Magtheridon hotfixed

Hot on the heels of Gruul's hotfix, Magtheridon has been adjusted (read: nerfed) as well:
The Magtheridon encounter has been rebalanced to be somewhat easier and should now better keep to proper raid progression.
Reprorts have it that although Mags himself hits harder now, the adds have less HP (120k less, according to one poster). Magtheridon was significantly harder than Gruul, who he was in theory meant to be on par with; hopefully this, as well as the Grull fixes, help make beginning BC raiding a little easier. I mean, I'm all for having to work for your epics, but I think most of you will agree that the beginning of the new endgame was a little too much like a brick wall.
I'm pretty far from fighting Mags myself. Apparently he has five adds, who as in most add-based fights represent a significant part of the difficulty of the encounter, so nerfing them should go a long ways. However, based on the run-down over at BossKillers, it still looks like a pretty involved fight. Come to think of it, doesn't Kel'idan the Breaker, who is positioned directly above Magtheridon in the Blood Furnace, have five adds himself? That fight's a cakewalk, of course, but the parallelism is interesting.

You say you're pretty far from fighting Mag, what really is needed of an individual to be ready to join a raid party to fight him? Level 70 I know is the first thing but are we also talking all purple gear, or maybe there is more to it. Myself at level 67 am looking forward to doing these high level raids but I have no idea how to ready myself for them, so any suggestions would be great.

At least pre-hotfix, Mags was thought of as Serpentshrine Lair-level, putting him in the second tier of raids. You'd pretty much need to be geared out in Karazhan-type stuff to make a serious attempt.
Karazhan is probably going to be your first stop for raiding at 70, and you don't need too much in the way of gear there -- my random dungeon/quest blues I'd collected on the way to 70 served me just fine.

While you can enter any of the end game raids once you hit 70 (and are keyed), you will have a significantly easier time progressing if you spend a bit of time at 70 to obtain the end game blues, socket and enchant them (unless of course you have lots of T3 which for many classes is still really strong).
Even having cleared Karazhan and Downed King Mulgar, most of our raid is still in end game blues (since half of Karazhan loot is purple sidegrades, not upgrades). If we weren't - I doubt we would have got as far, and once we get more epics into the raid that 27% of Gruul we have left should go too.
However, like I said, if you want to seriously take him down before having everyone in purples, you need good gems and enchants and be willing to pot it up.
