The goggles do nothing!

A much-vaunted part of 2.1's Engineering "review" has been the 11 new epic goggles. Blizzard haven't exactly been forthcoming about their stats, and Thottbot's test database doesn't have most of them yet, but with a little scouting around I've managed to collect the stats on 10 out of the 11 goggles (I couldn't find anything on the cloth healing ones). Part of the reason this information is a little hard to find is that even if you're an Engineer of appropriate skill level, you only see the goggles corresponding to your armor type on the trainer, so no swapping down to leather goggles for Hunters if you like the stats better.
Anyway, for the most parts, the stats look like they only slightly beat out most easily available stuff, which is honestly a little disappointing, when compared to professions like Tailoring or Blacksmithing that let you craft some pretty awesome items. On the other hand, the material requirements aren't that extreme. The reason behind these pieces' sub-incredible stats, I've heard, is that they only require 350 skill to create, and therefore have a lower item level than pieces that require 375 skill, resulting in a lower itemization budget. It'd be nice if they were upgradeable, like some of Blacksmithing's stuff, so you could start out with a small investment and build on that over time to something truly extraordinary.
Well, see for yourself; the stats are after the cut. DPS Warriors, don't worry; unlike G'eras's stuff, there's one here for you, as pictured above. And if anyone finds the info on the cloth healing goggles, please drop it in the comments and I'll edit it in.

Whatever. The plate tanking ones are BETTER THAN TIER 4. BETTER. THAN. TIER. 4. I could care less if the others are mediocre, Tankatronic Goggles 4tw.
Juliah Apr 15th 2007 11:43PM
Blizzard, why can't you just make Engineering as good as the other crafts? Is it really so much to ask?

The cloth DPS goggles are better than T4 for mages as well.
Smutcakes Apr 15th 2007 5:13PM
too bad that new goggles, anew grenade and minimal changes to cooldowns do not change the underlying problem of engineering. Nearly all of the items are either geared mainly towards hunters (guns/ammo), have level caps (explosives) or simply don't get used as just about any other trinket is more useful than the engineering junk.
Finally many engineering items have better alternatives which are open to everyone, the latest example being the new slowfall capes.

Rogue goggles are great as well, easily on par or surpassing tier 4.
RSH Apr 15th 2007 3:12PM
The Deathblow X11 Goggles are bloody incredible...far better than the Gnomish Battle Goggles I was using for a while, which require Engineering 375 and have ridiculously expensive mats (eight heavy knothide, 12 each primal earth, fire and shadow, and two living rubies). Can't wait, especially since they've nerfed my Guile of Khoraazi...

Great Simpsons reference in the title.

While im not going to out and out diss blizzard, they are going about buffing engineering all the wrong way. Engineering has never been about goggles or ammo, its been about freaking ridiculously random trinkets, bombs, abilities, and whatnot. I have never cared about goggles, all i cared about was bombs and gnomish battle chickens. Buff the death ray and battle chickens for gnomes, and give goblins tons of random stuff that goes boom.

Can't believe there are no pics of each pair... who cares about stats if they won't match my robe?!?!
Savok Apr 15th 2007 10:30PM
I have solved the Eng problem with one simple addition.
Utility Belts, there's already an invulnerability belt, even tailoring has a belt that increases swimming speed. Give us a selection of belts that do cool shit like reduce cooldowns on certain abilities, give us a crappy, static stealth like Shadowmeld.
Make us Batman.

@ 9:
Except... for the fact that three people under me said the exact same thing I did. So obviously there is a market for the goggles, and this post is rediculous, because people like the goggles. The majority of them are better than t4 and much, much easier to obtain.
sfl_mrfantastic Apr 16th 2007 3:04PM
So are these BoE or BoP like the epic blacksmithing items and do they require engineering skill to equip?
Siedre Apr 16th 2007 10:54AM
Wow... I'm sorry but I completely disagree with the poster. Those leather goggles are fantastic.
Akks Apr 16th 2007 11:10AM
The tank helm is very good, and I am considering dropping blacksmithing for engineering at this point....but I just know Blizz will prolly pull the bait and switch and nerf the good googles in a month. All they know is NERF NERF NERF!
Alhoe Apr 17th 2007 7:59AM
The one on Thottbot ist BoP and needs skill 350. I think they all do so.
