An Outland gear guide for feral druids
Kaliban's Class Loot Lists (a.k.a. WoW Loot) does a pretty good job at providing overall views at gear for different classes, but I've never seen anything as detailed as this incredible list of Burning Crusade feral drood gear. They've got what looks like every piece for every gear slot, all organized according to its benefit to feral druids. And in addition to the Bear tanking gear list, whoever put this together (I heard about it from outintospace) has also provided a gear list for "Cat durids" (they're for fite)-- both for sustained DPS and burst DPS. This is a lot of work-- even if there was some kind of script involved in an API, this is a lot of information to put together and organize, and it could be the only gear guide you'll ever need as a feral druid in Outland.
It's got all the way up to Tier 5, too, which makes this even more complete than Kaliban's List. Tier 6 isn't in there, but of course that's because we're just now hearing about what it will be. There you go, feral druids-- now you know exactly what gear you want and where it is. Get to tanking!
Update: And to go along with the Hunter Wiki from a few days ago, someone has started a Druid Wiki as well. Thanks to commenter Metaphyzxx for the link!

The WoWWiki tier gear comparison chart for resto druids shows the tier3 gear being better then the tier 4 5 gear. Can someone confirm this? give me some insight?
The armor is better, buffs are better, etc etc. thx.

So basically burst dps under the cat form link should just say in bold caps, NEED ROLL ON ROGUE GEAR.
Yeah that will go over well.

I like these charts, but where's the Moonkin dps charts?
I swear, there is such animosity towards Moonkin from both the game designers and the players.

Also visit http://druid.wikispaces.com for more droood luv. great info there.
@1 - be careful when you make comparisons like that - tier 3 is nine pieces and tier 4 & 5 are five pieces each
@2 - don't blame druids, blame blizzard's itemization. while there are a number of good feral DPS leather quest rewards (str, agi, stam), the vast majority of DPS leather instance drops are 'typical' rogue stats (agi, stam, AP, crit). if memory serves correctly, there is ONE feral DPS leather drop in all of Karazhan (off trash mobs). believe me, i'd rather there were more druid-specific items. in the meantime, get used to rolling against druids

There are feral druids who didn't switch to an alt after the last patch? Instant cast flight form is the only reason to play a druid instead of a pally if you want to be part warrior/part healer, and it's the only reason to play a druid instead of a rogue if you want to DPS in cat form.

It's a great list but picking items purely based on their ranking on it is a poor way to assemble a set. The tanking list in particular is ridiculously biased towards massive amounts of dodge at the expense of armor, hit points, and defense/resilience (yes, druid tanks need to be uncrittable too.)
There are a lot of stats in WoW whose value is relative to your other stats. For example, crit rating is more valuable the more AP you have. Therefore ranking systems can never provide more than a starting point for choosing your gear.
That being said, I really like that list and it's been quite helpful for finding gear that I want.

I like Kaliban's site, but he misses the mark in his comments regarding hybrid druid play stating there is "little need" for that spec in TBC. Based on my experience in instances/raids/heroics, the challenges encountered as well as the gear available for hybrids (+ all stats, heck, take a look at Moonglade..) favors a hybrid feral/resto style of play. My spec falls into this category and it's only served to enhance my TBC experience.

@6 - Go troll somewhere else. Druids are fine.
Freehugz Mar 22nd 2007 4:29PM
Yes #6 I'm going to drop my level 70 druid with all its sexy druid gear and go roll a level 1 palidin.
Actually I'm going to go reroll the overpowered class of the month every time a patch comes out... Then everyone will like me!

Wow, stapleboy, and people say I troll.

@ J-Bob - Shucks, guess I shouldn't have commented on a PvE focused thread. Honestly though, from a raiding perspective what incentive do groups have to include more than one feral druid? If we're not along for LotP, we're taking a spot that could be providing more DPS than a kitty is capable of.
And for PvP, the bear-damage nerfs take us back to the pre-BC days... you can -almost- kill something, and then you're pretty good at running away.
If you're working on epic feral drood gear, you are far more patient than I :)

@ Mike - Heh, what can I say, bored at work and still mourning my druid's less-awesome-ness :) Leveling annoys me and, yeah Freehugz, I went back to a 15 rogue that I'd nearly deleted when I realized the only thing I liked about my druid anymore was cat form. I don't have the time to raid but I love world PvP so I was edging by with decent blues and well-timed shifts into bear form for a lucky Mangle crit! Not so much anymore.
Glad to provoke some thought even if it's "I'm gonna get this guy good!" I can't decide if this is better than carefully wording a post and wondering if anyone's seen it. So, Mike, how do you balance the two? Haha...
J-bob Mar 22nd 2007 5:14PM
Stapleboy -
PVP is rough, but I'm a carebear and I don't care ;)
As for raids - other classes provide more pure DPS, but we've got utility for different encounters (need more heals? ok! need more tanking? ok! need more DPS? ok!) and more flexibility for when it hits the fan (tank down or healer down).
The flexibility is especially important when learning new fights/content. Everything isn't as 'easy' with 'free epix' as the Raid and Dungeon forums make it out to be.
Also, many guilds aren't running the optimum theorycrafted raid groups for max DPS/Heals/efficiency. Real life is just more complicated than that.

@11 - Pre-TBC days is tanking without mangle and lacerate...! Strange to see someone complaining about druid's in TBC - I guess some people are never happy.
@13 - agree - flexibility is key to my enjoyment of druid-hood. but flexibility based on spec and choice of gear. being expected to perform non-specced roles is one of my pet hates tbh. I have been asked to off-tank when specced boomkin and to heal when specced feral. Sure I can dps AND tank as feral, dps AND heal as balance - but if i'm wearing boomkin gear and specced balance, I can't drop into bear in the middle of a fight and hope to survive for more than 2 seconds.
has anyone found a good resto loot list for TBC?
