WoW Moviewatch: Paladinypse Now
Paladin Regis of Sunstrider (EU) offers us this sample of a paladin's abilities at level 70. And while you may believe that Scarlet Monastery isn't the most challenging place to test your skills, I'm not certain which classes, other than the paladin, have the ability to take out the whole instance at once, even at level 70. Warriors could equal them in damage mitigation, but don't have the same AoE options. And mages could certainly best paladins at the AoE game, but probably couldn't take that much of a beating.
Am I wrong? You're welcome to prove it with a video of your own!

this can be easily done with a warlock using voidwalker and seed of corruption on 3 or 4 mobs ;)

it would be cooler if he said how much gold he made in those 2min

Really, really cool! Definitely something to try when my Pally and Lock hit 70. Probably really good farming as well. Imagine how long it would take to loot all those corpses!

This is actually a viable method for grinding as well. It's all the Paladin ProtAOE grind. While grinding, you can handle anywhere from 3-10 mobs of your level or lower @ the same time. It makes kill quests go MUCH faster.
Just go to the Pally forums and for AOE protection to learn how to do it, and what the spec is...

"I'm not certain which classes, other than the paladin, have the ability to take out the whole instance at once, even at level 70"
you've got to be kidding. I can solo each arm in under 30 mins with a 70 holy priest. My other half can do similar with a 70 frost mage.

Oooooooooooooo my mistake. You literally meant "all at once". Sheesh, I'll shut up and go heal something :D

i would pullthe whol cath area to mograine at 60, so pulling the entire wing at 70 seems fairly reasonable.
a warlock could do this as well -- and propably also a top notch frost mage.

Anybody know what song is playing?

As a level 70 arcane/fire Mage (in other words, worst possible AoE of any spec) I can clear the Armory in 3 pulls. I imagine that an Elementalist Mage (Fire/Frost hybrid) *could* do the entire place in one pull, but it would be a rare player with the skill and patience to figure it out.
ajpally Mar 24th 2007 3:32PM
Difference is he did this in one pull. I have a 70 lock and there is no way I could ever do it in one pull.
This is why pallys rock the house!
Luciean Mar 24th 2007 3:50PM
heh i do this all the time on my pally. Protection FTW.
Dunadain Mar 24th 2007 7:06PM
Actualy Mages can pull this off, all you nedd to do is Ice Lance pull as you run, have the Arathi Basin trinket, be deep frost and be a good mage. Oh and P.S if you spell steal the "Flame Sheild" buff from the Scarlet Mage's you will get a buff that deals 75 Dmg every 3secs... + All your +spell damage. I had it ticking for 1k with trinkets up!

Yeah I'm a prot lolladin and AoE grinding rocks.
Basically it's all about tanking loads of damage and doing damage back through Holy Shield, Redoubt Blocks and Blessing of Sanctuary (using a Shield Spike to add to it).
In addition, since you're being attacked by so many swings your Reckoning talent (10% chance to make your next 4 swings generate an extra attack in the next 7 seconds) is always active so you're hitting twice every swing. Add a Seal of Light in an environment like SM cathedral like this guy and you have a pretty constant renew ticking away on you just from your swings.
Finally, Consecrate is the Paladin AoE everyone knows about. Formerly a holy talent, now a base skill.
Whenever I see feeble holy paladins consecrate grinding I can't help but laugh. Prot ftw ;) Guardians Ho!!!

Prot-Paladins FTW! The Petrified Lichen Guard shield that he uses is one of the best mid-level shields that you can get in the Outlands. It has a chance to deal poison damage and can stack 5 times. It's easy to get (Honored with Sporeggar), and it's near awesome for Prot-pally AOE grinding.

Difference between a Caster doing this and a Pally is the casters have less margin for errors and must resort to potting or CC in order to stay alive.
The beauty of having Plate is the damage mitigation, CC ability can only control only so many.
I think a mage can do this but has to be extremely powerful and agile to survive without getting killed while AOEing.
Zuuler Mar 27th 2007 9:31AM
A mage or a lock may be able to AoE the mobs to death faster, but I doubt a lock or mage would be able to make the run to the end of the instance without dieing. All that plate is what allowed the pally to make that run.
Next, if you watch, the pally healed himself several times, something a lock and a mage would need healthstones and pots to do, making it very dificult for them to survive.
This pally simply had time on his side, something a lock or a mage would not have.
That being said, I'd like to see a mage or a lock do this. Would be much more impressive than the pally doing this.
