This year's World Series of Video Games to include WoW

The games to be included in the 2007 World Series of Video Games competition have just been announced, and it's an eclectic mix including World of Warcraft, Guitar Hero II, Quake 4, and Fight Night Round 3. Wondering what place World of Warcraft has at a competitive event like this? Diverging from Blizzard's 5v5 tournament format (where multiple teams have professional sponsorship) WSVG is going to be sending its competitors into the 3v3 arenas. The WSVG is a world-wide event that's making stops in Wuhan, China (May); Louisville (June); Dallas (July); Rome or London (October); and Sweden's Dreamhack event (end of November/beginning of December). Registration is currently open for Wuhan and Louisville, so if you think you're ready to dominate in the 3v3 arena bracket, here's your chance.

I'll be looking forward to any television coverage of the event. G4 maybe?

Sorry, but I think this is nonsense. I've been in online competition for quite some time now. I even thought about writing a timeline/ simple book about the development. And I don't see how WoW fits in the established competition series. The structure/idea of online competition doesn't work with WoWs Arena.
Ask yourself what all the established video game competitions that are being held have in common and compare it with any (MM)ORPG. See the difference? I am _very_ sceptic about this (and winning money).

It doesn't matter if the game is "the best" game for competetive. All the sponsor's care about is how many people are going to be interested. With such a huge player base WoW is a great game to be sponsoring in a competition like this.

So do all players start with "new" characters or will they be using their established characters? Will they all have the same three character types with the same gear? And do they get to choose those types?

You will be surprised in how we will be televising all of our content this year. Also, the specifics have not yet been announced on the gear but expect it to be pre-set characters (excluding talents) with standardized gear. Any more questions you can find me on Gamesurge and QuakeNet IRC #WSVG-Arena.
