Is guild housing in our future? Blizz says yes!

No -- we don't have an ETA. And you can be sure this isn't going to be in patch 2.1. But CM Nethaera recently confirmed that guild housing is still on Blizzard's agenda. Of course, she can't give us any details -- she's just letting us know they're still planning on it, and that the Blizzard team has a mountain worth of ideas and there's still only 24 hours in a day.
This is a bit different than the last official response we received on the subject, which was when Drysc told us in February that Blizzard doesn't "have any current development or plans on guild halls." But he does encourage some discussion on what a guild hall could be. And on the suggestion forums, there's extensive discussion of what players want in a guild housing solution. But what do you think Blizzard will do with the idea of guild housing when they get around to it?

Don't feel bad... I'm not even in a guild!

They're Alliance...what do you want from them? It's in their blood...bunch of posers.

I suppose instead of player housing, we could have guild housing instead. It'd save on the server load, and serve a similar purpose. There is a barred Instance Portal in Stormwind between the Trade District and Old Town(the Southeast wall on the map), so that could be a potential entrance area for instanced guild housing for Alliance.

Guild housing would be great. have a guild bank in there and maybe a store with discounted prices for guildies provided by other guildies. possiblities are endless.

Stupid 24 hour days!

Before we get guild housing, we need an overhaul of the guild system. Right now a guild is nothing more than some words over your head and a green chat channel. How about adding a tiered system for guilds - at the bottom, you have the kind of guilds that exist now, but by spending a few thousand G, you can upgrade to a full-fledged guild with a custom bank, guild flagging for raid instances, democratic controls for removing MIA GMs, and some other much-needed features. IMO, something like this is necessary before releasing housing.
What I'd really like to see for guild housing is making it PvP based (perhaps in addition to an alternate PvE path.) Guilds could compete over instanced castles scattered throughout the world; by successfully assaulting or defending a castle, you'd get points, and every Tuesday when the server reset, the top guilds on the server would each get a castle to call their own (and attempt to defend!). Maybe just a pipe dream for WoW...

A simple way to build guild houses is to use the typical instance architecture, the guild house is one location, and whenever each guild member enters, they will be loaded into that guild's "instance" which will save space and give each guild their own place. Perhaps each major city could have its own guild house.

That's what I said. There's already an unused instance portal or 2 in Stormwind. And I'm sure they could strip Old Ironforge out and add an Instance Portal for Guild Housing there, or at least add an Instance Portal down there. And who would honestly put their Guild Housing in Exodar or Darnassus?
And I don't know enough about the Horde cities to know about where they could have Guild Housing.

Because of the potential for guild housing, it was the only reason I formed a guild. It currently consists of me and 3 friends who took pity on me and signed the charter...
Yes, its a guild of one. :D

I think it could work like BG instances do - there could be a door in every big inn that goes to the guild hall - when you leave you go back to where you started.
I don't want lots of crazy complicated stuff there, a cooking fire would be nice, maybe other crafting stuff - but a guild bank would rock. I'm the GM and three of my toons are guild banks.
What do I think Blizz will do? I have no earthly idea... I'm a fan tho' so I'm hopeful.

Then again the guild bank doesn't even need to be *in* the hall... an option to view the guild bank when you go to the regular bank would be just as good.

I would love to have a guild house but now that I'm in a kara guild, there really isn't that much time to spend besides farming, raiding and helping lowbies. If so, there needs to be a quick and cheap way to get to/from the guild house.

I reackon everything should be kept in the guild instance.(someone mentioned accessing the guild bank form a normal bank) but as well as some of the things mentioned above, the guild as a whole should have loads of miny monster instance where guild members to go to help each other train and at the end maybe unlock loads of different items for the guild which could be intergrated into the whole idea of having a guild shop in the first place???
John Apr 13th 2007 7:48AM
I like the idea of a central place to keep stuff - maybe your guild could "buy" a vendor or something.
And it would be great if your guild could buy fires/forges/etc. - or buy all those little conveniences - maybe even an auctioneer at really high levels. I hope if they do that kind of stuff they make the fees for those services pretty high - it would only be cool if you have to work for it, not if every lame little guild can have one. Maybe Blizzard needs to add 1 platinum = 100g soon.....

How about guild rep. that is one way to add stuff to the guild hall. you could have a formula on how many players you have in the guild and then take their current rep in to account. that way the huge guilds and the small guilds could have a chance to have the same stuff with some about the same amount of work.

In Guild Wars, you could buy all some of amenitities for your Guild Hall. It was its own instance for just guild members.
I would love to see a guild AH and/or bank. Access could be given to members of certain ranks to prevent ninjas from joining and stealing from the bank.

Guild housing will probably be ready by the time a new expansion launches. :(
Iskilopedope Apr 13th 2007 11:09AM
I had experience with guild halls in SWG. They were cool if you are a big roleplaying guild or to display accomplishments of the guild. I hope the player housing would somehow be instanced based more like EQ2, and they base it out of the guild hall. That cuts down on server lag which was one of the downfalls of SWG.

Ok forgive my noobness but WOW is my first MMO. What is the general purpose of a guild house? I understand specifics will vary depending on what Blizzard allows but a general sense of it is what?
