Breakfast topic: Can I have your stuff?
Let's face it, one day we're all going to stop playing World of Warcraft. Sure, maybe that day is later for some of us than others (the phrase "pry it out of my cold, dead hands" comes to mind), but whether it's to a new game, a new relationship, or any of a multitude of reasons, our time with WoW will come to a close.
What I'm curious about is what you all plan on doing when you go. Will you give away all your hard earned loot, or maybe even your account? Will you make a video of removing all your gear and deleting your toon? Will you just let it expire and sit on a shelf somewhere?
I've seen people in my guild leave the game before, but more often than not they come back to it after a few months. I've never actually known anyone to do anything shocking, or give away large sums of gold. Well, there was that one guildie near the end of beta who gave me 20g, but that doesn't count.
Share your personal vision of what you want to happen when you leave WoW, and any stories you may have of people who've left the game and what they did, in the comments below.

Ever since I rolled horde, I have been fraps'ing everything fun, interesting, or just plain wierd that has happened to me in WoW. I also have screenshots from my early alliance days (ah, the foolish noob that I was). Rather than make a video of deleting all of my epix, I think I would compile some sort of anthology of my WoW days. I would go on one last raid, fight in one last battleground, and maybe do something crazy like raid ironforge. Then I would give my characters to my brother, or, if he doesn't want them, my cousin.
However, I don't see myself leaving WoW anytime in the forseeable future.

I'd just stop my payments.
No matter how much I feel that I need to leave wow one day, due to "some sort of happening" there could be "some sort of happening" a 6-8 weeks later, or perhaps a year later, that would bring me back to WoW.
And I might as well have a fully leveled up character, as I don't want to level up a new one again.

I'll likely keep my stuff. I mean, I still have millions of credits on my character in SWG and I'm *never* going back.

My brother and I started playing WoW around the same time. When we were in the 20s he decided that the game was entirely too time consuming and in a preventative measure opted to quit. He gave me all he had (not much, but to a noob a few gold is a lot) and I promptly sold his crap to fund new crap for me.
Two weeks later he was back. Didn't ask for a penny, but I gave him a few just because.
Now we're BFF questing buddies! Toolio & Gusthebus FTW!
Toolio May 4th 2007 8:42AM
P.S. I hope he quits so I can have his gold.

I've not thought of quitting, but I've been the recipient.
In Barrens chat, playing a lvl 7 hunter, I heard someone announce they were quitting the game forever, and would give all their stuff to the first person to write a haiku disproving the existence of god. Falling back on my junior high school english (I knew this would come in handy) I wrote a quice poem.
Net result? About 300g (I gave 30g to the second place poem, who came in just after me), and a pile of blue items that were of no use to any of my characters. I'm keeping them in bank rather than selling them, in case I roll some new alts in the future.
Barrens chat pays off! Who would have thunk it?

Well, I'm hoping (if you see what I mean) to leave for Warhammer Online... when it eventually shows up.
But, having already given up my WoW US account when I moved to the UK (now I have a Euro account), I know what I'll do... I'll log out, uninstall and try and forget about it all :)
That said, by the time Warhammer shows up, I'll have been playing for the best part of three years, so it'll probably be time for a change. But, knowing my luck, Blizz will launch a new expansion next year and then... well... umm...

I took a break last year for an undetermined amount of time. I gave all my gold to a friend and he bought his mount with it. When I came back he helped me buy my mount. It was a good deal.

One of my RL life friends is going to Morocco for some college class this summer so he canceled his account, sold all his stuff, and gave me about 6g (he was only in the mid 20s). It was a nice surprise but it's kind of sad that he's leaving. He said he'll reinstate his WoW account when he gets back and when he does I'll be sure to help him out. Speaking of sad things, it's real sad how #6 was profiting at the expense of God. I hope your soul was worth the 300g ;)

PS- I'll be taking a few week WoW break myself when Halo 3 Beta is finally released on the 16th ;) (Buying Crackdown ftw!)

i have not quit, or known anyone who quit, but my brother started playing about 2 months after i did, so needless to say, he started at level 1 with 25g :)
i have not given away my stuff to other people before, but i have cannibalized a few alts to fund new ones

I thought I was quitting for good... I disenchanted all my gear, sold the shards, gave out around 1200 gold to guildies. Gave 200 gold to a real life friend and logged off.
I resisted WoW's allure for almost a year, until that very same real life friend convinced me to come back... I came back to a completely naked level 60 toon with no gold... quite fun gearing him back up again -_-

Either: God does not exist and your last point is moot.
Or: God exists, and 17 syllables to the contrary won't change that.

What I left the Alliance on Garona and re-rolled Horde on PvP, I sold all my sell-ables, DE'd all of my epics, passed around 300g to 500g worth of items, enchanting mats, and gold to an RL friend that is still playing on that server, and happily deleted my tier2 level 60 Resto Druid. I did the same for my level 40 hunter and my other various lowbie alts. All items and gold went to the same guy, and I've never looked back.
I suspect that I will do that same sort of thing when I finally decide to quit the game for good...which may be sooner than later.
I think it's just about time to re-roll a real life.
Mir May 4th 2007 9:31AM
I once saw a quitting guy give away 800g in a few minutes outside orgrimmar bank, 10g at a time to anyone who traded him.
@6, let's see the poem ;)

I have a friend who decided to quit the game last year. He sold his account (two 60s, all in good gear) for about $300 and bought his girlfriend a ring. We all thought that was it for him.
But then I got back into the game (I took a break for a while, incidentely I gave all my gold to a friend who then helped me buy my epic mount when I came back into the game) he decided that he wanted to play again. So he ended up contacting Blizzard to say that he forgot his account information, Blizzard gave him the account info, and he was able to get his account back. Apparently the guy he sold it to wasn't using it anymore, and if he was, tough cookies.
He ended up getting free $300 and another level 60 toon. Not bad.

Why is the pic attached to this article so frikken creepy.
spamcatcher May 4th 2007 9:58AM
It would be pretty entertaining to make a video of me DE'ing all of my epics, destroying my mounts and throwing away all of my gold and then deleting my character. Could you just imagine the cries of anyone that watched it on YouTube?
I would honestly probably not do that though. If I were to quit playing I'd probably just leave the character in case I ever got the urge to come back. Or, if I were really ditching the game I would first try to sell the account for cash, if that didn't work I'd DE all of my stuff and give it all to any real life friends still playing - barring that, I might just send everything to the guild bank.

Your friend sucks. He stole $300.
