The challenge of twinking out a healer
When you think of PvP twinks, you usually think of DPS. People usually twink rogues, hunters, or sometimes warriors (even though at level 19, where people usually twink toons, there's not much difference between a fury and a prot warrior). The idea, of course, is to see how much damage you can push out at the lower levels (usually by finding early blues and upping stats like strength and agility with extra enchants). But Lane over on livejournal has another plan: she wants to twink out a healer. It's an interesting thought, but it seems a lot harder than a normal twink. For one thing, most healing classes don't really come into their own until you get the higher level talents involved; at 20, most of them don't have a lot to play around with. And healing gear isn't as easily found at the lower levels-- I'm sure there's a few +healing pieces around at 40, but I can only find three at level 20 (and those aren't anything to write home about). Sure, you could still twink it, just by maxing out intellect or buffing out on armor or stamina (come to think of it, a paladin with a ton of armor and stamina would be hilarious to play as a healer in 10-19 WSG), but you don't have nearly as many options as the DPS twinks.
As for classes, most priests would get eaten up, especially if you're playing with other twinks. As a few people point out on the LJ thread, both shaman and druid don't really have all their worthwhile abilities until later in the game (a shaman will have ghost wolf, but if you're seriously healing, you shouldn't be in that form much anyway). A paladin would probably be the best (because a healer in mail is always fun), but it would be tough, too -- you wouldn't have that bubble yet (not quite true-- see update).
Have you ever twinked a healer or heard of anyone who did it well? A good healer is already a pretty rare thing to find in BGs, so if nothing else, it might be fun to forge a new playstyle as a healer twink.
Update: That's what I get for never playing a paladin-- they do have a bubble at level 18. (Thanks, cluelessnoob).

It would be the most boring thing in the world.

i disagree, i was one of the more powerful toons, and carried the flags in WSG,
Bubble is more powerful in lower levels, and with dispel magic trinkets and speed potions.
almost impossible to stop in many instances.
check armory, check WSG faction rep (hardest to level)
after level 50 things started to change.
defences were overtaken by offence, making me less 'viable'
off to AV to be main healer

I've done a lvl 19 twink priest and i still have her. It was fun with other twinks on your side. I like to call it the "priest tank". All the dps see u and attack! you heal yourself as they get owned my your loyal friends

When does a priest get psycic scream? (aka fear bomb)

I have a twinked lvl 39 priest, although he is all shadow. Atm he has 207 shadow dmg, could be a bit more but I havent gotten around to the spell thread yet. As far as +healing I have 183 which isnt too bad. Staying alive is easy as long as I have mana (3200 unbuffed) but when I run out its over.
kamafnkazi May 1st 2007 11:45AM
@ #3 im pretty sure its 20, could be wrong though, it's been awhile since I was lvled

I play a 19 NE priest in WSG. We can fear 2 at a time every 30 seconds, and spam that constantly.
I use Gravestone Scepter for DPS:

I throw Fortitude on everyone that I can, and shield bubbles when I'm protecting the flag runner.
I also use the Power word: Pain DoT to add a little dps here and there.
Yeah, I'm squishy, but it's a thrill!

Ever since my Girlfriend and RL buddy started playing about a month or so ago I rolled a Shaman to help them out. I've only put points into Restoration, and all my gear has been healing oriented as I want to improve their gameplay by simply keeping them alive so int & spirit are the two stats I've invested in. You would be surprised that there are a number of low level + healing items also, and with it being so cheap to get the highest level mana pots available for low levels on mass, you can really kit yourself out as a nice combat healer.

Of course, as a paladin, you do have that other bubble as of level 18 ... http://thottbot.com/s5573.

So this is going to be buried behind 10 comments, but I'll leave my thoughts anyway. I wish that blizzard would give the twinks their own PVP place. Why? Because I'm an altwhore, or altaholic, whatever you'd like to call it. I love playing different characters, but I can't PVP with any of them, because my server is full of twinks. This is my punishment for being on a day 1 server, but still. The best time I ever had was when I joined a fresh server, and powered a mage to lvl 19, then I was able to really see what WSG was like. It was so much fun because everyone had about the same lvl gear and all that mattered was talent.
On Argent Dawn it's the opposite, you can't even think about WSG unless you've got tons of blue gear. And it's to the point where they even have the highest lvl enchants they can use too.
If the twinks could only fight the twinks then maybe the rest of us could enjoy some low lvl pvp again.
That's my 2c.

Intelligence!?? Surely you mean Intellect....

Ugata - that's exactly what they're working on - the battlegrounds matching system (2.1 patch?) is designed to match groups based on gear...if it works (and probably once there's been some time to tweak it) you won't be seeing twinks very often unless you're twinked out too.

I have a twinked lvl 19 holy priest, who usually acts as healer in WSG. Since, apparently, no one expects a lvl 19 priest to actually heal people, she's usually able to perform quite a few miracles before anyone notices. It's a fun challenge and much appreciated.
1645 mana and Improved Renew allows her to keep healing for quite some time while trying not to draw attention, and 652 HP is enough to survive an attack from a non-twinked player until a teammate can save her. Maxed out Divine Fury and Healing Focus certainly helps here too.
She certainly didn't take too much time and money to twink either, she's got decent gear and a few midgame enchantments, but I don't think I spent more than a few evenings and 100-120g on levelling and gearing.
For those who enjoy WSG twinking and want to try something new, I recommend rolling a holy priest. It's quite fun, very different, and people will love you for being the healer.
captintrips May 1st 2007 12:59PM
Look up Captintrips. Twink out every time I hit level -8. I have many PvP friends, even more enemies.
Mike Schramm May 1st 2007 1:02PM
Haha Durden yes I do mean intellect.

WSG 19 twink healers can be killer... tons of Mana regen and they can turn the entire tide of battle with a few nice heals. I've found Priests to be by far the best in 19 WSG and their instant-fear is great for chucking attackers off to the sides while your team grabs them off you.
Yum.
Kumar May 1st 2007 1:50PM
i have a 49 shaman that i exclusively PVP on, gear is mostly blues from mara with a couple boe blues mixed in and all the 48 rare pvp rewards. I just want to put it out there so you know where I'm coming from.
I feel that being a twinked support class makes me even more powerful than a twinked dps class, assuming gear is equal. Being level 49, gameplay is much more complicated than a level 19 bracket, but different from end-game styles in many subtle ways. If I focus my mana on supporting my teammates, restricting my dps to windfury and an occasional shock, I believe I'm much more valuable to a pvp team than a twinked DPS class.
my two cents

Ok main healing in AV is boring,
any one can spam heals on a tank i do that in karazhan at night.
The reason i like to heal in pvp every now and again it keeps you on your toes. Especially on defense when no is onl your party and you have to try to stay within 20 yards of people so you can see your health. Its a real rush keeping 5 defense up against rushing horde but when you can basicly hold the horde at SP if your good enough.
