Breakfast topic: What have you learned from the Armory?

We've got some great tools for guilds. We've got generated signatures, lots of Legolasses (and Legolads), some liars revealed, and even the worst players (that last one is from an official Mike Schramm Troll Post (TM)(C)).
So in the two weeks since it was introduced, what have you learned from the Armory? Have you figured out something new by checking out someone else's spec, or learned something about your guild from theirs? Have you gotten a good tip on an item you can't live without, or found one that you later asked a guildie about? Have you checked out a "famous" WoW player, or checked how many players have the same name that you do?
Blizzard has put one of the most comprehensive tools online for any MMORPG. It's only been around for a few weeks, and it's only in Beta, so we're apt to see more functionality arise for it yet. But here in the beginning, just what are you using it for?

I am enjoying that I don't have to wonder how my friends on other realms in old guilds are doing in their progress in the end-game instances. I can just look at what they are wearing.

I used it to look up my guild, look at a few players, then thats been it. All the information available in the armory is also available by me asking people in my guild a question.
About the only thing I did learn was that I was not the only one who picked up exalted with Tranquillian. Most BE's end up with exalted. But getting exalted with them is not very hard at all. Just a matter of completing quests in Ghostlands.

I love the armory. I have done pretty much everything you listed. My former main shares her name with about 100 other people around all the other servers. while my current main shares his name with only my other characters that I have parked for 1 reason or another.
I also checked out Leeroy, I told myself I wouldn't, but I had to.
Yesterday my friend and I were doing quests in Tanaris, and we killed a skulled rogue. We wanted to find out why he was so easy, he was wearing level 40 greens at lvl 61. :D

I really like the armory. Helps me look at the progress of my guild mates and possibly help them. One of my good friends just started playing and I was able to see his gear and see if I can make him anything useful (hes a priest who can only wear cloth and I'm a tailor so it worked out). The only thing about it is people can use it for the wrong reasons (per the post from the other day about the worst wow player). The only thing I wish I could I see on it would be to see what the actual player looks like (actually show off your gear) and maybe what's in the inventory or what patterns/recipes you have.

I've learned that a lot of people on forums around the web tend to exaggerate a bit when discussing their stats or abilities.
One shaman was saying how he was doing 3500 lightning bolt crits almost 50% of the time. Reality check, the guy is wearing mostly quest gear with a few blues from 5-man instances. His unbuffed stats were +450 damage and a crit% of 23% (w/talents).
Originally I just wanted to find out how I could make my character better. Maybe get some ideas for better gear. What I'm realizing though, is that most people have worse gear than mine. Some may sacrifice certain stats (i.e. Int, Stam) to have the best +dmg gear possible, but that doesn't mean it's better than mine.

I looked up the specs of all the shamans in D&T and Nihilum.
There's one enhancement shaman in Nil. The rest in both guilds are resto :-(

I used it to find a Scryers Blacksmith so I could get some arcane resistance gear for fighting against the Curator.

I haven't used it much, but I did look up one of the braggarts in my guild only to find I do much more +damage and have a better talent build than he does :) that made me happy.

Someone at school (who is known as a compulsive liar) was bragging one day that he had cleared Karazhan with his guild and that he was "epic'd out in tier 5". Of course, I knew he was lying, but just for fun, I asked him his character name and pulled up his armory page on my laptop. Level 70, wearing outlands greens, and not even neutral with Violet Eye. His response? "Oh, it must not have updated yet!" The page said it was last updated that day.

I've learnt that I don't even have to be online for gold sellers to get my char's name and spam me with their bullshit.

I actually learned a better build than my full frost build by checking out an old guildie who was a pretty good mage and knew alot about the class. He was arcane/fire so I tried out a 35 arcane/26 frost build and I actually do much more damage now and love the build.

There was a mage in EOTS who was blinking twice in a row and sprinting, so I decided to see what trinket he had to sprint. He had none. Damn cheaters.
Laukidh Mar 15th 2007 11:51AM
I looked up THE Leeroy, Kralnor and Alamo. (and then posted links in wowwiki).
Leeroy is in all blues and purplz. I'm jealous.
/not wearing the devout shoulders :(

Trinket for sprinting? Never heard of Swiftness Potion?

I've learned that my main's name is unique on all of Europe's servers (and probably the rest of the world, too, since it's really nice)
Bunkai Mar 15th 2007 12:26PM
I've learned that there are a lot of people and guilds that do not use CharacterProfiler and WoWRoster on their own guild websites to track the progress of their guild members.
Shame Shame
That's been around for years.

@11 If you're going that deep into arcane, why skip Mind Mastery, which is arguably the best talent in the tree?
Groghe Mar 15th 2007 1:51PM
I used to use the sig generator that was based off armory info, but it appears to have died. Does anybody know of another one?
Snukums Mar 15th 2007 7:20PM
I mostly used it to check out friends and not be asking them constantly about their gear/rep. Also some famous players (PA's Gabe, PVP's Kurtz, etc).
But that was just when it came out, right now I'm doing the signature thingie, and that thing that we saw yesterday about guild statistics, both of which I'm encouraging their use in my guild
