I am impressed by EU forumgoer Yippi. Despite having two characters at level 70, one at level 69, two more at 60, and a host of lower levels, Yippi has never even seen a world drop epic. That's enough to make you wonder if the darn things even exist! Even though, in my experience, I have to say that they do -- while leveling, I've gotten Robes of Insight, an Underworld Band, a Jeweled Amulet of Cainwyn, and I've seen (though I didn't win) a Krol Blade. Maybe I'm as lucky as Yippi is unlucky?
But, I don't know... like the guys over at Penny Arcade say -- green is the new purple. Maybe missing out on those world drop epics isn't that bad after all.

I've focussed mainly on two characters in all my time on WoW. With one of them being a raiding Lock I got used to grinding shards and recall seeing three of the five world drops I had prior to TBC dropping whilst shard gathering. I recall getting a dazzling longsword, the bow of searing arrows, a freezing band, the robes of insight (I loved this one for my priest alt) & the green tower. Grouped in 5 man instances, Krol Blade, Destiny, Hand of Edward the Odd.
So far in TBC I've had Lola's Eve drop and a week later when in Karazhan we had the set peice Charlotte's Ivy drop which the team let me have :oD

Wall of the Dead, dropped in Felwood while my shammy was grinding solo..
nice shield, still have it.

I have 3 level 70's and I have atleast got 20 world epic drops (pre and post BC combined that is)
Dunno what I'm doing right, but I see them all the time, and Im that guy who is selling them from my level 1 alt for a whole load of gold.

Lvl 70, a couple of alts and not one world epic. Worse than that since playing TBC I've seen two BoE blues drop... two! One was a bugged item (a fist weapon or something that had the wrong equip level -70 rather than 60 according to the wow forums) vendored that. The other were blue trousers in SV - which someone else won.
Blizzard want me to be poor :(

Isn't it great feeling sorry for yourself about this? Same story here: Not a single epic, ever, and just 2 blues during BC. The first was a shield I bought of the AH just the day before, and went to the other member of the group. The second was a Two of Portals. Good times.
I've received great blue bops in instances though, so, you know, who cares?

I'm lvl 51, started playing WoW week TBC came out, so 4 months. I've received 4 Epics drops out questing in the world on loot drop. First time i hadn't even noticed i had picked up a epic due to auto loot pickup. Then last week while grinding away questing i got 3 Epic swords in 1 week. A Stunner!!
Yeah Rare but they do exist, every once in a while one falls out of the void from somewhere. I figure out the secret to getting epics on World drops and they really is a secret.
The secret is to absolutely and undeniabily KILL absolutely EVERYTHING, that assures you get a better chance in a random occurance you will receive a drop. If you kill everything everywhere all the time, something have to drop. Its all numbers in the roll of a dice, roll it enough times, your number has to come up at somepoint. Thats the secret.

Only ever gotten one - Dazzling Longsword (http://thottbot.com/i869). Sigh. Granted, the highest level I've gotten a charatcer to so far has been 43...

I spent my first year of play-time with no world drops. Then about a month before BC, a freezing band dropped in WPL while I was grinding AD rep. I sold it to a guildie leveling a mage for a decent price.
About two weeks before the expansion, I saw about 4-5 world drops in groups, one of which I won; it was a Dwarven Hand Cannon in Undead Strat.
Like the rest of my WoW career, epic drops seem to come in bunches for me. You just stick with it.

I'm level 59 on my warlock main, and I've gotten 3 world epic drops! :D
Hammer of the Northern Wind, Eye of Flame, and Lifestone.

I've gotten 2 glowing brightwood staffs, 1 krol blade, and a blade of wizardry as world drops.

Hm... I must say that I have 3 chars at 60 and one at 65:
With two of the 60 chars I looted 2 Random World Epics while Leveling.
With one of the 60 chars none (But lots of Blues).
With my current (the 65 one) I also have none yet but also few blues...(Though I have Alanna's Embrace and Blade of Eternal Darkness and have witnessed a drop of the Gladiator's Chain in my guild).
I seems to me that the epics in high non-BC instances drop more often if you do a quick run. (As in patch notes for 1.10). I used to run the places with my well-rehearsed guildies and all three of the epics dropped in our firstrun.

Been playing since beta ... I've SEEN one "world drop" from UBRS (the gun that drops off trash there) ... and did not win it. I've never looted one or seen one when outside of an instance. My first epic came from the AH after I got tired of wiping on Lucifron, I bought the Cenarion Bracers for 25g (a steal I know). The only other time I've possessed a purple outside of TBC was once when I bought some epic skull sheild off the AH for 4 silver (FOUR SILVER) and sold it for 600g. Thanks for my epic mount, whoever bought that one.

lol yep closest ive come to seeing a epic is on the AH. But I have gotten a decent number of blues inluding the boe dagger from SFK which sold for a decent chunk of change for a blue.

I have seen a handful of world drop epics in my time with WoW (playing since release). The most I have ever seen is two on one character. I found a Fiery War Axe on a random mob, and auctioned it for a nice chunk of gold. The highlight was a Precisely Calibrated Boomstick (gun) that I found in a treasure chest in the Hinterlands. As a Hunter I was quite happy about that one.
I've had the Fiery War Axe drop one other time, and again it went to the AH. I've been in a group when the Krol Blade dropped, but didn't win it.
I am probably forgetting a few from instance runs, but that is all that I can remember.

My wife and I got a Dazzling Longsword drop off a Basalisk in STV. I think that's the only epic I've seen so far drop for us. The blues every now and then are a real treat!

I had the warden's staff drop in Ungoro Crater for my then 45 mage (who, being my first character, noobly equipped the staff while excitedly sharing the discovery of it via whisper with my druid friend who could have used it to better effect :P). That was also prior to dressing rooms and I was excited to see what it looked like hahaha. When my noob mage hit 58 I saw the hurricane ( -its a bow or gun can't remember) drop in Winterspring. I was teaming with a hunter at the time for faction rep and passed on it for him. He was so excited he talked in caps for the rest of our teaming time. On my priest (same server) I saw Alanna's Embrace drop in Stratholme (awesome robe :D) and the Book of the Dead (which summons a skellie to fight for you!) drop in scholomance. Fun Fun.

Playing for 5 months - seen a couple blues but didn't win the roll - only had one blue in my possession - a Bonechewer - the 30g it sold for on auction got me my first mount!! :D
