Alternate faction mounts at 40

No, it's not easy, but it is possible now that reputation rewards for quests don't degrade with level. However, questing alone doesn't seem to be enough to get a mount by 40, as explained by goffchick on wow_ladies. The real trick seems to be timing it so you can run (pre-60, it's more likely to be corpse-hop) to as many lunar festival elders as possible. (Yes, for each elder you speak with, you gain 75 reputation for all horde or all alliance factions, depending on your faction, of course.) Anyone else out here who's managed to snag a cross-faction mount at or around level 40? I'd be curious to hear how difficult it was.

I managed to get my UD mount at lvl 46 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v320/TallBoy101/46mount.jpg) from simply doing all of the quests I could find that came from NPC that belong to the Undercity faction. I probably could have got it at a lower level if I had focused on just that instead of leveling.

actually, if u take a look at my armory rep, i could go for the ram, but unlike the nelf in the story, i want a tiger, yes im a warlock and i get a firey mount.. but hey he wont take up inventory space anyways, so ill do rep grinding for darnassus, and since ill get the riding skill for my mount at 40 for free, it only a matter of putting in 10g for the ram/tiger/(maybe a black or pinto horsy)

don't you mean cross-RACE mount? cross-faction mount is like a Gnome getting a Kodo

@2. not sure about anyone else but what I see from your rep with IF you still need 24444 more rep until you can get a ram =/
thats alot of rep to get in 4 levels, could still probably pull it off but it would slow your leveling alot

That's strange... really. My Dranei just reached 40, and it may just be because I'm a questing fiend, but I was honored in all factions before leaving the main island with the Dranei, and was exalted in all factions before becomming 40. I have my litteral pick of mounts, thank goodness. I DESPISE that dang elephant thing.

I'm a Draenai Shaman, and I picked up my tiger mount at lvl 42.
Honestly, it wasn't difficult. I'd already done Ashenvale as part of my normal leveling, so I was already well into revered with the night elves. Went back and did all of the starting quests in the NE area, and by the time I hit Auberdine I only had to do a couple of quests there to ding exalted. A few hours of killing low level stuff was all it took.
Love the tiger. Did not love the elly. YMMV.

My friend was exalted with IF and SW at 41 (only reason it wasn't 40 is cause i pulled him away from his questing :p)
he had no problems at all.

My human warrior has three mounts, a horse, a cat and a ram. The cat I got in my early forties and the ram in my early fifties. I'm 3k rep from exalted with Gnomergan (not that I can use their mounts) and I'm over halfway to exalted with Exodar. I haven't done the Lunar Festival or repeat Runecloth quests at sixt two.
How did I do it? I quested in every Alliance and contested zone, from the beginning. Even the Stormwind faction quests helped. Something to remember is that every quest you do for one of the Alliance factions gives you a small amount of rep for the other Alliance factions as well. I would be in even better shape if I did the Alliance instance quests.
Do every Alliance/Horde quest your character can get your hands on, even the quests for your own race, and you'll get spillover to the other races in your faction. I was honored with Exodar even before BC came out for that reason.

Getting a horse mount as a night elf was quite straight-forward. I just did every quest a human gave me. I had my horse the moment I hit 40. It's just about doing all the quests, no matter how irritating. Other than that it was very little trouble. I did none of the seasonal quests, the usual ones are more than enough. Hadn't even done SM before I got my horse mount.

As a lvl 40 Draenei shaman, I started questing at the Teldrassil starting area, and hit Exalted halfway into Darkshore. Took me 3.5 hours.

I cannot fathom why anyone would hate the Elekk: I've actually rerolled Draenei just to get one. Funny thing is, I'm revered with Stormwind and Darnassus (and barely Revered with Ironforge) just from regular levelling, so if I wanted I could get a cat or horse.
But I don't. Draenei + Elekk = pure goodness.

I've a great desire for my Orc hunter to ride a Hawkstrider at 40. While I've done most of the Silvermoon quests (am exalted with Tranquillen) but have found SM reputation hard to come by since then. Any advice?

