Brainstorming some new world events

I don't know about you guys, but I love watching Azeroth get destroyed. Highlord Kruul, the kind of weak Scourge Invasion, the end of Beta event on the BC test realms where giant warlocks attacked Stormwind -- they were all awesome. Even player-created events, like massive world PVP battles or the "ZOMBIE ATTACK" on an RP server last summer, can be a nice break from the normal routine of WoW.
So I agree with Captastic's call for new world events post-Burning Crusade. Azeroth is so deserted these days, it would be nice to have a major event to draw people back to their homelands. Maybe Arthas could do something to remind us that he's not just sitting around up in Northrend. Or there could be a world event the first time anyone on your particular server kills Lady Vashj or Kael'Thas. Other suggestions include:
- An Ahn'Qiraj type of event that ends up opening new home cities for gnomes and trolls
- Onyxia emerges from her cave and goes on a rampage
- The Buring Legion or the Illidari could actually attack Shattrath, a very well-defended city that never sees any fighting.
- And suddenly, fel reavers! Hundreds of them!
Can you think of any interesting world events, either in Outland or Azeroth?

How about something with the lost King of Stormwind? Maybe an event wher Stormwind gets overthrown by the Defilas and Theremore becomes the new human capital city? To balance, maybe a horde city gets overtaken?

I would like to se an event that changes something we already have, like the partial destruction of Stormwind, maybe Booty Bay partially sinking; a kind of 'tree blight' in Ashenvale or Terrokar. Maybe even the cleanup of a section of Gnomeregan that makes it a safe capital for the Gnomes.

I've wondered this, Valentines day and Easter is all well and great, but they are gimmicky.
We need more events happening that people can take part in.
Dunno about suggestions though :P

How about just making attacking the main citys worth something, like a week long buff for the entire horde/alliance, and even put gaurds out front that the lower levels can kill, so it's not just end gamers who can do it. Or give them Trebuchets, such as in WC2. Make it take 3 engineers to build a Trebu' and 5 people to shoot it. Make it aimable.. Maybe i'm hoping for too much.
I would like to see more "war" in Warcraft. Of course i'm on a PVE server, so I don't see it that often.

I like the Shattrath event Idea. It would include everyone!
Just like honor hold could work since its always under attack.
I would like to see an event like Doom Lord Kazzak goes on a rampage through outland. Or leads the shadowmoon valley warriors on a crusade to shattrath.
It would be nice to see some more story oriented events. Like the blood elfs attacking the NE areas. or something more about the draenai. I personally think the BE's raiding the NE towns.. or an event with teh DLK.

The possibilities are endless as far as world events are concerned. So many ideas have already been given. The main problem I see is how do you manage the process of world events through so many servers. Developer run world events are stuck on a few servers at most, like the ones mentioned. They went in the right direction with world events with AQ. It was a turn-in type event, with a gate opening.
I just think its not fair some servers to have real time live gm events and such, because most servers get left out. And you have to think about time zones..what if an event happens and I'm at work..I and many others have to miss out. Events like AQ that everyone can be involoved in at anytime - for a period of time, is the right step to take.
All in all, im getting pretty bored of raiding at the moment. My guild has kara down, maulgar and working on gruul with the new hotfix. SSC and such are coming soon, but its getting repetitive, and very boring. I'd really love to see some new stuff to do while I'm not raiding. Farming is getting pretty old.

I was going to suggest things similar to #3. I just want to see events that permanently change the world in some way.
I also agree with #4, it'd be really cool to see all those tanks/war machines you see around major cities actually do something.

I agree with the holiday comment. Every year its the same thing...Holly gets kidnapped by the same elves, the same orphan needs to be saved..etc. etc. I think holiday events especially should be changed up every year. As it is now I don't even bother with half of them anymore. The first year we played wow I had fun figuring out and finishing all the holiday quests, as the rewards were new and exciting...Now its just, meh.

i would like to see an all out war between allaince and horde like maby u can join up so there 100 people on the same time and u have to charge across a field and take the enemys base sorta like WSG or AV but just a big plain field in WSG but instead of letting you res every 30 sec you get 5 reses and then ur out meaning lowbies would get out fast and the best would show up and the skill would show i think this should be availble in barkets of 5 instead of ten and make it availible to the lowbies like starting out at 15-19 then 20-24 then 25-29 and so on yes ther would be twink having fun and yes i know raids haave them capped off at 40 so maby just 40 people at the same time.

