2.1 PTR changes to PvP gems, Mongoose

Curse has the news that the 2.1 PTR has been updated, and the biggest change is that
PvP epic gems have had their honor costs reduced, so if you're saving up points for an Inscribed Ornate Topaz, you'll be happy to hear that it now only costs 10k honor points (and the disappointment of only one of your children when you're too busy PvPing to go play catch with them in this Spring weather).
And finally, the Mongoose enchant (which adds a chance-on-hit agility and attack speed buff) has had its look changed. Video of the new, really strange, spiky look after the jump. The old one was apparently too glowsticky. RAVE ON!
Update: Apparently word from Eyonix on the forums is that the changes will be reverted before 2.1 goes live (thanks, Greg!)

For "nice buff to the stats on each piece," read "8 useless int on each piece, lol warlocks gtfo."

AHEM
MAGE ARMOR?
/scoff
That's clearly WARLOCK armor.
Sylythn May 1st 2007 1:53PM
*cough* Mage/Warlock Tailoring armor *cough*
Most locks go with FSW, and there's alot of QQing on the forums. I personally don't see the big deal, 20-30 points of +dmg when spread out across DoTs with the percentage reduction, really isn't much - and I always felt the stats were just a bit low.

But seriously - the crux of the complaints from the tailoring community is two-fold. First, this nerf comes almost four months after the release of the expansion. People have put a great deal of time and effort into making these sets. Second, the sets are now sidegrades to quested blues and 5man drops, instead of epics that will last a user into tier 5 content.
Would I and thousands of others have put the work and gold into making sets that are now entirely unimpressive? I doubt it. It's a bait-and-switch, and it's enough to make me seriously consider moving on from this game.
Freak May 1st 2007 1:59PM
There is a lot of QQing, because most of us FSW-wearing 'locks don't care for +int. If they made even some of it +sta, I for one wouldn't mind this. As it stands though, it's an obvious nerf for affliction locks, even if a small one.
Plus, my e-peen will shrivel when my unbuffed +shadow damage drops below 1100...how am I supposed to deal with that?
Delilah May 1st 2007 2:01PM
Mage or warlock (or shadow priest) - 8 int is still a useless "buff" when exchanged for +dmg. If I wanted more int instead of more damage, I wouldn't be wearing this set in the first place.
As a frost mage, it's already hard enough for me to be competitive with the other dpsers in my guild. Just....sigh. Losing +34 dmg may not seem like the biggest nerf in the world, but since frost has to stack so much more damage due to the coefficients, it's just another little turn of the knife. And yeah, I know I get 5% more damage from talents in the next patch, but to spec into it I have to give up a lot of points in arcane that help with my mana regen....Basically, with this nerf to the frozen shadoweave set, I have to spec for less mana efficiency to maintain the same level of damage I'm doing now. Awesome. I've been deep frost spec since I first figured out what the talent trees were, but this may finally push me fire.
Yes, I know, QQ.
Renagade242 May 1st 2007 2:01PM
SPIKEYS!!! YES! Now my rogue can... um. Have a weapon that looks like a purple porcupine protrudes from his limbs per proc?
Jimbo May 1st 2007 2:01PM
It's actually a very bad nerf, especially considering the time and gold invested to make them. Buffing the Int is meaningless... DPS classes like DPS stats. Really a slap in the face if it goes live.
Andrew May 1st 2007 2:01PM
This reminds of of the old level 60 epic tailoring plans for robes.
Tons of mats, not so great when compared to early raid gear.
The nerf just rolls things back to that level.
RAID OR GTFO is Blizzards attitude towards its players.
Paradoxic May 1st 2007 2:05PM
A lot of people aren't going to be happy, myself included.
Once again Blizz resorts to nerfing good stuff instead of buffing the bad stuff.
I also see this is yet another affront to the poor Shadowpriests. Just figures that as soon as an "off-spec" is raid viable it would be nerfed into submission. Mabye Blizz thinks nerfing Shadow will force players to go back to Holy... Haha, good luck with that balancing act... Priests haven't had the best treatement lately... oh well, what can you do but QQ? :/
after all... nothing we can do, because:
So falls the hand of Blizzard... So falls the hand of God.
Doodzin May 1st 2007 2:12PM
Not that it helps that much at all, but doesn't higher int translate into higher spell crit chance so that, over time, the difference in damage will not equal the full 34?
Freak May 1st 2007 2:17PM
@11: Yes...but even using one o' them fancy DPS calculators, it's still a net nerf. Affliction warlocks especially (most of whom went tailoring in TBC for the sole reason of getting this set) don't rely on crit much at all, since our DoT's don't crit.
bliSSter May 1st 2007 2:20PM
The true weaksauce of this nerf is buried under the fact that the tiered sets for mages (and hunters, or fill-in-other-class-here), are utter crap. There's a single set for mages that's a friggin' [Swiss Army Knife of Mediocre], instead of having a choice of sets that are specifically oriented towards particular talent specs. Many other classes have choices that play better with their particular talents. If the tiered gear didn't suck so many flavors of ass, there wouldn't be a need to pass it over for crafted gear...and consequently, no need for a nerf.
I'm going to have to agree with the above poster's comments regarding them being a side-grade over dropped blues. With the cooldown timers on cloth, and the fact that the gear is BoP, there's no reason other than complete and utter laziness on the dev's part for this one.
Hey Blizz, GTFO your collective ass and make more diverse and better tier 4, 5, and 6 gear so people aren't passing it over for crafted items.
They can't really afford to keep pissing off their customer base with foolish decisions like this one. They've already pissed plenty of people off with the on-again/off-again style of talent nerfs touching abilities that have been in the game since release... This is just a really bad call.
Greg May 1st 2007 2:21PM
In any case, the tailoring nerf is being reverted. I guess someone out there is listening after all.

ahh, I can't read wow forums at work, what do you mean it's being reverted? this nerf isn't going to happen?
plz plz plz say it's so.
My shadowpriest just completed his full set. :(
Smutcakes May 1st 2007 2:30PM
"tweaked a bit"? "buffed the stats? "mage armor"?
bullshit.
-34 DMG and +24 INT is a bad deal anyway. more so for warlocks. 19% less damage on a set which has you grind a profession to 375 and farm for fucking ever is nothing but a slap in the face.
Anyway, nice to see that "buffing T sets" is being done by nerfing crafted items.
The ineptitude of Blizzards designers to release an even somewhat balanced game never fails to astound me.
Greg May 1st 2007 2:35PM
@15 - The text of Eyonix's post on the general forum follows:
The changes players have noticed on the public test realms concerning select tailor-crafted items, such as the Spellfire set, will be reverted before the patch is live on production realms.
This means your item sets will remain just as they are now.
Also note, to address the feedback we've been reading this morning concerning the idea of simply “buffing tier 4 and 5 equivalent slots”, the reason we do not is because improving those 3 slots for tier 4 and 5 would force a change to all other tier 4 and 5 items as well (weapons, melee sets, everything).
Halvar May 1st 2007 2:38PM
@14 Thank God............I was about cry with looking at all the time, money, and farming I did to get this set.

Maybe EVERYTHING needs a fix... but its 2 much work for them so they just fuckin try to nerf shit thats right... GG Blizzard... Fuckin tards. Glad they're not going thru with the tailoring nerfs tho.
FadedReality May 1st 2007 5:08PM
I was upset about the tailoring nerfs too... but ffs it's their game if you don't like what they're doing with it, stop playing.
