IRC Q&A with the devs at Stratics
A week from today, WoW Stratics will host a live IRC question and answer session with Blizzard developers Tom Chilton (Kalgan, pictured) and Jeff Kaplan (Tigole). Kalgan and Tigole are the WoW lead designers in charge of game systems and balance, and world design, respectively. The chat will last an hour and start at 3:00 PM PST on Tuesday, May 15. Stratics will be collecting questions for 48 hours before the chat and screening them ahead of time; no questions will be fielded during the chat. If you ask me, that somewhat defeats the purpose of a live chat, but I'm not complaining; it's nice to get any insight from the designers. And I can understand why they'd do it this way; the amount of shouting that would go on during a live Q&A would probably prevent very much communication from going on.Only a few people (presumably server ops and the developers) will have voicing in the main channel, but there will be a separate channel available on the same server for simultaneous discussion. And if you can't make it, Stratics will almost certainly put a log up on their server. All the IRC details, as well as instructions on how to submit a question, are on Stratics' site. I will also be in attendance at the chat, and I'll be live-blogging it for WoW Insider, so you'll be able to tune in here next Tuesday for live updates. But until then, what would you like to ask the developers?

Here's my question:
Why is there such a dearth of gear for certain class/spec combos, such as Balance Druids and Retribution Paladins? By any comparison, there is far less loot available for those specs than for others, such as melee DPS leather and mail, tanking plate, and cloth for both healers and casters.

One could argue that this sort of "ask your questions, get a delayed response, with no feedback" is exactly what the forums are for.
Other than class whining, middle fingers and quit threats, of course.

Yeah I won't expect much from this, they have shown multiple times that they won't answer the hard questions with a reasonable answer or without song & dance. It's like three card monty with these guys.
Don't look behind the curtain!!

My question: how much dick did you guys have to suck to get where you're at? Because you obviously know nothing about game design or balance.
...I feel my question wouldn't be asked for some reason...

I fear the majority if not all of the questions will be of a fanboyish nature rather than critical. Developer interaction in the past made clear that they do not like to admit errors even when the standard excuse is "it was not working like we intended". They really seem to have major issues to actually doing things the way they intend.

i would frickin love it if they grew a pair and answered some meaty questions - such as wtf were/are they thinking about the ret-paladin tree. That tree made me throw my toys out of the pram and quit wow (coupled with the 2.1 nerf) but i grew up ;) realised i was bored and have started leveling a mage :D.

I definitely see this being a HUGE Paladins vs. Kalgan chat... definitely.

All I would want to know is : If a paladin had a DPS tree, y can't they DPS as good as a Shaman or Druid?
I thought it was balanced...
Kastrate May 9th 2007 9:55AM
oOoOh and I forgot : Y do Paladins get the gayest looking armor in the game? I mean tier 3,4,6 look totally GAY!

Posts 1-9 are exactly why this isn't a live-live chat

@8 Well, with the patch, shaman dps should be in line with ret pallies.
