Player ganks woman's character, gets beat up by husband
A Mexican WoW player named Bronco Carson got beat up in real life by the husband of the player he had been repeatedly ganking, as well as a few of the husband's friends. Apparently, he'd been killing the heck out of this woman's character, which is reasonable enough, although somewhat annoying. The woman started threatening Carson at some point, but hey, it's the internet, right? They don't know where he lives.Wrong! Carson seems to have decided that a good idea would be to give the woman his address and and ask "if her husband was man enough to just come meet me to settle this." Um...bad move, sir. The husband and friends came and beat him up, netting Carson two broken fingers, a fractured wrist, and a destroyed computer and entertainment center. The moral of the story: if you're going to make life hard for someone in-game, don't give them your address and taunt their husband to come fight you. You are not prepared.
Note that this story may well be fake, seeing as how there's no terribly credible source for it -- all the references to it I've been able to find trace back to this story on Fun Tech Talk. Grain of salt and all that.
P.S. Just so we're clear, beating people up isn't cool, especially when it's three against one.

I don't know much about mexico's laws. I'd like like to note, however, that if there were any legitimacy to a story such as this in the US, the husband and his friends would be subject to charges of assault & battery, destruction of property, and possibly breaking & entering. Fines and probably jail time would follow. I wouldn't be surprised to see his wife charged for making threats.
But in mexico? Who can say? Maybe they're as lawless as television would have me believe.

What a dumbass, everyone knows you give them the address of the crazy paranoid dude with all the guns who lives down the street. Why do the dirty work when someone else can?

I bet he doesn't repeatedly gank her anymore, so problem solved.
Anonymity allows players to be pretty much total turds in WoW if they choose to be, and if names and addresses were available, people would be alot more polite, just like I'm sure he will be in the future.
Beating people up isn't cool; beating people up when they deserve it, and when its the only way to handle a problem, isn't cool either, but sometimes, its a necessity, and it definitely works.

How was he communicating with her if he was ganking her? On pvp servers there is no cross faction communication?

@7
Good point.

If my name was Bronco Carson, I'd think I was pretty unstoppable, too.

Maybe they talked on a forum.

If I were him, I would gank the woman some more. If the husband were to come back, I would ambush him with a cheap shot, and a couple of kidney punches. I think it's stupid for people to take a game so seriously to beat up a human being. The woman, her husband, and friends should have lvled by killing 1000000 boars and team up and gank him. :)

"You are not prepared."
Seriously, best use of that line. Evar.

Yeah, this smells like lie.
Per #7, how were they communicating?
If you are being repeatedly ganked, just contact a GM. It is against the TOS.
Would anyone really give out their address to someone angry at you, online or otherwise?
Pritchard May 2nd 2007 2:37PM
Mexico has computers?
Freehugz May 2nd 2007 2:37PM
oooh I wish this story were true, but #7 has it, there's no way they would communicate.

Finally - demonstrable proof that video games lead to real violence!

RE: the "how could they communicate?" comment. People have more than one character. I did a "friendly run" with a Horde and my Alliance toon once. We couldn't understand each other beyond using emotes, so the Horde guy does a "/wait" (I think that was it), logs off, then back in as his Alliance alt and whispers me to say hi.
Honestly if I was of a mindset to gank someone repeatedly for kicks, I'd definitely have an alt just to whisper them and taunt them.

@11 How is getting ganked against the TOS? I play on a PvP server and I can gank someone all day if i so choose. If you dont want to get ganked then go PvE.
Meliv May 2nd 2007 2:44PM
I bet she was Alliance. Allys can't PvP (IRL and ingame) with less than 3 people
Schabrak May 2nd 2007 2:46PM
@7 There is a program named mIRC!!! You go into the channel of your server and AHA you can talk with the other faction.
Must have hurt allot thinking about this little problem!?-_-
