Ask WoW Insider: Why are you overpowered?
It's time once again for our weekly edition of Ask WoW Insider, wherein we publish your questions and solicit your peers' feedback. This week's question comes from Marshall, who wants you all to introspect and fess up about why your class is overpowered: "I always see people in the comments (here and on the forums) talking about about how other classes are overpowered. What I want to know is, what class do you play, and why is your class overpowered? It goes without saying that I'm looking for honest answers here :)"Dig deep, self-examine and admit it: what makes your class overpowered?
Without you, Ask WoW Insider is nothing. We desperately await your questions at ask AT wowinsider DOT com.

70 Mage. When I was full Frost I had about 800+ SD. and when I hit that frozen target for 3.5k + Ice lance crit of 2k+. I felt over powered.
As arcane frost now. I still feel over powered. just more squishy.

Interesting question to raise; Marshall.
I've been a Priest man myself, for many moons- and I can frankly say we are -not- overpowered.
But... if we were overpowered, it'd be because we heal better than everyone else.. oh.. wait... nevermind.
How about, because we're the PRIMARY healers in the game! Well.. although Pallies and Druids are less squishy and can heal more effectively...
Well we do great damage with Shadowform and shadow spells! There ya go. We do damage...
Not as much as those other DPS classes.. but hey! Damage is damage, right?
My alt is a warlock, and I'll tell you- we are OVERPOWERED. This array of pets at my disposal to make wiping out my opponent that much easier. Not to mention the DoTs; and all the crippling effects I can imbue on an enemy with a click of the mouse.
Definitely overpowered. But take away my pet and I'm toast.
But hey- nice to look at it from this perspective.

My Hunter can get up to about 1900 RAP with Trueshot turned on, I use a shot rotation which maximizes the use of my 3 main DPS shots and keeps them all on cooldown, and yet good Mages and Warlocks still put me to shame. BUFF HUNTERS

HUNTERS ARE NO OVERPOWERED

Prot warrior ftl?
Yeah, we're definitely overpowered, right? ;)

My Warlock is overpowered, because I can drain, DoT, fear, bolt, and use my pet all day long, until you're dead. And if you do manage to kill me, I can use my Soul Stone to finish the job. Did I mention I'm an engineer?
My Hunter is overpowered, because I can consistently take 4-5 mobs at a time, and feign death if anything goes wrong. I can also down elites with little effort. Tracking makes quests easier, because I always know where to find the mobs that I need simply by looking at my minimap.
My Warrior, however, is not at all overpowered. Get to work on that, Blizzard!

I first levelled a Pally. Then I switched to a Warlock.
And hot DAMN is my Warlock overpowered. With my Pally, I can melee and heal and... that's about it. But with my Warlock?! I got DoTs, I got AoE, I got CC, I can heal myself, heck; I can even resurrect!!
And if that's not enough, I've got frickin' PETS who can tank, CC, or pummel a mage into tears...
It's not the individual powers of the Warlock that are overpowered... It's how insanely versatile this class is. Whenever I solo with my Warlock, I remember how damn hard and long it was to do the same thing with a Pally... and I weep.

Paladins, Warlocks and Rogues are not overpowered...leave my classes alone. Why would you ask this question? Blizz management can hear the word "n3rf" even at a whisper.

i love my warlock, but honeslty i dont think he is overpowered, maybe it's because he is my first ever character, so i dont know how the other classes are.
but i do happen to be on top in damage in BG, not way top, but around there. Maybe ill see that "overpowerdness" in the 40's. But for now im leveling at a nice constant rate.
Kata Mar 23rd 2007 7:05PM
I play a warlock, a demo warlock to be percise. With my felguard out, I can DoT up a mob, let him have his way with it while I go off to DoT up more mobs and fear them away from my squishy self. OOM? No problem, as I'll just life tap, Drain Health, or just use a healthstone to replace my reserve mana pool. If I get into a bit of trouble, all I have to do is make sure I have a soulstone up and I'm okay.

Considering the months and months of "Nerf 'lock" posts that popped up on the forums, I find it hard to believe that Blizzard would start up the nerf's just because of this discussion.
We are a very powerful class. I honestly think that our overpoweredness (is that even a word?) is Blizzard's way of apoligizing to all the old warlocks who played before the buff.

Brian, your talking about hunters when fire mages can instant pyro for 5k+?
the_ninja_kid Mar 23rd 2007 7:34PM
well the apparent 6k damage i see in 10sec doesnt seem to underpowerd anyway

I'm not overpowered anymore, seeing that bears arent what they used to be, and the crit damage nerf that afected my dps form hurt as well. But if im in a group with two shammys, My attack power ends up around 2.5k with a 37% crit chance.
Marshall Mar 23rd 2007 9:53PM
OK, so since I asked the question, I should answer it too I suppose.
My main is a hunter, and the area I think they are overpowered in is burst damage out of the gate. Aimed Shot/Arcane Shot will get me around ~3.2k as an opener if I crit both of them. Then ice trap and repeat. They're overpowered vs. melee, probably not so much vs. casters. But I'm not really a PVP guy, so it's hard to say.
8. Paladins, Warlocks and Rogues are not overpowered...leave my classes alone. Why would you ask this question? Blizz management can hear the word "n3rf" even at a whisper.
Cuz I'm a troublemaker ;)
Dunno about pallys and rogues, but I do have a (low level) lock that I've been messing around with, and I am amazed at how ez mode they are when you're low level soloing quests. If that easyness scales up to the cap, well, I'd say they are overpowered for sure!

I think a lot of the overpowered stuff comes from some classes are really one trick ponies and others are jack of all trades. Th jack of all trades are more versatile and seem to be more powerful cause they have a ton of tricks up their sleeves.
Any class in the right hands can be overpowered. All depends the skill level of the person playing and the situation. Some classes are easier than others to play (Locks & pallys) but even then true mastery of any class takes time and skill.

Well, I began with a priest. I wanted to heal! And I did. At 60 I was holy and loving it. Then, TBC came out and my effectiveness.... eh, it died. I was still Shadow so I started collecting Mage gear at 70...
I've got a lot of the Mage's Incanter set and... hot damn I've got a crit rate of 30%. Considering the fact I can regen my own mana (and health) I usually am #1 on the DPS and healing charts.
With me off-healing like this... the main healer can suck and we aren't usually 100% screwed. I can even tank a bit with my Power Word: Shield.
I never lose duels and I kill in PVE... I am overpowered.
Oh, and don't even get me started on my Shaman. With a guildy Pally... we 2 manned most of Gnomer at 34...

Class: Demonology Spec'd Warlock (67)
I normally don't feel overpowered with my Warlock, but when I solo quests that seem to require two people or more I feel a bit so, and that's mostly due to Fear and my Felguard's aggro/threat management (DoTing really tops this off well, too.) It used to be more so when he took 30% damage, it was like damage dropped down 10 levels in severity instantly.
Kata (#10) hits the nail on the head, but I'll toss in how I see it all the same. Overall it comes down to being able to spread out my damage either by DoT or by AoE, and shifting off threat easily (Soulshatter really helps out here, pets are fine too.) If I hit the right pacing I can lifetap and ride right above no mana and be fine for some time, only needing a quick bit of food every so often (spore pods keep me set and solve the problem of finding/buying food/drink.)
The only time I feel woefully weak is when I'm stunned. In PvP that's almost always kiss of death it seems, but seeing as I mostly play PvE this isn't a big problem.
