Starting from scratch with the same class
Kraylessa on WoW Ladies has a problem I've been thinking about lately as well. When I first started playing WoW, I rolled an NE hunter (yes, I know it's a cliche noob class and race but I was young and impressionable at the time), and while I was able to get her all the way up to 60, I've since abandoned her for another server (because a friend made me move) and for the Horde (because, come on, Horde rocks). I've since rolled up a shaman, a rogue, and a mage, but even after playing and enjoying those, I still long to play a hunter again-- the combination of crazy ranged DPS, traps, and a powerful pet is like a siren song to me.So I'm faced with the possibility of rerolling the same class I already played, and, like Kraylessa, this is not really something I want to do (at least I wasn't made to reroll because of an accidental character deletion). True, it has been a while since I've played the hunter, so things have changed a lot (not to mention that I've learned a lot as a player). And I'd likely try another spec-- my hunter was a marksman, so I'd probably try a BM (Kray doesn't want to level her priest shadow, but I have no idea why-- shadow priests are hella fun, and if she missed out by leveling with holy the first time around, she owes it to herself to level a face melter).
But it still seems like it would be boring, like a suspense movie I've already seen. Have you ever rerolled the exact same class? Was it definitely worth it or completely a pain? I'd really enjoy having a brand new Blood Elf hunter as a main, but I just don't know if I'd enjoy grinding all the way to 70 again.

i rerolled a priest because of server change issues.
it sucked a lot for the first 20 levels or so, but once interesting things started happening again it was all good. plus, i got to play with shadow - i had been holy before.

Nobody told me that almost all druid gear goes best with green hair. I started my second druid with green last week. Got him to lvl 5 and parked him in an inn. Eventually I'll get around to leveling him.

I would say, if you haven't played your character for a while, it might be worth recreating. Also, leveling with knowledge is much faster and more fun than leveling as a noob.
My first character was a troll shaman. I reached 60, but my spec was all wrong, my equipment sucked, and I spent so much time on solo quests that I missed out on a lot of fun dungeons and cool stuff. Also, I didn't level all my tradeskills. When you're new to the game, you can miss out on a lot.
Now, fast forward 2 years and about 20 alts. When BC came out, I rolled a Draenei Shammy on my new server. Armed with everything I needed (including helpful add-ons), I quickly leveled him and chose all the right equipment, quests and talents to make it fun and easy. And I'm enjoying him a lot. Also his jewelcrafting helps out my main tremendously.
If you want to build a hunter, I say go for it. You might try a new tradeskill or a new race. But the NE hunter is a classic that never fails to entertain.

Shaman has always been and will always be my favorite class. I rolled my first, an orc on Proudmoore, and levelled him to 60 as a resto shaman in tier 1. I rolled my second on the pvp server, Kel'thuzad, an elemental troll twink just for pvping. I loved the class, but all my friends moved to alliance side, and I played more with them, so I reluctantly made a few alliance alts. Now once TBC anounced alliance Shaman, I knew what my next character would be! And soon thereafter, Kraezei was born! (now lvl 70 and running Karazhan.)

Druid re-roller here. I decided to roll a second druid on another server because a friend needed one in his guild. My first was at level 54 when I started my second one.
Previous posters are right, the second time around seems a lot more fun. Especially if you leveled with the wrong spec the first time. :) My first druid I went balance just to try it out (back in pre-moonkin suckiness). The moonkin patch came out when I was just about to respec feral, so obviously I stayed balance to try it out.
My second druid leveled purely as feral and I had a ton more fun with her.
Still, I've got a NE priest that I've always wanted to re-roll as *any* other race, but I can't bring myself to do it again. :) Guess it doesn't really work for every class.

Man, I've levelled two hunters. One Tauren to 60, then restarted as an orc on a friends server and got him to 70. With no break in between. Being BM spec is just... fun. For me anyways.
I doubt you'll be disappointed as a BE either. 8 yard silence on mages that want to get in close? +I.W.I.N. Button? Game over.

Hah. I have a level 70 human warrior, a level 67 tauren warrior, a level 66 night elf warrior, a level 60 orc warrior, and a level 51 draenei warrior.
I love warriors. I don't really enjoy playing any other class.

BM hunters get insta-kicked from my groups.

After getting bored with shaman last year, I hopped onto another server and rolled a Human Paladin.
I had alot of fun leveling the class, but I'm a horde boy at heart, so I eventually abandoned her, and went back to my shaman. As soon as BELFadins came out, I had to reroll.
Pretty much, I've abandoned my Shaman at this point, and I'm @ 63 on my new Belf Paladin. I find that using a leveling guide, like Jame's Leveling Guide on Wow-pro.com is really helpful for breaking the monotony of leveling to 70 a 2nd time.
Use the guide and you don't have to think about questing, just about killing/retrieving stuff.
Good luck!

kinda funny that this would pop up. I just rerolled from a 70 nelf hunter to an orc hunter to play with some old friends on a realm where i leveled a rogue to 60.
im only level 15 right now, but im taking my time, in no rush to hurry to 70 (end game, been there, done that). Its alot of fun and i dont get sick of playing a hunter.

I started with an undead warlock on a PvE server who I leveled to 60 and did lots of raids with. Then I got bored and quit WoW for a while, but when I came back instead of picking back up with the same toon - I rolled an human lock on a PvP server and he is now 70 and my main.
I also tried to play other classes (mage, druid, shaman) and the whole time I played them I just kept wishing I was playing a warlock.
Maybe if they decide to let PvE characters transfer to PvP servers I'll pick up my undead lock and get him to 70 - but until then I've got no real reason to play him.

