Reader UI: Sewell
While I was hoping to see a submission from Chronnick, based on last week's comments, that has yet to come. Instead, we get a very nice treat indeed. You want video? You want pictures? You want to be able to download the UI you see here? Then look no further than Sewell's UI, kindly submitted here for your enjoyment:
My UI has been tweaked to perfection over the course of a couple months. I love the clean design and functional layout.
Here is a quick rundown of some of the major components:ag_UnitFrames - replaces self and target bars
XArt - allows the use of background images
Sewell XArt pack - my customized images
Baggins - bag replacement
simpleMiniMap
Bongos
Chatmod
Cryolosis Revived
Fubar
Grid - useful in groups and battlegrounds
I am including links to vids of it in action as well as the UI package hosted at wowinterface.com.

So there you have it, Sewell's UI in all its glory. Now that you've seen it, and maybe even tried it out, what do you think? Share your comments below, and please send in your own UI for us to post here. For your best chances at an early appearance, please include 2-3 images, a good writeup of what makes your UI special, and a list of mods/changes you've made. Take all that, toss it in an email, and send to "readerui at gmail dot com" right away!

Wow i love this UI!
The only problem is i know nothing on mods and even after downloading this it's just not near the same, and seems to have a ton of extra stuff not on yours.
My biggest question is how did you get it to look like that with the over-emphasized buttons and dual chat windows?
Chronnick May 7th 2007 10:39PM
OMG I love it!
I love how clean and crisp everything looks.
I had just downloaded Sewell's Xart textures, so maybe my eventually Reader UI will be showing that off.
Also I didn't know how to submit...
Next week, I swear.
Tetelestia May 7th 2007 11:35PM
That's really good looking, I may give this a shot.
Baluki May 8th 2007 1:14AM
Wow, looks almost exactly like the last three that were posted.
And why do people think that having all your buttons bunched up in the middle of your screen like that is a good idea? It must really get in the way when you're trying to loot.

I was going to consider submitting my mage UI until I saw this one. Sewell, yours blows mine out of the water. The only thing missing that I would use is Cryolysis, but you seem to have compensated for it with well organized and easily clickable buttons.
Chives May 8th 2007 7:43AM
Euuurgh! You do have cryolysis! This must be the perfect UI!
Coma May 8th 2007 8:36AM
@3, they have it since it works for them! Now stfu and go back to the official forums you nubtard.

This is a great UI the only thing I can't figure out is how to move the casting bar! it's stuck in the middle of my action buttons! =)

@Chronnick - Can't wait to see your layout with my Xart textures... I am working on some that are slimmer and also some that are XL so that people have a bunch of different options.

@6 amen
@7 type in /ecb - on each of the tabs, check show border - move it where you want it with your mouse - uncheck show border
Thanks for comments. If you have any suggestions on how to make it better, I welcome them.

i dont think i'll ever understand the appeal of humdrum races like humans and elves and such
Sewell May 8th 2007 10:19AM
@9 this is a **UI** discussion, don't you have somewhere else to go and -attempt- to be superior while at the same time missing the point and not contributing anything worthwhile? No one sat with you at lunch in high school did they...

It's easy to tell that you're using ClearFont2, mind telling me what set up you have on it for font/colors?I'm quite happy with my current UI but I'd like to get my client font much like yours.
Thanks =)

Some aspects I like, some not so much. There is a lot in this UI that could still be done to make things "clean."
For the most part there is just way to much information on screen at all times. Especially for a mage there is just no good reason that I need to see numbers on everyone's health and mana bars at all times. I also don't need to see how many seconds there are on buffs that still have 29 minutes left to go (all this is just a lot of noise).
The top bar is just more noise. If I am fighting do I really need a constant reminder of how much gold I have, along with other little worthless tidbits? The top bar is just a re parse of where existing things were in the old UI for the most part, only now they take up more screen real estate. The square map is not as useful as a radius based map, as all your abilities work on a radius. Also, too many mods use the radial map for their buttons. I just can't see any reason to make a square other than trying to make things complicated (style over substance) and make it less compatible with other mods.
I do quite like the chat area treatments and the icon placement. It is a nice compromise for legibility of chat at all times vs space taken up.
A lot of the icons below could be hidden. We really need somebody to make a "buff" or "rarely needed" bar that you can press a key and it appears, let go and it dissapears. That would get rid of about 1/3rd the icons in this UI so you only see them when needed.
I really want to see someone take a stab at some truly minimal low noise UI design one of these days.
In my opinion this UI is OK but really all it did was make everything square and add more useless information than there was before, which does not equal "clean."
Whut May 8th 2007 10:51AM
I also didn't know how to move the casting bar.
Great UI, WoW runs faster with this UI then with my last one.
And good job Suwell with the feedback.
Joey Martinez May 8th 2007 10:55AM
Oh, how do I turn off the red aura when I get aggro?
Forgot to ask that.
Grant May 8th 2007 11:39AM
damn, thats clean.
Coma May 8th 2007 11:18AM
Actually this UI is very nice imo. I would recommend that you use SCT w/Damage instead of the default combat log to clear more space if you wanted to too. And the info bar at the top can be made as a show on mouseover if someone wanted to. And for the person complaining about a mage knowing party members health/mana, you must be a clueless as far as raiding, Arena or Heroics are concerned. I personally would make the frames a lot smaller but that is personal preference.
Sewell May 8th 2007 11:22AM
@11 - Thank you for your constructive criticism. This is actually really helpful because I am working through other requests for minimalist versions of my UI.
@12 - I believe it's called Calibriv1 and it's included in the ClearFont2 package.
@13 - Glad you like!
@14 - It's two mods, auf_Banzai and BanzaiAlert. Just disable them in the addons menu.
Didymus May 8th 2007 4:36PM
normally i loathe other people ui's...but that is a really nice interface.
@3 - i fail to see how those buttons are going to get in the way of anyone looting. you fail.
Mat May 8th 2007 12:32PM
I'll have to check out ag_UnitFrames, it looks nice here.
It's always interesting seeing the different ways that people use bongos... I use it too, but in a much different fashion (drood switching, key binding, etc).
Nice work, hopefully 2.1 won't give you too much misery in regards to compatibility.
