Hellfire at level 55
A week or so ago, a friendly lock in our guild summoned me out to Honor Hold to train in Enchanting. It appears to be bothering people that this is possible, that we are somehow abusing the system. I don't feel that I am, and in fact I was able to summon an entire group ranging from 51-55 for some Outland fun. We killed boars, a lot of them, and enjoyed ourselves immensely. It's interesting to note that although I cannot pass through into Outland, I am able to go through the Dark Portal into Azeroth. To me this is the sign that what I am doing is not against the design of the game. It's more like that shortcut to UBRS, built into the game for those resourceful enough to find it.
I have yet to be able to get a quest, but I get plenty of looks from other players. Most are supportive, and many have helped me survive those times when I managed to attract too much attention from the wandering wildlife. Some have watched me die and laughed at my corpse. It matters not. What matters is that I can level my Tailoring and Enchanting again, I can use all that Netherweave I have been gathering, and I am having the time of my life. I have rediscovered the joys of grinding. I find it a better use of my time grinding the levels until 58 in an environment where the exp gain is so high. It sure beats Silithus and those darn Dredge Crushers.

With this in mind, does anyone go to Silithus anymore? Aside from STV, I think Silithus is my most hated zone.

Insert oh-so-common expression here:
"Anybody who pays $15 a month is free to do whatever he/she wants."

What shortcut to UBRS?

As a Hunter BM, much like the new BRK, except I'm with a BRA (Big Red Albator, which is how I named the owl Gutripper from Nagrand). Since I dinged 70, Im not just staying in Outlands, im also farming my gold for my Epic flyer in the olds lands lol... Its another experience, since most people farm Primals and stuff like this. With the pet screech ability, it retains aggro from a indefinite number of mobs. Basically, I pull about 30 spider of Silithus in a pak, they're all firmly aggroed to Albator, then i begin DPSing to bring them all down. Mats for old recipes and old leather still sells very well, since peoples are leveling their skills, and sometime dont want to comeback to silithus to get Meat, leather ,etc needed to level to 300 skill. Its where my market share is ... XD

I went to Outland at 55 w/my Hunter, and while I could not get any quests until 58, leveling was so, so easy. Kills in Outland give roughly double the xp of kills of the same level in Azeroth, and it was actually faster to just farm in Hellfire for xp than it was to run all over Azeroth trying to complete quests.

Hellfire Peninsula is a great way to level up those under 58. We ported a level 52 priest over there and with the South Park school of leveling (killing boars until you reach those uber levels) she's already lvl 55. Best part is, I've maxed out my skinning by helping her.

@2 Justin:
She is referring to the balcony shortcut. When you enter Blackrock Mountain, head up the small rock ramp to the chain and turn left, going up the chain. It will drop you on to a rock ledge, from which you can jump out to the balcony and avoid having to fight through about 10 or so Orcs to reach the zone entrance.

When a friend of mine was leveling up his Draenei shaman, we portaled him to the outlands at level 31 (so he could set his hearth in Shatt and use that for quicker travel between certain areas of the world). We escorted him all the way to Honor Hold and it was hilarious to see how many people stopped what they were doing and just followed behind him staring.

I summoned my 43 warrior friend (which is his first character in the game) to honor hold. A:To see how big his aggro circle was (It was pretty damn big). B:To see if he could get some decent xp (He was getting better xp in the old lands. C: He wanted to see outland. and D: We were all pretty bored.....HEHEHE and like Zinger said, Do what you want.

Around level 45, I got a portal to Shattrath City, where I set my home. I used it to quickly transport from, say, Un'goro to Stormwind. It was terrific. Around level 56 (Shadow Priest), I wanted to get my tailoring above 300. I flew out to Honor Hold (did a naked corpse run there at level 45). I decided to go outside of the city walls and see what I could do. I was surprised to see the staggering amount of XP I was getting from killing these level 58 boars and orcs. It was easily double what I was getting from same level mobs in the Plaguelands. I went from 56 to 58 grinding on the mobs around Honor Hold in record time, collecting several awesome "of the invoker" items.
As soon as you can get out there and start killing mobs, the better. Enjoy the XP!

Blizz has stated that the level restriction on the portal was only there to reduce the amount of load on the server when BC came out not that you cannot be there. I cannt find the offical post, sorry, so you will have to take me at my word. You are not doing anything wrong per blizzard.

i'm planning to get ported to shat to set my hearthstone....

We summon/mage portal low level guildies to outlands for our guild meetings and help guide them to flight paths so that when they are ready for outlands they are pretty much set with area's discovered.

I'll repeat, What UBRS shortcut?
The balcony shortcut is a shortcut to UBRS & LBRS. If there is someway to bypass the locked door to UBRS without the key (which i have on one of my toons), what is it?
Lori May 3rd 2007 2:41PM
lol I didn't know there was a long cut to UBERS.
Bandyn May 3rd 2007 2:42PM
Actually, blue has confirmed that it is NOT a violation of anything to get summoned to Outland before 58. They've stated that the level limit on the Dark Portal was just intended to avoid overcrowding after the launch.
They've also stated they will eventually remove the level limit on the portal.

Starting on a new server, I scrounged up enough gold to buy a port for myself and my spouse to Shattrath at around level 10. Setting our hearth there allows us to drop back down to any major world city easily. That and I earned a couple thousand XP just venturing outside the walls far enough to pick up map zones. When I hit 50's, I just might roll a corpse run to HFP and start in on those boars and fel orcs. No sense in wasting the beautifully luscious amounts of boosted XP from outlands mobs.

Amanda, you mentioned some poeple get angry at lower level players in Outlands. Why would they be mad? Just curious.
mark May 3rd 2007 3:01PM
there's nothing quite like taking a 49 twink priest with a full xp bar to blow to halaa on bombing runs
