WoW Moviewatch: Why I hate escort quests.
Those mechanical chickens always look so helpless -- whenever I run across them I can't help but try to help them out. This inevitably leads to a scene much like the one Areallysmartcookie shows in the video above. And, yes, for many escort quests, that particular music selection would fit just perfectly. And in case once isn't enough, there's also a sequel.

Whoa is that Stabbing Westward? Been a while.

Don't people know by now not to try and attempt these things solo? I suppose they're doable, but this video isn't really surprising. "Hey, this thing, that's hard? I died doing it."
I was kind of expecting to see someone escorting the Defias Traitor only to watch him get killed by a Horde standing near the Deadmines.

Lame; what happened to good stories on this site?
Sonburn Apr 27th 2007 12:19PM
I have to agree... this one was pretty weak. Seriously, lrn2play.

And that's the reason why escort quests are the worst type of quests in the game. I love to solo and some of them are too difficult to solo and I hate having to ask a guildie for help, especially if it's in an out of the way zone like Feralas (like in the video).
larsiezwei Apr 27th 2007 12:35PM
um. i really didnt need to see that video, they could of said I died during a escort qst and it would have been the same result. Good music though. maybe try to solo it with a lock.

And this ended up on wowinsider, why?... Obviously this person should be playing a melee class. While I agree, many escort quests can get out of hand, that was just abysmal play (you can't toe-to-toe as a mage, and this should be ingrained especially at that level)

I solo escort quests all the time with a druid. Trick is to pull the mobs to you instead of walking up to 3 or 4. Pull them individually and just tank while whoever your escorting dps's for you.

Since that video blew, here's my story.
I was running the defias traitor quest in westfall on my alt priest. I'm just trotting along minding my own business and this high level troll rogue passes by and waves. In my head I thought to myself "If I were on my druid I'd pwn him... oh well, he can't touch me anyways I'm not flagged" Right when I'm about to get to the door, the same rogue appears and one shots my escort. I was totally heartbroken and speechless. WHY WOULD ANYONE DO THAT!?!?

The fact that the mage failed at kiting 3 mobs doesn't mean anything more than that they suck and need to L2Play.
Fail.

Because they're bored. Same mentality behind 70's on PvP servers going to Booty Bay and ganking lowbies. Or, he could just see it as a way to strike out at the Alliance.
As to the video, it didn't really show anything new. I completely avoid escort quests at all costs. Some of them are doable, some are not, and I long since ceased to care. Blizzard cured me of doing escort quests back when I was a lowbie in Darkshore and tried to escort that damn sleeping druid down to Ashenvale. If I could have killed him, I would have.
Those quests often seem to be designed to be purely aggravating, and while sometimes soloable, Blizzard really needs to mark some of them as requiring 2 players. They overhauled the whole Elite/Group quest system, and some of the escort quests should be reclassified as a group quest.

Oh, and the reaction you had--heartbroken and speechless, was exactly what he was aiming for. And posting about the whole thing in a forum is probably more than he could have hoped for.
While escort quest gankings aren't terribly common, you had an option for dealing with him. You mentioned you had a druid that could have taken him, so in the future when things like that happen and its that upsetting, hop on your high level alt and travel to the area. Sometimes people like that are just passing through, and sometimes they set up for a whole evening of griefing and you'll be able to catch up with them and...deal with them.

I tried the chicken quest in Tanaris the other day 4 freakin times. The first time I tried it solo and got all the way to the part where the scorpions jump you and died. When I got back to my body, I saw another group running the same quest so I joined them. When we got to Steamwheedle, they got credit for it but not me. So someone else in the group who didnt get it either went with me back to the starting poing. I couldn't get the damn chicken to come back to life but he did. Halfway through he had to stop for mana regen (im a warrior he was a priest) and the stupid chicken kept walking and we failed the quest. To make a long story short, we hooked up with 2 other groups and both times we didnt get credit. How am I supposed to repeat the damn thing successfully? I don't need any "l2play" responses either. My warrior is level 48 and ive been playing since the end of Janurary, I know a thing or two about WoW just not everything. Thanks ;)

So... This is just someone getting killed while doing the quest...

I wonder why many machinima videos are laggy and don't show the whole scene because it is choppy. The music is continuous, so you know it has to be the recording process on the video end, but there must ways to avoid this. is fraps or another program to blame?
Guernia Apr 27th 2007 1:25PM
Holy crap, I soloed the Feralas chicken quest at 44 on my fire-spec mage. AoE spec does help, but that mage just plain *sucks*. Steering with the keyboard, not Arcane Explosion spam-kiting, WAY too many pauses between casts... True, I did need to burn Evocation and 2 runecloth bandages between the various spawns, but I consider that to be appropriate for a quest of that difficulty.
I fully support the Learn2Play comments above.
Matthew Apr 27th 2007 1:25PM
Fraps can typically take up to 50% of the processing power of a computer to record real-time video, depending on the computer, so it typically does result in a big of choppiness. A better way would be to go from a scan converter into a digital video recorder or something, but that would be fairly expensive.
Guernia Apr 27th 2007 1:26PM
@13, you have to abandon the failed quest before you can retry it.
singlemalt Apr 27th 2007 1:44PM
Easy solution - L2mage.
