We want Children's Week!

Blizzard has quietly disabled the upcoming Children's Week holiday. There was a brief announcement in the EU forums saying the event would be disabled until after the 2.1 patch and on the US site the holiday's date has simply been changed to "TBD." In the past the week-long event's start has varied from the 1st of May to the 9th of May, so if 2.1 is released soon perhaps it won't be pushed back very far. Now my question is... what the heck does Children's week have to do with the patch? Should we expect something new and different this year or is there just some technical issue with deploying a patch during the middle of a special event the Blizzard team is trying to avoid?
[Thanks to all who sent in tips on this one!]

Hopeful version: They will be adding in an extra quest; perhaps one where you take them to a lowbie area and run them through a race's starting quests.
Realistic version: There will be a technical issue.
Anti-Fun version: Too many complaints of people taking kids into raids and dungeons as non-combatant pets. Despite the fact that you can't attack or kill them.
Fun version: They are adding the ability to alter the children depending on your own status ailments. If you're sheeped, they're lambed. You wear a full tier set, and they'll wear a miniature version. You take a drink... well, maybe not.

Adding to the other hopes: they had the event to the blood elf and dranei starting areas becuase I totally want my own pet draenei ( Who would have though little squidfaced blue kids could be so adorable?) Certainly the lore supports there being lots of orphans, at least on the dranei side. Blood elf orphans are probably such punks they are living some kind of Dickensien existence in silvermoon city in a gang of pickpockets.

I think that they are probably fixing the bug that's come with every holiday (the one that's locked out many of the people who did the event last year) and adding on stuff for the BE and Draenei children.
I've noticed in the files in the 2.1 patch from the PTR that there are some new vanity-pets. A baby elekk, a baby hawkstrider (which looks really...awkward, I guess would be the suitable word), and a baby moth. Also saw a bear cub, though I don't know how long that has been in the files.

Bear cub? Is that the same model as the Panda Cub from the collector's edition?
I'd love a baby Elekk. Although they're probably faction specific :(

It does look a bit similar. However, it doesn't have a skin (just a reflective cover), so I think it's new.

I really hope it returns, with everything fixed. I love Children's Week! Heck, being able to have a little orc child during that time was one of only two reasons I rolled a Horde character at all! :)

Wouldn't a baby moth be... a caterpillar? Oh, well, I'll just hope there's a baby Elekk - or a baby bear!

Oh no, people might not get their pet turtles this year!
Useless event except for getting free child labor.

@3. Us Blood Elves don't leave Orphans to their fate. They either become Wretched, or they become Blood Elves. There is no inbetween.

#9: hah, true, I hadn't thought about that. Now that I think about it, it might be the moth vanity pet that's ingame already. I never did get a good look at it (though the one I'm looking at has no skin options, just a blank white one).

@11--I couldn't agree more. There are no Blood Elf orphans roaming the streets because we take care of them. They are well clothed, fed and educated so that they are ready to become contributing citizens when the Sin'dorei are restored to their rightful place at the head of all races.

Um wow I had no idea that some players felt so strongly about state of blood elf orphans.
