New realms? No. Recommended realms? Yes!

Looking for new realms? Well, it seems like you're going to have to keep waiting. Just over a week ago, Tseric told us that there are currently no plans to open any new realms. And on Monday Drysc followed up on that by suggesting that players may want to consider joining one of the following relatively underpopulated realms: Velen, Terokkar, Rivendare, Shu'halo, and The Underbog. I, for one, am not sure you can really replicate the "new realm experience" on a low population realm -- there's just something fun about being on a brand new realm where everyone is just starting out, and typing /who 60 and not seeing a single player. And while it's certainly in Blizzard's best interest not to have to maintain underpopulated ghost realms, telling us to reroll on these realms just isn't the same as rolling out new servers. (No... I'm not a chronic reroller -- why do you ask?!)

Hrm. Blizzard is addressing a population issue. Adding servers (says the IT guy) isn't just a matter of slapping a few Dell boxes in a corner.
You just want that "new car" smell.

At this point, if there are overpopulated realms then there should be more free transfers to the ghost town realms offered. Hell, I'm on Norgannon and the population there seems singularly unpleasant, so I'd take a transfer to an underpopulated realm in a heartbeat.

/sigh My main is on The Underbog. When they threatened to break up Illidan thats the server I moved to. Well at least I dragged a few friends along for the ride.

I've gotta admit, I've got little sympathy for these people who are always complaining about new realms not opening. It's not Blizzard's job to provide you with your own server so you can be the first to 60. If you want that experience, go buy Oblivion; it's an excellent game, and nobody is going to beat you to 30.
I've been on my server since a couple weeks after it opened, back in December 2004. Every one of my characters is on that server, and the thought of moving to a new server with no AH economy, no raiding, and noobs as far as the eye can see, makes my skin crawl. It takes a long time to establish a server worth playing on, and I'd rather just stick to mine, even if the Alliance do outnumber us 3.5-1.

No, we don't need any more new realms. We need to fill up the low-pop servers first! I've been on Haomarush since it started over a year ago and I have not seen much growth. It's good on one hand because of the non-existant queue times, and not so good as the economy sux, world pvp is less than stellar, and LFG is a joke. Please reroll/xfer to Haomarush! :D
If you're a 70'ish Horde looking for a casual raiding guild feel free to drop me a line.

I definantly agree with bliz on this. Adding new, un-necessary servers would only increase their maintenance load. That could mean a possible increase in the subscription fee to cover those costs. Fill up the existing realms first, then they can afford to create new realms and not have to raise the fee to do so.

I for one would like to advise everyone to avoid Shu'halo. Please fill all the other servers first.

Ugh. C'mon over to Undermine....it's pretty dead.

The only way Blizzard could justify opening other servers is if they merge the smaller ones (and I still don't really see the problem with this, people on dead servers would love to have more people. I transferred to Muradin the day it opened, and good god it was painful for the first while. It took 6 months of being the "recommended realm" to improve at all, and it's still woefully lacking horde, even though it's a "medium" population server. It may be fun to be the first to get to 60, or 70 now I guess, but with this many servers, with this many low population servers, opening new ones to, as the trolls like to put it "stroke your e-peen" is now (hopefully) a thing of the past.

I'm just wondering, if these underpopulated servers go a long time without getting new people and increasing the population significantly, will Blizzard merge servers? Have they every done something like that before?
freehugz Mar 27th 2007 6:59PM
They should make one server that resets monthly to keep all the "look at how much faster than you i can level!" crowd happy.
... or is there another reason why someone would want to join a new server over a low population server?

To #7 : It's only the old races on Undermine that are Ghost Towns. Draenei and Blood Elfs abound in their newbie starting zones. I know...my main (same as signature line) is on Undermine. Kind of hard to give up the old Server where I have a ton of Gold, you know? So when I rerolled, I rerolled Draenei and Blood Elfs on the Server.
