Around Azeroth: Taming the elusive Dragonhawk [Updated]

I have to admit -- I've never seriously played a hunter. (By which I mean I've never played one much beyond level 20.) But the idea of taming pets always fascinated me, and whenever I have spent time playing hunters, I've always gone out of my way to find and tame interesting beasts. (A level 12 troll with a pet owl gets a lot of attention. "Where did you get that?!" "Teldrassil." "Where's that?" "You have to catch the boat from Darkshore." And then, thirty minutes later, "You didn't tell me it was an alliance zone!!!!!" "You didn't ask!") Which is why I love this shot sent in by reader Kehyler of Onyxia, showing similar perseverance in acquiring a unique pet -- this one a brilliant red Dragonhawk found in the Blood Elf starting zone. (I can only imagine traveling through Eastern Plaguelands around level 10 is painful...)
Update: Reader Chris noticed this post and sent in an excellent set of instructions for a Draenei hunter wishing to tame their own Dragonhawk. (And even if you aren't a Draenei, they should be helpful.) Thanks, Chris!

there is a room in the west end of the ruins of lordaeron (top of undercity) that will teleport you into silvermoon, and then just spirit res ... although i am not sure it works for alliance, i have not tried it.

Difference is the Dragonhawks make crap pets, early ones are all "caster" type nerfing their stats. The unique ability, Fire Breath, has 2 ranks, one at lvl 1, the other at 60, making it all but useless until you hit the original lvl cap. Can't even learn Claw.
Meanwhile, the Owl can learn Claw, Screech is kinda nice in group PvP and it's got great DPS. Owls also have a theme song written by music comedy god Bill Bailey:

IMO the Death Ravager is far more elusive :P

@#2/monkeywraith:
I don't think Alliance can use that port, I think I went to it, and I couldn't find anything that would let me teleport.

The Death Ravager is bugged, you can't heal it, buff it, it won't attack other players.
Thanks for that by the way Blizz.

Ahhh, I remember the days of going way out of my way for a pet. I ran my level 18 Dwarf hunter to the Barrens to tame a Sunscale raptor -- good times, good times.

My 11 blood elf hunter has Mangeclaw for her pet.
Running from Undercity to Dun Morogh -- especially with the guarded Dwarven tunnels along the last stretch -- sure was an adventure.

@6: Thanks for the heads up... WTF is that about. I made a hunter for kicks and he has the Death Ravager and Mangeclaw... I don't see why that can't just fix it.

Wow, I didn't expect to get linked quite so fast - or for WOW Insider readers to overwhelm my server quite so fast. ;) I'm sorry to anyone trying to get there and failing - I hope it'll be accessible again soon!