@6 Seriously, invest 2g and buys some damn punctuation. I can hardly read that crap. Although, the one period at the end is cute...

How about something like the Corrupted Blood incident?
Only with quests and a race to stop all of Azeroth from contracting the plague. Could be interesting.
Jamus Mar 22nd 2007 3:46PM
I like the gnome/troll city idea. At least give the little guys "city in training" area where they are starting to rebuild.
Scruffy Mar 22nd 2007 2:43PM
@8 You, too?!
I wasn't around WoW when it happened but it does sound cool. Maybe a virus from the Burning Legion that converts players to their side as a kick off for making BL a playable 3rd faction in 3.0 or whatever.
Of course, there'd be some mightily pissed off people if they were converted permanently. Maybe repeatable farm quests to mass produce antidotes but, say, when 3.0 rolls out, allow players the choice to remain converted (permanently) or not. With 3.0, keep the antidote around, as well as the virus, to let players purify BL players (debuff :P) and vice versa.

I'd definitely love to see Gnomer given back to the player gnomes in some way. Alliance has been running that place for years, I think the troggs, leper gnomes, and Thermaplugg are dead. If not give over the entire city, then like #3/Hank said, give over some of the non-instanced parts, and turn Gnomer into a Stockades-style dungeon, with it mainly being a Trogg dungeon instead.
On that same idea, do give some permanent effects from these dungeons. Let an instance finally be beaten for good. I pity the Gnomes at least. They have a tiny 20*20 foot room for themselves, and that's it. Let VanCleef finally blast his way out of that mountain. Don't know too much about the Horde side, but I'm sure a way could be made to give the Trolls their own city. Maybe drop a new island off the Eastern coast of Durotar that has a troll city, with perhaps a long bridge, or even a boat to get access to it.
That's the kind of world events I'd love to see.

How about a drought haha no more drinks!
Hodgins Mar 26th 2007 9:09AM
It would be cool if something happens that draws the lvl 60+ back to Azeroth.
Something like a cleansing of Duskwood, or maybe a siege on Ironforge where the main door gets shut with trolls or more scourge outside.
Jeff Mar 22nd 2007 2:31PM
How about a Scourge revenge, I like the dark them that affected SW and the surrounding. There was a little pressure in the air, when elite squeletons spawned in town lol :) I liked the ambience which was darker than usual.
And why there's no rain in Outlands ? I know its floating continent but still... It was a feature that worked for the old WoW pre BC, and no weather effect in Outlands :(

As plausible goes...
- the Burning Legion launches a counterattack on Azeroth (circumventing the portal altogether)
- An evacuation of civilians from Outland (the planet is falling apart - who would let them stay)
- The elemental lords stop their internal squabbles and realizing that Azeroth has a good chance of ending them for good, decide to attack en masse with the hope of wiping out intelligent life (possibly combined with the burning legion, above) (Hi, I'm Schmoozondrius, Nathrezim for recruiting and we'd like YOU to join the burning crusade, Mister Fire Lord/Lava Annihilator/whatever)
- Arthas attacks the minor human/elven/ogre states in a bid to rebuild the scourge's armies. (BTW this would be a great major patch, even introduce High Elves and Ogres/Half Ogres as playable minor races - since they already are members of the Alliance/Horde).
- A Horde Civil War. Seriously - why on earth would the Orcs, Trolls and Tauren put up with the Undead and Blood elves dishonorable behavior once hostilities have shifted away from the Night Elves/Humans - Mulgore and Durotan are as defensible as Dun Morogh and moreso than Elwynn and the horde don't *NEED* allies that work against their interest (like researching a new scourge, summoning demons, etc).
