Continuing quest chains (and a new [fake] Quel'serrar!)
A few weeks ago on Phat Loot Phriday, I wrote about the Essence of Eranikus, a cool little trinket from the dragon in Sunken Temple. It's actually part of an unfinished questline-- a few steps after you get the gem from Eranikus, the questline ends in Winterspring with no explanation as to what happened with the rest of the story. Like many players (including myself), Falandan wants to know if Blizzard has any plans to finish up this series of quests.Tseric answers on the forums, and says that while Blizz is leaving their option open, the main problem with returning to unfinished quests (The Missing Diplomat/King of Stormwind is another) is that they'd have players of a high level doing low level quests. Either that, or they'd have to interrupt the normal leveling game, and you'd be doing quests in the same line with ten (or more) levels between them.
But while that's an obstacle Blizzard is considering, apparently it's not going to stop them from revisiting some old questlines: reader anobolic (thanks!) sends a link to this flickr account, with what looks like an extension of the Quel'serrar questline!
If you've got Quel'serrar now (not sure yet if Blizzard will give it back to you if you've sold or destroyed it for some reason), you'll be able to do another set of quests (rumored to involve another dragon, and maybe even an Undead Onyxia-- she's back?!?) that will either get you the Daughter of Quel'serrar (more purple for paladins), the Son of Quel'serrar (for warriors), or, if you're the first person on the server to complete the quest, Quel'serrar Reborn (and apparently you get a "dragonslayer" title with that as well). Oh, and there's also a rumor of a Quel'serrar shield to come. Very cool! Of course, all this is rumor so far-- it's not even certain that this is
Update: Commenters are casting doubt on the authenticity of the pictures. Stuff like this could be easily photoshopped, and we have no other source for it, so take the info about Quel'serrar with a grain of salt.
Update2: Commenter Leggend (thanks!) says this is proof the images were just adjusted in Photoshop. Oh well. Maybe someday Blizzard will actually finish off some of these old questlines.

That's awesome! Being a nostalgic packrat is finaly paying off!
Also, when do I get my Thunderfury Reborn? Thanks!

Annother unfinished storyline is the Uldaman/Uldum thing.

Stupid IMO. If it turns out the first one is a legendary, all it does is give the top guilds more of a gear gap between the rest of the servers because not everyone is there yet.
Granted the hardcores should have an edge on everyone else raid wise, doing "Server First and Only" only appeals to mabey .1% (if that) of a server population.
Savok May 9th 2007 2:31PM
Some lower lvl areas are STARVED of quests, not everyone is 70 and raiding either, Tseric.
Finish the god damn quest lines.
Dave May 9th 2007 2:35PM
Sounds fake.

Great... more "RAID OR GTFO" gear.
If you dont have a guild behind you, even at 70, if you're luckly enough to get the stupid book from Dire Maul (helped a guy farm for it for DAYS back before BC), a normal non-raiding player is still not going to be able to do Onyxia to get the first blade made, so you can contineu the quest chain.

"they'd have to interrupt the normal leveling game, and you'd be doing quests in the same line with ten (or more) levels between them."
So what? Remember the princess quest in Arathi? That spanned more than 10 levels...
Maedhras May 9th 2007 2:48PM
Andrew: You are right when you say WoW has more stuff for raiders, and I think they're working on that, what with 25 manners and suck. Howver, you can solo that tree boss for the book now, and you can PuG Ony if you put your heart to it. I've done her with 14, and I hear she's been downed with 4 players, so anything is possible. You just gotta try. (Unlike the cool Naxx bosses, which no matter how hard you tried, you'll never see without a good raiding guild).
Maedhras May 9th 2007 2:49PM
"25 manners and *such*"
idburns May 9th 2007 2:50PM
We did a 10-man Ony run last week and it was cake. 5-man should be too hard with the ranged DPS required for phase 2.
idburns May 9th 2007 2:51PM
Oops, that should read, "5-man should not be too hard with the ranged DPS required for phase 2."
Andrew May 9th 2007 2:55PM
While I agree that you can PuG Onyxia now (not easy, but possible), what's next? More "raid level" content to upgrade the thing? ( I can't see them doign anything less at this point...)
I do understand that the original sword was a "raid" item to begin with, but still.. they're just adding MORE raid content.
Making the 25 man raid limit has actualy made things worse IMO. Instead of 30 strong raiders and 10 so-so players to drive MC/BWL (maybe not AQ40 and Naxx), now you need 25 extremely strong raiders to get the job done, making it even harder for players to get a spot.
Look at Kara groups and how hard they are to get into, even in a raiding guild.
/sigh
/rant off
I still love WoW, but I'd like to see more of the game AND have a life too. I did the raiding thing for awhile. Much wife aggro was gained, I simply don't have time to raid anymore. Saturday morning PuGs through 5mans is all I have time for anymore.
I know I'm just a single player, but I know i'm not alone in this situation.

ATTENTION! This is fake!
Proof: I took this into photoshop and adjusted levels and contrast to show a lot of shopping evidence. Whoever did this is new to editing, and not very good at it. Take a look:

That Quel stuff sounds horribly fake imo. Blizz has shown us that they like to add new stuff instead of changing the old, so I highly, HIGHLY doubt they'll upgrade this old beast as compared to just making a new one.
As for finishing old quest lines, I gotta feel unless they involve new things, a-la that troll place yet to be opened in the BE area, they won't bother. Blizz has shown that they only care about the max level raiders, the rest of us be damned. Nevermind the fact people play alts and/or switch, and while I enjoy leveling up, I hate doing the same old, same old. And now with Outlands dancing there, instances like BRD, LBRS, UBRS, DM, MC, BWL, AQ, and even Naxx are seeing little if -any- play. Only reason why I didn't include Strat/Scholo is because people solo farm them on a regular basis.
This does make me think about the next expansion. Since they try to base the stuff they do off Warcraft lore, what more is there? IMHO, the only way to do any more expansions is to make up lore (even moreso than they already do) and probably either make new worlds or make some sort of water-based expansion (wtf is up with the Maelstrom anyway?).
But the funniest part of all? Blizzard just shot themselves in the foot. Putting out a Starcraft MMO will do nothing but cut into WoW players.
Kuarlos May 9th 2007 3:27PM
Fake.
Went there on the test realm just to be sure, no new quests. So either not being implemented in 2.1, or the more likely answer of fake.
Too bad, I would've loved the title and new tanking sword.
Lenny May 9th 2007 6:08PM
I would rather Blizzard take out the questlines that are incomplete altogether or make some logical conclusion at the place where the chain breaks. How hard is it for the refugees in Azshara to not give you the quest to save their ass from the Naga or if they do still have the quest can the response be changed to "Thanks, we may need your help in the future but we're good now." Instead of "talk to my crew they need help," and none of them even want to talk to you.
In addition to that I'd like it if Bilizzard make the original legendary items upgradeable to level 70 epics that had just a stat boost and retained all their original abilities. I am dying to visiting AQ40 and Naxx to get the Greatstaff of the Guardian but few people on my server share my desire of visiting theses places even if they have never been.
Just my 2c worth of ranting,
Lenny

I'm sad it's fake. :( The old unfinished quests are actually really annoying, more so now that I've done the game two or three times [i.e. levelled a character to cap] - what happened in that inn in Dustwallow? Where's the King? Eranikus? The Gordunni orb? What about the Netherstorm quest in the Kirin Tor village, to free the mage in the tower? That's the end of it? That's a high-level quest, Tseric.
One more reason why I wish Blizz hadn't hired that guy. Every time he opens his mouth, he kills kittens.
