Blizz: No world chests in Outlands
This was definitely one of those things I never noticed until I was explicitly told it ... but there are no world chests in Outlands. Tseric gave several reasons for this change: developers decided to use more rare spawns instead, teleport and speed hackers were getting gold from chests, and they wanted to make getting loot more of an interactive experience (killing rare spawns rather than just finding chests.) The teleport/speed hackers are probably the biggest issue, since in the above thread, a lot of people report seeing some REALLY fast dwarves in Burning Steppes.
While I understand Blizz's desire to keep economic inflation under control, I'll kind of miss finding a random chest in the middle of nowhere and fighting through mobs to get it. Sure, it usually contained nothing more than a couple of pieces of food, some pots and maybe a green "of the whale" item, but it was always fun to have a surprise. And occasionally you'd get really nice things -- two blues from chests helped me finance my first-ever mount. Rare spawns are nice but often take group to kill, making it hard for the solo adventurer to enjoy them as much as chests.
Have you missed finding chests in Outlands? What about rare spawns -- do they fill the void? And have you seen a lot of dwarven hackers in your parts?

I've never needed a group to kill a rare spawn. The only rare spawns that have ever given me trouble are the one warlock in eastern Stromgarde, and I don't even consider her a rare spawns as she respawned faster than most mobs. All she dropped was 5 silver too.
Rare spawns are supposed to have better than average loot, but I have never gotten good loot from a rare spawn. Most of the time it doesn't even sell well.

I hate that the rare spawns are generally, if not all, elites. Used to be a nice surprise to be running through a zone and come across a rare that you could take down yourself. Now you have to find a group, track the rare, and then deal with the rolling of the loot even though it was all your idea in the first place.

Give me back my chests. I admit I'm casual but I have not seen one of these rare spawns yet and I'm 67 now. Though I haven't really gone looking except once. Plus the feeling of finding a blue in a chest is wonderful, like winning the lottery. I guess atleast guess I need to go win the lottery to find out.

Actually, i haven't found 1 single rare spawn since BC started. I thought they had just taken out both. If they are replacing rare spawns with chest, they need to up the rate of them or something.
The only thing about rare spawns and chest are.. a rare spawn drops at least a green every time you kill it (or did with me) with potential for more, but a chest had a huge percentage that didn't even have a green in it, just food and stuff like the post said.

I miss the chests, but I understand and accept their reasoning. Besides, crappy green gear drops like crazy now from everything.
However, where the hell are these rare spawns? I've only seen ONE. And that's the chimera in Netherstorm, which needs a full party to kill. That's really more of a Mini World Boss, like a Kazzak for a 5-man PUG.

If ever you venture into an Outland cave and feel a pang of remorse for the loss of your precious treasure chests, console yourself with this:

I recommend sticking a couple of earrings and a cheese wedge into it if you're looking for an authentic experience.

I've never needed a group to kill a rare spawn.
Most of the rare spawns in Outland (because that's what the post is about) are elites -- and tough elites, at that. Well-geared, it took five of us to kill the elite fire giant Kraator in Shadowmoon Valley and we wiped on the first attempt. Dropped a random pair of blue leather bracers.

This sucks for Dwarves.

Frankly, I miss the chests. As a solo casual, I could work to get the chests. Might have taken a few pulls, but I could get them. The elite rare spawns are just not worth the repair bills for what they drop.

Its a shame that the actions of gold-sellers are impacting so severely the games we play.
... and rare spawns are not the answer either, as can be seen in other games. To fend off the gold-sellers, other games have been forced to make all drops from rare spawns BoP.

"This sucks for Dwarves."
Aye.

Never seen a speed hack anywhere but a BG, but I don't really care. I love killin' to get my loot. Don't get me wrong. My rogue appreciates the occasional locked chest to pick and find goodies in, but she also likes killing ogres too. The second day of BC, my buddy and I went exploring and found an rare in Nagrad (can't remember the ogre's name that drops the blue necklaces). Anyhow, we dropped him like a sack o' potatoes (actually, we almost died) and got our first rare-spawn blue from BC. Been addicted to killing the jerk rares ever since. Of course, we also made the mistake of taking on the big eye-ball by ourselves as well...Didn't work out as well for us... Still fun though.

OOPS. Sorry. Meant to say the Big Eye-Ball in Shadowmoon.

Hehe.. I just had this conversation with a guildie the other night. Someone found a chest in the base game and I was in Outlands, close to dinging 70, wondering why I haven't seen a chest in ages...
Ding! Epiphany.

The rare spawns are too hard, IMO. Kraator almost kicked my group's collective ass. And all we got was a crappy pair of mail shadow resist boots that I haven't been able to, and probably will never, sell.
Oh well, shards FTW.
