Ah yes, the least popular spec being survival hunter.I am a survival hunter.I also have the 31 and 41 talent point.hehe, I am not surprised at that at all. Until I specced it and really learned the point of the spec, I thought it was a stupid tree and was gimped. I still think that it needs MAJOR work(i mean, the number of people playing it should say enough), but it definetly has it's perks. I currently have a raiding spec in the SV tree and I went all the way down the tree so Ic ould max out master tactician for a little dps boost as well as have something to take the place of scatter shot, which is readiness.Readiness is retardedly useful even if it seems like a waste. It certainly should be on a shorter cooldown or perhaps lwoer in the tree, or at least give us a friggin reason to max out master tactician, cause we're certainly not doing it for DPS. Wyvern sting, despite it's selected but useful uses, is really really disappointing as a 31 talent. It's useless in raiding because mobs are immune. It has pretty limited uses in other PvE to me for a couple simple reasons.1 - Traps generall work better2 - it has a 1.5 sec cast time, so it can be difficult to get it off if the mob is close to you. you have to get distance to get it off. We're good at kiting and getting away and all that, but if you ot yourself into a situation where you have no other way of controlling a mob but wyvern sting, you are pretty much already screwed3 - the dot at the end is annoying to remove if you have to trap the stung dude4 - people aren't used to it, so chances of getting popped are high(in my exdperience at least. i hate having to tell people i have a rarely seen spec and have moves that they prolly aren't used to in a hunter) 5 - Im not sure what 5 is. Oh wait here it isIF you have readiness, you can use that get another trap ready since they work better so it puts WS pretty low on the totem of CC priority/use. Here are some good uses of wyvern sting in my limited exposure1 - using it like a castable trap. I think of it as a way to CC someone from a distance. this can be useful if a trap pops early and starts running to the priest. Sting that bitch to stop him for a bit to reset your CD's and trap him2 - I've seen it used in PvP successfully. I personally have done little PvP with a spec that has wyvern sting but I could definetly see it's uses if you have time to get the shot off. 12 sec in the arena is enough time to determine one's life or death. I bet Wyvern stinging the healer and getting him quiet for a bit would make that warrior go down pretty fast. 3 - Sometimes useful in grinding when I dont' feel like doing any elaborate trapping to deal with a small group of trash mobs. If you have, say 3 mobs. you can trap one, kill one, and sting the other. THe problem can be killing one before the sting wears off if you get unlucky or hwatever. But again, I would usually always prefer to pop readiness for another trap if I could but WS is not totally useless. Or you could just let one beat on your pet while you kill instead of WSing. See what im saying, it's like it does shit that other skills do, just not as good so the desire to use it for me is pretty low. 4 - I have on rare occassions shot a mob with it just for the DoT since it is more powerful than serpent stingWhat I would like to see with wyvern sting1 - Insta cast for usability. If you don't make scatter shot trainable, something as inherent to hunters as Imp sap to rogues which is now trainable, at least give something as an insta cast STFU-type CC that can at least put the mob on lockdown for a bit2 - Maybe a debuff instead of a DoT? It seems that they have the DoT to make trapping more difficult after using the sting since you hvae to override the DoT with scorpid sting does as not to break the trap when the DoT ticks. Further discouragement for a broken talent I suppose. That's why we have traps i guess3 - make it on a lower cooldown - I suppose a toss up considering how little I use it but if it didn't feel like a luxury or oh shit talent, we might use it?4 - Here is a novel idea. Replace it with a more useful talent. It is just so situation specific that it is often not worth the single point. At the very least, you can handle the mobs with something else in lieu of wyvern sting.
