Breakfast topic: Hard-to-find mobs

After a weekend of horrible illness, I was hoping for a quiet, relaxing time in Tanaris when I finally logged into my paladin. Instead, I spent about thirty minutes hunting for the pirate leader Caliph Scorpidsting. I don't know if this guy randomly despawns, paths a wide area, or just blends in exceptionally well with the crowd, but he's very difficult to find and kill. And he's not the only one. Other notably annoying to find mobs include:
- The Defias Messenger, who roams all along Westfall for the Alliance. If you're Horde and want to be a jerk, camp this mob -- he's part of an important Alli quest chain.
- Rexxar, the Champion of the Horde. You don't have to kill him, but you'll have to find and talk to him many, many times for the Horde Onyxia chain quest. And he paths through two zones. Woo.
- The Assassin and Mankrik's Wife: The bodies of these dead quest mobs are so difficult to locate for many Hordies that they've become running joke in Hellfire Peninsula and the Barrens, respectively.
- Sin'Dall, Tethis and Bhag'thera: These beasts are part of the Nesingwary's hunt quest line in Stranglethorn Vale. Sin'Dall and Tethis have fairly static positions, but are difficult to find if you're doing the quest for the first time (Sin'Dall is on a hill and Tethis is by the coast.) Bhag'thera ... well, like many cats, Bhag'thera seems to disappear a lot for no reason at all.
What mobs have you had to search hard to find?

I don't remember what the mob's name is, but it's an elite stone elemental in Thousand Needles. When I finally found it, the server went down. Then I had to search for half an hour before I could find it again.
I hate roaming mobs.

Fozruk in Arathi or Durn the Hungerer (while he may walk around and around in a circle, I always seem to take hours to locate the bugger !)

Pretty completely list.
There's also that messenger that paths along the entire road that runs through Arathi and well into Hillsbrad. I've spent so much time hunting that fooker down!
Nethelraku, that big netherdrake really pisses me off too.

Rexxar has thankfully been replaced. Rexxar is now in Thunderlord Stronghold in Blade's Edge Mountains. His replacement for the Onyxia quest stands in one spot, in Shadowprey Village. I remember helping more than one player look for ol' Rex...

Rexxar is no longer hard to find. He moved to Blade's Edge Mountains, and the new mob that takes his place is permanently stationed in Shadowprey Village.

The defias messenger isnt too bad as he has an easy to find start point.
The pain in the arse one is the one the messenger who patrols between taren mill and (Something like) go'shek farm. not only does he patrol an insane amount of land (Two zones as well) he has four adds. real bugger to kill!

There are wandering treants you have to kill in Feralas for the Natural Materials quest and the muisek quest...a total pain. I found one, then killed it, and waited there for almost 20 minutes until another one came along....

- A few of the mobs or npcs you have to find in the whole Pendant of Myzrael/Princess Trapped chain.
- Forsaken courier. You always find that band roaming when you don't want them but the minute you need to get the documents, well, you wait forever.
-Mage summoner quest - would never have found the mob without thottbot.
- Any that are in a cave/tower. Nothing like a dot taunting you as you try to figure out just what level the mob/npc/dead npc is on.

Hate to say but Caliph Scorpidsting is one of the easiest mobs to find. If you had any difficulty, someone probably just killed him.
Bhag'thera can be a pain, and the funny thing for me with Sin D'all was I saw a little hill and thought "maybe I can get a good view from up there...". Of course, he was waiting for me at the top with a grin.
You know what NPCs I have the worst time finding? The flight masters. Some of them are obvious, but I know my first time in Booty Bay and Nethergard and the like I always wander around town wondering how someone with a green exclamation above there head can be so sneaky.

Though I've had the same problems with most of the mobs you mentioned in the post, I've started to make a simple /target macro for any named mob I have to find as part of a quest immediately upon recieving it.
Saves a lot of time!

Anaya Dawnrunner at Ameth' Aran in Darkshore was one of the hardest mobs to find for me. She's a part of a quest chain there.

The incendosaurs for the Thorium Brotherhood quest. I got so frustrated trying to find them I almost threw my keyboard out the window. GGGGGrrrrrrr
:(

After doing epics in everquest no mob at all is even close to annoying to find/camp in WoW, its one of my favorite aspects of the game. =)
@7 get the InFlight Addon it prepopulates your world and mini map with the flight master icons so you can find em as soon as you enter a zone.

I just hate the Defias Messenger. Of course, the easiest way to find him is stand in the centre of Moonbrook and wait, as he spawns right there.
Of course, you spend most of your time getting raped by the multiple defias mobs there as well...

Brrr. Defias. Brrr.
khaosworks May 3rd 2007 9:26AM
There's one which was my own stupid fault. There was that quest to get Moonkin feathers in the Hinterlands? I kept killing Moonkin for over an hour, and no drops. Until I realized that the feathers don't drop from the mobs, they're scattered over the ground. D'oh!
FireStar May 3rd 2007 9:32AM
Not all mobs are supposed to be easy to find. If you want to find crocodile dundee to get a quest from him i dont think he'd be easy to find. What kinda hunter sits in one place all the time?
monkeyhouse May 3rd 2007 9:55AM
my hunter had a nightmare trying to find Humar and Rak'Shiri. they are not needed for quests so i am not sure if they count here but rare spawns for pets are a real pain.
especially Humar - i guess because he is so unique a such a low level.

Oh and, not difficult to find, but difficult to get to - the guy who gives you quests that sits in one of the "skull eye sockets" above the enterance to Wailing Caverns - unless there's an easier way, it took me a while to figure out exactly where to jump/fall to get to him....
