Around Azeroth: Twirly!

Reader Mike sends in this nifty screenshot taken in my personal favorite Outland zone, Zangarmarsh. I've apparently never run into this particular twirly, but Mike tells us it can be found in the southwestern part of the map, near the path into Nagrand. It's an odd little thing to be out in the wilderness -- is there a story here, or was it just something a Blizzard designer added to break the monotony of mushrooms, mushrooms, mushrooms?

I don't know of any Warcraft lore behind this, or any quests involving it, but the dark line of dirt in the circle happens to match the Sega Dreamcast logo almost perfeclty. o_o
