Breakfast Topic: Failing to succeed

Over at Kill Ten Rats, Zubon has brought up an interesting point about failure. So you're the best tank, or the best rogue, or the best mage you can be. You've played this role game after game -- the class names have changed, but your playstyle hasn't. Says Zubon:
You are stuck in your comfort zone. You need to go out there and fail. Try a lot of things. A lot. You will be lousy at most of them and you will do dumb things. But a few of them will really work for you.
What do you think? Are you stuck in a rut in the gaming world? Maybe it's time to go out and try your hand at a new alt!

I have two mains, a shaman and a warrior. I've grouped my shaman as Resto, elemental, and enhancement, but my warrior has always been Prot. For me, tanking has been the most fun. Yet, having a perspective on healing, DPS, and tanking has helped me in each aspect and kept the game interesting.
As a tank, I've gotten better at holding aggro on multiple mobs, because I know how healing can pull someone to you if not everyone is tagged yet. Similarly, on trash mobs, I've come to use my highest hate moves right off the bat to deal with the burst DPS that comes from early crits.
As a DPS shaman, I now know when to wait, when to let loose, when to heal, and how to heal, all because I've played all the roles.

My first character was a prot-specced warrior. Levelled her all the way up to 60 and then got the urge to play a magic class to see how spells would make a difference.
My new main is a warlock. Level 70. I learnt a lot about aggro management from my warrior although I'll probably never play her again.
I've just rolled a paladin just so I can see what that one is like.

Yeah, lol, I'm in the same boat. I've noticed that since going shadow (and having my main tank be a feral druid) all the drops are plate... ><
Either that or it's some cloth that I can wear, but isn't perfect... or cloth that I'd love and lose the roll.
Honestly, it happens so much I think I might be cursed. Three words of the wise:
1) Start that Lower City rep grind to exalted (LOTS of SL) and you can get the +150 dmg mace...
2) Craft yourself the Frozen Shadoweave set. I originally was dismayed by the T4/T5 stats, but I would much rather solo farm the mats and make my "epiks" myself than have to rely on my guild. In fact, just imagine... even if that T4 token drops... you still have to win the roll.
3) If you really are having trouble finding good gear: collect the warlock dungeon set. Most mages won't want it, warlocks seem to be underplayed (at least on my server) and +hit / +dmg is much more useful for shadow Priests.
In fact, on an unrelated note to everything concerning this topic... shadow Priests don't need +crit. None of our DOTs can crit, neither can Mind Flay. Just think about it.

Give me a realm or a zone or something where i can try out a level 40 or higher alt of any class/race and i'll bite. But i don't want to wade through the same starting stuff over and over agian to come back to the same conclusion, that i like Hunter best.

Uhm, excuse me, but what is the picture from above? Is there a non-cropped version? Like it.