I'm planning on getting a tiger for my draenei; I managed to get exalted by my early 30s. It wasn't hard at all: I just went to Teldrassil (all the way to the lvl 1 starting area) and Darkshore in my early 20s and did all the NE quests there, finished up with a few in Ashenvale. I started doing this just after they changed the rep system so that even grey quests give you the full amount of rep. It wasn't terribly time consuming, and actually highly gratifying to go back and decimate that stupid furbolg cave, lol.
I was wondering about Blood Elf reputation as well; since they've only got the two Blood Elf zones, perhaps it's not possible to get to exalted through blood elf quests alone? There is spill-over rep (doing quests for other horde factions will raise your Silvermoon rep, even though your chat window doesn't report that). If you want to earn as much spill-over rep as possible, as quickly as possible, without forcing your character to level, I'd go back to one (or all) of the horde starting areas.
I've never seen a conclusive breakdown of spill-over rep. Does anyone know exactly how it works? Do some factions give you more spill-over rep with one faction than others? (example: perhaps Undercity quests give you more Silvermoon rep than Orc rep?)
RogueJedi86 Mar 24th 2007 4:44AM
No, rep works by giving something like 1/4 of the rep of the main one you get. If you do a quest and get 100 Undercity rep, you'll also get 25 rep for Orcs, Trolls, Tauren, and Blood Elves. The same applies for the Alliance.
In fact, rep spillover seems to be the only way to get any real Gnome rep after you've done the Gnomer quests(before you're up to runecloth donations). There are no Gnome quest hubs that I know of. By contrast, Stormwind rep is one of the easiest to get for Alliance I think. I got it before I got Exalted with IF, and I'm a Dwarf.
Tim Engelbart Mar 24th 2007 5:14AM
I did it. It's not even hard at all. All I did with my draenei mage was doing all quests on Azuremyst and Bloodmyst. Due to the spillover, that should get you well into friendly with Darnassus.
Then do the quests in Teldrassil, Darkshore and Ashenvale and you're set :)
Baranokc Mar 24th 2007 8:18AM
Typical ... all the alliance cannon fodder talking about how easy it is.
Cosmina Mar 24th 2007 11:26AM
Since spillover rep gains were buffed so heavily not long ago it is now ridiculously easy to get other-racial mounts. I got my Horse mount on my Draenei Shaman in my early 40s. Why did i get a Horse? Elekk don't fit through a lot of doors.
Also as soon as i hit 60 i was only about 100 runecloth away from hitting exalted with Darnassus, and i've had an epic Cat ever since. Why did i get a Cat? Elekk don't fit through some doors.
I would have got a Ram too, but my Ironforge rep was far too low for me to bother with it. The Darnassus and Stormwind rep came really easily with the quests i was doing while leveling up.
meingaree Mar 24th 2007 12:43PM
well... i dont have to have ram/tiger at 40, i mean i could just level to 40, getting my spillover from quest, and with my 90s firy mount it would be easier to do al those lowbie quest in dun morogh/loch modan etc, just mount up and head t quest areas, kill, complete quest and repeat, im guessing i could do it faster that way. same for darnassus, i mean the normal lvl 40 cat looks bland, but epic cat looks very nice.
Joene Mar 24th 2007 3:03PM
When I started my dreanei shaman, I knew I wanted a tiger at lvl 40. I realy dont like those Elekks.
What I did was doing all the quests in Azyremyst and Bloodmyst. Now you are honored with every faction, thanks to the cross faction reputation you get. After that, I went to Teldrassil and did all the level 1-10 quests, followed by Darkshore and Ashenvale. I also did some quests in the other areas, which also offer me cross faction rep. Furthermore, truning in wool and silk cloth gave me 700 rep in total, and doing the Blackphatom deep quests also offer a lot of reputation. At level 30, I was full exalted with Darnassus and now I enjoy my Nightsaber :)
Im also revered with every other faction, nearly exalted with Stormwind and Exodar. Its realy easy to do.
Khanmora Mar 24th 2007 6:32PM
I did the start zones for all of the areas except Exodar (as it wasn't implemented when I started my rogue) and by 32 was exalted with SW and Darnassus and was exalted with IF by 40.
I have all three mounts and a mod that randomly chooses which one I ride. I'm revered with both Exodar and the gnomes and could get exalted with them if I want but humans aren't allowed to ride the mechanochickens and the modeling on the elekks is horrid, missing chunks of flesh ftl :(
