Blizzard's site updated to Diablo

Well when Blizzard first changed their Blizzard.com splash page, I, like many players, wondered if the game they're planning to announce on May 19th had something to do with the first two Warcraft games. But here's practically proof that that isn't the case-- they've updated their page now to Diablo (released in 1996), with a nice quote from Deckard Cain.
So it looks like we're going to get a countdown of Blizzard over the years. The announcement is coming this Saturday, and I count four days in between now and then (and four games left in the countdown), so it seems that by the time we hit WoW, Saturday will be upon us and we'll know what Blizzard is planning to do next. I'm just wondering what cool quote they'll use for WoW-- there's no way they'd do it, but "Mgurrurggugrle" would make me laugh a lot.
At any rate, speculation can shift away again from another Warcraft RTS, and back to Starcraft II or Worlds of Starcraft!

me thinks the words are more revealing than the pictures.

I don't think that adding a Diablo splash page is hinting at anything in particular just as adding the first two Warcraft games didn't mean anything significant either. But like you said, it does seem like they are doing a splash page for each of its major product in chronological order. We'll see Starcraft next of course, then D2, etc. I am guessing they'll unveil the new product at the end of this cycle. I like many others, can't wait!

I still say it's a StarCraft MMO. Just look at the invitational site.

That is clearly a Terran unit of some sort in the main background (I'm guessing a Firebat).

It would strike me, that since they are touting their different *series*...that it would be indicative of a new series beginning.

Maybe it will be a whole new thing, rather than a sequel? They're going through their history to show where they've been, and then on Saturday they'll show what's next. Just a thought, I really don't know anything about the other Blizzard games.

3. That is clearly a Terran unit of some sort in the main background (I'm guessing a Firebat).
That's a human warrior, concept art from the WarCraft 3 teaser cinematic from way back in 2001(?). The one with the human vs orc and the Infernals rain down from the sky and the two warriors realise they face something alot deadlier than each other. :)

It looks like it has the Firebat flame thrower mounted on its arm, but the body isn't right.

Is it me, or was this "news" post pretty useless?

they either revived Starcraft Ghost or make a new Starcraft RTS. By now introducing a new MMO they'd mostly just compete with themselves. World of Starcraft only makes sense once subscriber numbers for WoW start to decline.

First of all forget about WoSC. The game will come but not now. It's rather premature and the timing is not right. There is NO company in the world that would decide to hit its own its heavy weapon (WoW) when they see that competitors are trying in vain...
I agree with the above comment... it will be about a totally new concept. A concept that will be developed through time and will be the follow up of WoW and the upcoming WoSC (when it comes).
I am absolutelly sure about this and I am just curious about the concept!!! Any ideas?

Now there’s a Starcraft splash page.
I wonder what the announcement’ll be when they hit the question mark :).

He reported the Diablo splash page about 2 minutes before they changed it to StarCraft. Get on that ball Mike!
Deathlike May 15th 2007 6:22AM
C'mon, Mike. Literacy and all that.
Down at the bottom it shows what the splash page will change to in sequence, leaving a ??? for May 19th.

Just an FYI, it's been updated again to StarCraft. Next up is Diablo 2
Jeph May 15th 2007 9:03AM
I think it's painfully obvious that the announcement is Starcraft 2, if it wasn't there would be a riot at the invitational.
Now Blizzcon '07, Diablo III?

I don't understand why everyone thinks that a StarCraft MMO is a bad idea. As a matter of fact, I'm sick and tired of hearing it.
Think about it, people. First off, there are tons of StarCraft fans who are wanting a StarCraft MMO. It will not reduce the WoW subscriptions. I will actively play both. Chances are that I will play StarCraft more (if it's good, and come on, this is Blizzard we're talking about, of course it's going to rule), but I will still keep my WoW subscription so I can see how my warlock's doing in Azeroth. This is an opportunity for Blizzard to make MORE money! That's what it's all about.
And to the people that play the "lore" card. It's ridiculous! Saying that a game needs lore to be good is equivalent to saying that graphics make the game. StarCraft has an amazing storyline, even if it is short. They left a lot open. They can only expand on that in the MMO and create more!
No matter what it is (RTS, MMO, or whatever), the new StarCraft game is going to pwn all! I'm placing my bets on an MMO, and I will continue to do so for the next five days. A SC MMO would be perfect! I've been waiting for this since World of WarCraft.
