faster and how easy it is to farm with an epic? What's hilarious is you are the same people who complain about farming and how time consuming it is. In my guild, those with Epics don't even bother rolling on ore in instances any more...why bother? You can farm ore/herbs so fast now with the epic. On top of that, you no longer have to be bothered with those silly flight paths. You can now take direct routes to whichever zone you wish and arrive there much faster than the flight paths.
WELL worth it.

My problem is not so much about the price of epic flying mounts, I agree they should require players to go out of their way to get one etc, but rather with normal flying mounts being so slow. the 60% speed increase brings you back to your old slow-poke lv40 mount except that it flies, while the increase provided by the epic flying one is eons ahead. Could they not find some kind of balance, like leave flying mounts be at the bare minimum a viable side-grade to your epic ground mount (ie. 100% speed increase)?

i want to point out that you said a resto shammy is horrible in arena and i would like to say bullshit, with ur 1 second heals its nearly impossible to kill you unless u have your whole team dpsing the shammy while ur getting ur ass kicked cuz the other guy or guys is raping you, so no fuckin way shammy pwns arena, besides pally, and their gay bubble, they need to nerf that shit

another holy priest here. epic flying mount, dumb, 5000g dumb, raiding - more important. guild - more important. and in response to #6, i rolled a holy priest because i want to play a holy priest and if i wanted to roll a lock i would've, so take your 'roll another class to farm' antics and shove em.

Seems like some of you are trying to convince everyone that an epic flying mount is not worth it, and some of you are trying to convince those people that it is worth it. Then some of you are saying its impossible to farm that kind of money.
Its still just a game. If they want to get everywhere slower, and spend more time farming, then let them. If someone else wants to spend a lot of gold on an epic mount, and beat you to all the mining/herbalism nodes, then thats their choice.
And then theres those that are "too busy" raiding to farm the money. If you want an epic so bad, take a break fro raiding and farm the gold for the epic. Believe it or not, WoW will still be there in 2 weeks.

I share the same views at the op. I've been stuck at around 1k gold since I bought my regular flying mount. I've done all of the quests I could find, so all I can do is farm now. It just doesn't seem worth it. All of the elementals are constantly farmed for primals on my server, and unless you play at some crazy hour, you can't really get to them. I do want a netherdrake, so I'll wait for one of those, but otherwise, I just don't care.

I do not yet have an opinion on whether the 5000g is worth it or not. In any case, I figure I'll get one when and if I get one. I'm not gonna farm outrageously to raise the cash. I always wonder about the bogus issue, though, of it being the training that costs so much, not the mount. It doesn't matter really, now does it? You need the training to use the mount. Who cares if one costs less than the other? Red herring.

@24, it's only 2.3 times faster, not 5
Consider.
Regular flying mount is +60% of walking speed = 160% speed
Epic flying amount is +280% of walking speed = 380% speed
380/160 is about 2.3 times as fast. Still significant, especially when you consider flight paths are about 400% speed, but take tortuously circuitous routes.

I worked my ass off for my flying mount. I am the MT in my guild so doing it in as war prot was a real pain. I made most of my money from alchemy. As a transmute specialist I would farm up all the mats for primal mights and sell those on AH. Since I'm a specialist I would get a bonus about on an average of once a week.
The main reason for the mount was so I didn't have to waste so much time farming up herbs for elixirs, flasks and pots. The amount of time I spend farming herbs now will pay back the time spent on farming primals. I use to spend at least 45 min farming an area of all the herbs on a single full pass. Now its 15 min.
