Something's coming [UPDATE]

Recently the Blizzard website main page switched over to this new splashpage. It's intriguing. Since we know that something is indeed coming, this only confirms that there will actually be an announcement of some significance on May 19th.
Looking at the graphic I noticed a few things. First, The Burning Crusade is not listed separately. This leads me to believe that the announcement isn't simply an expansion, but an entirely new game. Oh, the curiosity burns within me. What will it be? Also, I see that the games Warcraft: Orcs and Humans and Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness are highlighted, but not Warcraft III or World of Warcraft. Perhaps this is a game that is centered around the first two games in the Warcraft canon. Is it World of Starcraft as the leaks have said, or is it Diablo III? Is it something else? Why can't it be the 19th already!

In searching through forum posts about this topic, I came across a fabulous summary by Colrum of Shadowsong who references some interesting tidits on Blizzplanet. They are citing recent events, such as the hiring of RTS guru Dustin Browder in 2004 and the May 2007 release of a new Starcraft novel, as evidence that we may be seeing a new Starcraft RTS rather than an MMO. Take this how you will, but it sounds very plausible to me.
Also of note, several people have said that this graphic is a countdown page. This is substantiated by the HTML source code which labels the image as "day1.jpg." Looks like we will have a countdown similar to the Worldwide Invitational website. It only remains to be seen what that question mark reveals on the 19th.

the first two are highlighted because thats what they are showing at the present moment, im sure when they update the page, they will highlight the next games. Most likely Diablo 1 and 2.
To be honest, I hope to god it isn't a world of starcraft, because that is incredibly ridiculous.

My guess is they'll keep going down the line (each day?) highlighting the games two at a time, chronologically reviewing their library until they reach the question mark.

@ #2 Pfff probably another loser posting a keylogger.

I have a feeling that the fact that blizzard own the url www.Starcraft2.com and have made it link to their main page means very little for the coming announcement. Would they really be that stupid as to give away their secret 6 days early by "accidently" associating the address with the page?
RogueJedi86 May 13th 2007 12:16PM
Starcraft2.com is registered by them just in case. Keeping things open. You don't want some random schmo taking the url and making a porn site, then Blizzard make a big public spectacle getting the name back, making it obvious to everyone that they want Starcraft2.com very badly for a reason.
Skillkoil May 13th 2007 12:18PM
I noticed that Diablo3.com is not owned by Blizzard.
Skillkoil May 13th 2007 12:19PM
# 3 - That's not a keylogger. I links you back to www.blizzard.com showing that Blizzard purchased that site.

They do not have any expansions on there, they aren't just missing TBC
Rich May 13th 2007 12:58PM
Blizz has owned the address www.starcraft2.com for a LOOONG time.

Being as it was created 8 years ago, I kind of doubt the fact it points there has anything to do with the upcoming release. It could be, but I kind of doubt it.

Looks an awful lot like a legit Blizzard site to me. :)

There's a pattern I've noticed, look, there's WWDSDWW. With each letter standing for the first letter of every game, so that would suggest that a new Diablo is coming according to the pattern, but then again the website is Starcraft2.com.

The image of the two boxshots is called "day1.jpg" expect it to change tomorrow.
Nesrior May 13th 2007 1:50PM
Well, the picture /images/splash/day1.jpg. from what i gathered, ( if you type day2 or day3 you get nothing right now, blizz is smarter than that ) it will be 7 days long showing the first 2 today, and 1 for each additional day, until Saturday the 19th. That's when we will know.

I predict a new WoW game, that takes place in the WC1 and WC2 era.
But that wouldn't work (No Night Elves, Blood Elves, Tauren, etc.)
JZ May 13th 2007 2:05PM
Does anyone really think a Diablo III is ever coming? WoW basically took all of the best ideas from that game and applied them to the richer Warcraft universe. As much as I want more Diablo, I just can't envision a sequel that isn't either WoW or WoW-lite.
Sam May 13th 2007 2:11PM
The information has already been leaked. We all know what it's going to be.
http://www.wowinsider.com/2007/05/05/world-of-starcraft-information-leaked/
If you notice, there are no StarCraft games listed at all.
@#9 - A StarCraft MMO is honestly the smartest thing that Blizzard can do IMO. I started out in the Blizzard world on StarCraft and fell in love with it. This is what us sci-fi geeks have been waiting for. I love WoW, and I play it pretty constantly, but I can guarantee that when this comes out, I will never leave my house. I'm sure that I'm not the only StarCraft fan that feels this way.

If I can pay for WOW and WoSC on the same game-time, I will be a Blizzard customer for life.
Right now, I let my WOW lapse a bit when I get a bit bored and need a break. With a WoSC, there will be no lapse, so I concur with #16, I will never leave my house.

@16 -
You're part of a minority. The vast majority of StarCraft fans want a new RTS before the inevitable StarCraft MMO.
