Breakfast topic: Famous and infamous
In Azeroth, not everyone gets their 15 minutes of fame. For every Leeroy, Sebudai or Xl, there's a thousand nameless players toiling away in mid-level guilds, not doing anything funny or stupid enough to get noticed by the wider WoW community. But there are lesser levels of fame and infamy. You can be one of the top PVPers on your server, or lead the most successful guild, or be well-known for being funny, friendly and generous. Or, on the other hand, you can be known as a ninja, a jerk, or an e-sexual predator (in extreme cases.)
I'm not very well-known on my server. I am occasionally viciously sarcastic in general chat and tend to get the OMG girl thing in Vent-dependent PUGs, but that's about it. Only a few people outside my guild know I write for a blog, and that's definitely not a way to get e-famous anyway -- it leads to more "Hey, you should write about how THIS INSTANCE SUCKS" than "Wow, I read your article and it was great!" I'm happy being just another nobody in-game, because being an undercover reporter is a pretty cool secret identity to have.
Are you famous or infamous on your server? If you're not, who is and why?

No where near famous on any of my characters. But longarms seems to get alot of hate on my server (Earthen Ring). Probably because he wouldn't let anyone be top PvP before the switch to a currency system for little over a year.

When I first got to OLs, I was running the PVP fort quest and kept getting camped. I vented in gen chat and was instantly flamed by a few people. To my surprise two or three people immediately came to my defense, specifically using my name in their post.
I don't consider myself to be well known on the server, but it was nice to know there are at least a few people I've left a good impression on.
Most recently I was grinding for mats in Nagrand when a guildie spammed gen chat for a Halaa PVP group. I whispered him and asked to join, but he said that the raid leader couldn't inv because I had them on ignore. Turns out she was one of the people who decided to flame me in HP for my stupid PVP rant. And she was pissed at me for ignoring her so I never got an invite.

I learn for the best on my server how to win Av. and that whit a behind attak when rest are figthing. so we end win the Av, but i dint stop ther, the hole week i join Av and we won evry one of them.
well we lost thos at nigth time when i dint play them, but the point is, efter the first 3 av wins. people start to know me and it was a hell lot easy to win them.
but whit full rep in av i left them, only to bee forgote when crosrealm cam.
but that was my 15 min of fame ( or 6day)

On my old server (Illidan) there was this warrior named Thewarior who was honestly the bunt of every joke in gen chat. The jokes just never ended because not only was he a horrible warrior (or so I'm told) he would constantly defend himself and make stupid comments in gen chat thus putting more fuel on the fire. Link to his Armory profile:

Ever since the demise of the LFG channel, I find that it is a lot more difficult to keep up with the social atmosphere of my server (Stormscale).
I do remember the name of one person who made an idiot of themselves in LFG chat almost daily. His/her name was Brelm, and he/she always seemed to be arguing over LFG chat in the stereotypical internet nerd way.
I am not famous on my server, although I am probably KoS for some horde players for my PvP-related actions.

@3 Huh?
Bradley Nash Mar 26th 2007 9:46AM
@7 - agreed.
I'm not famous....yet. I play on Spirestone. My highest level toon is a 46 Warlock. I'm pretty good with strategy and really enjoy BG's, but my skill at the game in general is still not great. I want to be well known, but it will take a while.
As for infamous on my server... I don't know of any but I'm trying to make somebody infamous. If you play Horde on Spirestone, don't group with Zoraxe (he's an UD Priest) because he will ninja items. And on top of that, he charged us, his party, 1g for the staff needed to summon the first boss in Ulda. That is retarded.

Fenris will always have Bdragon.
Shiro Mar 26th 2007 9:55AM
From Kargath here. We've got George as our majorly known guy. :)
I originally came from Medivh though, known primarily for being the carebeariest of carebear communities. We opened the AQ gates first, mostly due to major funneling efforts between Alliance and Horde to get the supplies to the sides that needed them. We even organized Mind Control brigades to allow the Horde to access the Stockades in Stormwind to farm cloth. :P

Forgot to mention the other infamous person on Medivh. There was a lovely guy named Axedragon who I met in Westfall while leveling my second character. He was running a friend through the Messenger quest with his 60 l33tness, and decided to stick around and chain kill the messenger for the better part of an hour.
My friends and I began calling him the A$$dragon and it stuck for the guilds I was a part of. Much later on someone started a thread about him on our realm forums and it turned out that half the server absolutely hated the guy.
To his credit he tried to make things right after that, but the nickname still stuck. He ended up being an OK guy, he just always seemed to come off as an a$$ to people the first time they met him.

I don't know that there are any famous people on Lothar, but there was a guy on Draenor "Armani" who was always posting in trade trying to sell random tailored clothes at high prices, promising never to be oversold (yes, oversold...offering to raise his price if you ever find anything posted for more expensive than his) and also amusing ads about being passed up by a girl or for a raid or whatever because your opponent was wearing Armani. Some people loved him, some people hated him. I found him annoying, but I miss him now.
robodex Mar 26th 2007 10:21AM
Hakkar has a lot of its own infamous people, but they're mostly forum trolls.
Berith Mar 26th 2007 12:18PM
Earlier someone posted something about Laughing Skull having no room for fame because of Leeroy Jenkins, sadly its true. When my brother and I were in Terrokar Forest after hearing Leeroy was there from a guildie, we actually found him, we chased him away from the caravan, he was level 64-67 at the time, I hardly remember and we tried to kill him, as soon as I hit the FRAPS button, my computer froze, Leeroy was with a hunter and they both killed my brother /cry
Luckily for me they somehow didnt notice me lol
The moral of this story is..... Laughing Skull has NO room for fame lol
Joshua Ochs Mar 26th 2007 10:42AM
Well, I am known by a few friends simply as "The King of Aggro".
Otherwise just minding my own business. :)
Seraph Mar 26th 2007 10:38AM
It seems like no matter which server I join, absolutely nothing interesting is ever going on.
Garithos and Scarlet Crusade FTL?
Well, that's not quite true. I met a pretty cool mage on Scarlet Crusade-A, Kamwynna, who's apparently made a pretty good impression on everybody. But she's like, 65 now.
Auriea Mar 26th 2007 11:20AM
On Emerald Dream (A) we have The Corinthian. He is an overall jerk and is not happy unless he has the center of attention. I know that the Penny Arcade guys drew a short strip about him as we play in the same battlegroup, unfortunately I cannot find it.
Avonturier Mar 26th 2007 11:32AM
At Aerie Peak EU there is Gutrot the troll warrior who is leveling from 1 to 70 completely naked, currently he's at lvl 63 beating up mobs with his bare hands in the outlands.

And at Al'Akir EU there is Horde rogue Klauz who has started a 'guns for hire' service. He can be hired by Alliance as well as Horde to kill Alliance players, as proof he puts a movie of the killing online :) But even before this, he was allready well known for his pvp antics.

Playing on Dark Iron here, I'd have to say the entire Penny Arcade Alliance. I think we have had more server crashing raids then any other guild group in WoW. Also, there was this horde druid name furiouspanda who camped nesingwary's for about 2 months, and whenever another 60 came he would run away. Pretty much everyone knew him.

@18
Thats when you recruit a lock to give you underwater breathing, swim up the stream and take him by surprise.
I find that warlocks in general are infamous. Example: This post will more than likely generate a "Nerf Locks" post from someone who doesn't know enough about their own class to kill an AFK player.