I'm actually rolling the same class simultaneously. I have a resto Shaman at 66, and recently rolled another Shaman (currently at 13) with the intent on speccing Enhancement, after that prolly roll a third with Elemental. Some people say that rerolling is boring, and it kind of has been to this point but that is only because he's lvl 13 and speccing hasn't really come into play all that much I'd really have to revisit this issue at a level when speccing makes a difference.

I did this exact thing. And I don't regret a moment of it.
Back in the day when I first started the game, I made a dwarf hunter and a human warrior on a PvE server, Draenor. Things were fantastic, despite how naive I was at the time (I distinctly remember thinking how I was the sh*t when I made a Heavy Copper Maul (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=6214) and someone put a minor beastslayer on it. You know, back in the day when I thought white items were awesome. Long story short, my warrior did get to 60. But I didn't want to raid, and the AV queues were measured in the hours at the time, and so my warrior began to grow dust. Then as more of my friends joined the addiction bandwagon, a bunch of us decided that we'd throw some excitement into the mix by moving to a PvP server as a group. To change things up, I had everyone change classes. I rolled a rogue as a main, and she got to 60. But every now and then, I'd be playing my rogue and saying "I miss my warrior so much!"
So I created a human warrior on the PvP server. Exact same look. Exact same name. And now she's 70 and my main, while my rogue is 63. I may never go back to Draenor, now that I thrash in PvP and there's so much content left for my warrior to explore.
In the end, if you get that inkling to start a-fresh, follow that inkling. I did, and I'm glad I did. Besides, killing Garrick Padfoot and soloing Hogger again are priceless experiences, even after you've hit 70.

I first started playing WOW by rolling an undead warrior with engineering on a friend's account and playing when he wasn't, taking him up to about 50 before finally upgrading my ancient laptop and getting my own account. My main since then has been a gnome rogue (who continued with the engineering; I know it's underpowered but it's fun and my Battles Goggles look totally badass). I hit 70 about a month ago and have long since finished all the non-instance quests I could in Outland and ground all the reputation I wanted (exalted for Scryers, Consortium and Kurenai), and since I'm not in a large guild things have kind of slowed down while I look for groups to instance with. So on a whim I decided to reroll my starting class/race, and it's been an absolute blast. I'm doing things much more quickly since I know the areas and the game better, I've picked blacksmithing as a much more appropriate profession for my class, I know where I want to take my talent build from the start and how to work toward it, and I know what quests are and aren't worth doing. And knowing my way around the instances better certainly doesn't hurt.

I started a NE hunter on one server, got him to 46, then switched to another server, rerolled a Dorf hunter and took him all the way to 60. Then I found out I could actually transfer my old hunter to my new server, so I did that, and finished him up. Then I got the horde bug just before BC came out and I just recently finished taking a troll hunter to 60.
You get out of a class what you put into it. I love the hunter class (my guild thinks I'm nuts) and the mechanics of the class don't bother me at all. I would think people would have more of an issue doing the same quests. I went out of my way to do things with each succeeding character that was different than the previous (in terms of questing and levelling) but for all three of my hunters, no question, BM for levelling. Once I get them all to 70, I'm not sure how I'll spec, but I know each one will probably be different. That's the win for levelling multiple toons of the same class, you can specialize completely differently and use em for totally different things without having to worry about respec costs.
If there would be anything I'd change, I'd say that if you've taken a class to 60/70, if you start another character of that class, start at like level 11 and not have to do your "lern2play" quests. Not that the time sink is that big a deal, it's just annoying to go through the "here's how taming works" questline again.

You said:

Then later you said:

Just so you know, you're still young and impressionable.

Why, for the love of all things great and small are BM aligned hunters considered the "cigarette smokers" of Azeroth? I'm a level 60 Night Elf hunter (also don't understand the "cliche noob class and race " comment).
I just never understood the hatred. Playing WoW is all about having fun with the game. If that means being a Night Elf / Hunter / BM aligned then so be it. I've played WoW for ages and don't consider myself a noob in the least. It's frankly a darned fun race & class to play!
If it's because of the lack of Trueshot Aura (which is what is suspect) then the group is in need of more help then just a Marksman aligned hunter.
I'll be honest, I spend more time alone in Outland and when I do group, I'm usually invited back to run anytime.
Can't we all just get along?

I've got a friend with something like 4 level 60+ warlocks, and I can't imagine doing that. Like Mike, though, my first 60 was an ally hunter (not an elf though - c'mon man! haha) and I miss tracking, trapping, and generally owning everything. I made a BE hunter but I dunno if he'll make it out of the low teens... even if I put no points in the filthy Beast Mastery tree I think I'd feel guilty being able to trap in combat :)

I re-rolled a lock after moving to a pvp server. He's currently at level 20. since i haven't logged onto him in a while, i just don't want to bother with the grind, but that is due more to the fact that i don't want to be an alliance player (never did). the reason why i rolled alliance was because of rl friends. Since then i joined the horde on one of the new servers (underbog). being horde is a totally different experience. less resources, ah has less goods, etc. but i like the orc lore more then any lore on the alliance side. I have friends that try to get me to help them on the alliance side, but after a couple of minutes, i realize that i am not into it. i perfer the underdog.
As for the lock reroll needless to say it didn't work out, but i am still fairly new to the game under 1 yr. I am still trying to find what i like the best before fully committing.
