Blizzard offers Burning Crusade free trial-- to whom?
Ok, I'll admit there probably isn't much of a point to telling you about this, but I'll do it anyway. Just in case you haven't been by Blizzard's WoW homepage in a while (and why would you, with such an informative site here, right?), it appears that they have announced a free trial for the Burning Crusade expansion. That's right, if you really weren't prepared and haven't purchased the expansion yet, you can now download and try it for free for 10 days. That said, who among you out there really hasn't purchased the Burning Crusade yet? I don't mean to make a hard sell (personally, I don't care if you buy it or not), but you have an inhuman amount of willpower if you've been reading this site, checking out all this amazing stuff, and have been able to somehow avoid the temptation to go out, to plunk down the cash and head into Outland.
I guess if you're not yet 60, there's not a lot of call for it, but even if you're a lowbie, you'll like the new Draenei and Blood Elf lands. Has anyone out there not taken the plunge yet? And what on Azeroth has kept you from buying it? At any rate, if you want a free trial of what you're missing, Blizzard is ready to offer it to you.

I am hoping they are offering this trial for a while, since I have not bought it yet, my main is a lvl 55 human warrior. I am very close and this was a very welcome surprise when I loaded up my WoW, it had it on the news service page before I load up WoW.
I think it will be a decent thing for me, since once I hit 58, I can head into outland with my ten day free trial, then once its up, I can go out and buy it. I will say one thing, it is hard to justify when I bought the game for $20 in November and for me to unlock a few zones and scenery, all with crazy armor, for $50... its a tough sell only for the pockets... I wish they made it cheaper. I imagine the downloadable version should be cheaper, considering you are not getting a box or anything (or are you?).

Well, I thought for sure that my wife and I weren't going to buy BC until our mains hit 58, (53s atm) but after hearing about the benefits of setting my hearthstone in Shattrath for all the ports to major cities and getting tired of leveling alts through the 20s in the same places over and over, we took the plunge a few weeks ago and bought the expansion.
Haven't looked back.
I did just recruit a co-worker with the 10 day free trial, and he's going to enjoy having all of it available to him to play with, I'm sure.

I have a funny question, if lets say I dont buy the expansion after the trial, does my warrior stay at lvl 62 (or whatever I may end up reaching)? This will be interesting to see what happens...

I just got roped into this game back in the end of January. My only character, my level 47 Warrior, has no need to go to the Outlands. Plus all my money is going to my fiancee and my Microsoft tests ;) I wish I would have gotten into this game sooner so I could appreciate most of the posts on here better. Doesn't seem like anyone cares about "the old world" anymore (understandibly)

I'm pretty sure they're not intending this promotion for active players. It's more of a ploy to bring inactive players back to WoW..it seemed pretty obvious to me.

@3: Most likely your character at lvl 63 won't be available to play anymore unless you have a BC account. Kinda like when I upgraded to BC on my main comp, created a BE, then couldn't play him on my second computer until I installed BC there as well.
Just guessing, tho.

That would really suck that I couldn't play... but it makes the most sense that way. BTW, #5 martineau, when you load the game, it does say for current subscribers, so i could get it.

My friend's getting 10 free wow days off of it... his account was frozen, and he thought he'd try getting the free trial, and it gave him 10 days to play without a gamecard.
Zack Apr 19th 2007 2:08PM
Sorry for double posting, but
@3 you can only get up to 1 xp point before level 61. Obviously this is so your example wouldnt happen :P

This just becomes a cheaper way for gold advertising spammers to create new toons.
I am constantly /w'd and in game mailed by gold sellers, look for this to make it worse.

I haven't bought it yet. I just bought the "classic" two weeks ago. I wanted to see if I liked WoW well enough to buy it.
Needless to say, like I heard in Barrens Chat last night, "If you play WoW, you've sold your soul to it."
But I'm still holding off. Why? I wanna get to a level where I can experience the Outlands first hand. I don't really care much about Blood Elves and Dranei ATM, simply cuz I'm still acclimating to the game in general. But as soon as I ding 50, oh yes....it will be mine.

I stopped playing WoW when TBC came out. I'll be making use of this offer to go check out the Draenei starting area and get 10 free days of gametime! I have a week of soon, so I'll time it accordingly :)
@10 how does it make it worse? If you want to goldspam someone, it doesn't make a difference whether you have TBC or not (or am I missing something here?).
multikast Apr 19th 2007 3:14PM
so what happens if you get the trial, gear up your lvl 60 with outlands gear, and then don't buy the expansion? would that be a lvl 60 twink? even though i don't know who would want to do that... but i'm sure someone would.
Strongmark on Arthas Apr 19th 2007 3:20PM
@ 9 Zack,
Thanks dude. Makes even more sense, so it doesnt lock out your char. #13 multikast does bring up a good point too, how about the gear you've acquired or any outland loot that may be in your backpack?
monkeyhouse Apr 19th 2007 3:47PM
i have not bought TBC yet as my (and my wife's) main is almost at 59 and i have a serious alt addiction...
but this will really cause some problems! i really want to get to 60 before we buy TBC and when i do i know that a new alt (or 2) will not be far behind!
also for everyone with questions, go to the WoW homepage and read the FAQ so you stop sounding dumb. all the answers are there. (you keep the gold and xp and items and crafts and skills and pets etc etc and get booted from outland if you are still there after the 10 days)
BaboonNL Apr 19th 2007 3:57PM
A 60 twink is kinda pointless, since the BG tier is 60-69, even for people without BC. :)
Guernia Apr 19th 2007 4:13PM
For those waiting for level 58, consider that at level 55 you get all-new levels of primary and secondary professions at the Outland trainers. Also, as mentioned above, you can set your hearth to Shattrath and port around Azeroth rather easily. And, finally, I do believe the only JC trainers are in new, non-BC inaccessible zones, so if you wanted to train a PCer on an alt, you couldn't (someone correct me if I'm wrong - I'd check on Wowhead but work blocks it :/ )
Byron Hulcher Apr 19th 2007 10:33PM
My one and only character is at 42 right now, so I see no point to get it. I'll grab this when I hit 58 before I have a chance to run to the store.

why cant wow be free to play!?
