Magtheridon's head, some Black Temple loot, and more!
From the guilds Drama and Curse on the PTR comes some more Black Temple loot! This stuff is amazing, folks! Both guilds have succeeded in slaying two bosses of the Black Temple instance, and I'd like to give you a preview of the loot. How about a 100.2 DPS One-Hand Axe? Or a high-stat crossbow? Or, maybe some resto-shaman gears? Check out all the linked gear so far, here.
One of the biggest things I noticed about the few healing gears linked so far were the perma-haste casting effects on-equip. This could be a huge hint at what's to come, where you may need to get those big heals down to under one-second cast times. I'm very excited to see more from the PTR.
On a different note, another quest has been reported: The head of Magtheridon is a quest item that is turned into Thrallmar or Honor Hold. Like the heads of Onyxia and Nefarion, the quest turn-in gives a zone-wide buff: "In Hellfire Peninsula and Hellfire Citadel, increases Honor Hold/Thrallmar reputation gained from killing monsters by 10%." Here is a snippet of the quest dialogue:
The Fall of Magtheridon
The source of Illidan Stormrage's fel orc army has been vanquished. The manufactory halts production of its grim product - at least for now. All that remains are a few trinkets and this severed head - a fitting trophy for a hero of the Alliance/Horde.
This defeat is not only a blow to Illidan, [name]. The Legion too reels... A pit lord commander has been defeated. The siege of Hellfire Citadel now holds no purpose for the Burning Legion. All of their efforts will undoubtedly be turned upon the Black Temple.
Redemption comes for Illidan... and soon.
The rewards are fairly substantial, and in-line with post-Karazhan progression.

URL to rewards are down..

I might be wrong, but I think those haste ratings come to a 3% increase in casting time.
Tiforix May 14th 2007 7:44PM
I hate to play the jealousy card, but I have a hard time getting excited about a new kind of stat that only 5% of players will ever see.
Comic May 14th 2007 7:49PM
more then 5% of the population will see this... all because you wont see it the day it comes out does not mean you wont see it at all. I am positive everyone who raids in wow will see all of this, which is way more then 5%.
Freehugz May 14th 2007 7:54PM
I wouldn't be too sure about that. The attunement for all of these raids is getting pretty linear and its going to be tough for someone who breaks in late in the game to get into these higher up raids.
cheesebanana May 14th 2007 8:18PM
Magtheridon is open door, no keys.
These rewards AREN'T that great also if i may add...in line with karazhan gear.
I can clear karazhan with my eyes closed but magtheridon is still very tough, even fully flasked.
They aren't in life with the difficulty...thats nothing new though tbh.
Robert May 14th 2007 9:08PM
There's no attunement for Magtheridon and he's being nerfed in 2.1. While he'll never be the loot pinata Onyxia was, virtually every 25-man raiding guild will eventually get him down.
The Black Temple, on the other hand.... *shudder*

The one ring is nice for all the clothie casters. The shoulder pattern is nice for priests and mages and destro locks.
Maybe I'll get into a Mag raid one of these years...
Tiforix May 14th 2007 9:27PM
Just to be clear, I was talking about the new haste rating on the Black Temple gear. I really doubt more than a tiny minority of players will ever see it.
I'm in Karazhan now, but I've never been inside Naxxramas or AQ40, and never killed a boss in BWL.
Blizzard in on record saying they intend to release a new expansion every year. Black temple will go the way of AQ40 et. al. before I ever get there, and I bet the same will be true for the vast majority of us.

This is a huge disapointment if Blizzard doesn't play their cards right, there better be s2 arena equivalent gear with Spell Haste rating since it seems that's going to be the new stat to have.
Even when everyone has their desired spell haste, uhh whats the point? why not make a new rank to make people happy? that they dont have to grind anything and just be casual to play the game. But i guess that way you can't make a profit or give people a reason to play WoW

I am a bit nervous about those flat haste ratings.
They DO really change this game. And they do not change it in a desireable way.
Let's for instance take a Rogue and a Mage.
Rogue gets 20 Energy every 2 seconds to perform his special abilities. His white dmg may contribute very mutch to his overall raid DPS, but it isn't going to change anything on an PvP or Arena game.
He will still rely on Energy to get his stuns and stuff out in order to win that challenge.
The mage on the other side will beneftig very mutch from that spell haste. His Polymorph will cast 10% faster, his Fireballs will cast faster. All those things that deliver high damage on a single hit will get off faster and make it harder for any healer to keep somebody alive while it will make it a lot harder for rogues and others to interrupt those spells (Energy is an issue here, Global Cooldown etc).
A poly spell is a 1.5 second cast. Global CD is also 1.5 seconds and your energy ticks every 2 seconds.
We talk about bad timing here, but every rogue will agree with me that that global CD and your Energy ticks are the main cause of missing out an interruption. Especially on stress situations like PvP where you constantly thrive to get your specials out on someone. Abilities are more than often on global-cd and you nice haste rating isn't changing anything on that. You attack faster, get a 10% dmg boost on your white dmg. But nothing on your yellow dmg due to the "all-instant" concept the Rogue has. So you may do 10 dps more, but that doesn't really change anything on the side where Time is an issue (interruption, etc). You will always get only 1 backstab every 6 seconds.
Same goes for warriors, in fact they will get more out of this than rogues due to their white dmg controlling their Rage. But still all your instant abilities have cooldown (pretty long Cooldowns in most cases) and your Heroic strikes won't change anything that really matters.

Finally some decent loot and perhaps reward for cost of being part of a end-game raiding guild.
This is clearly a line in the sand. All those casual/PvP wannabe's who are bound to whine that "spell haste is too imba" and "I'll never see this in my guild" take a running jump off a cliff. Its seems nowadays EVERYONE wants access to the truly decent gear, without putting the hours in to earn it. I hope Blizzard makes the BT attunement quest a real challenge.
Want Black temple loot? Join a decent raiding guild and grind some DKP. Simple. Anyone else? Stick with your crafted epics and quit whining.

All casuals lets all listen to shade. Let's all take a screaming leap. Then when there is only like 1/5 of the number of people that play WoW. He'll be whining that nothing is updated as much becasue surprise surprise not as much money to pay developers to work on WoW all the time. Shade watch what you ask for, you just might get it.
Shade May 15th 2007 8:16AM
13. Spoken like a true casual. I have a great idea to keep everyone happy, lets vendor all items - Including epics. You can just swan on down there and buy them, that wouldnt keep people renewing subscriptions would it?
The challange and is exactly the thing that keeps people interested. Blizzard needs to appeal to all gamers, casual and hardcore. Its just pains me to hear casuals whine when that you dont have access to end-game loot.
Oh and dont worry yourself cottonsocks - I will have lost interest in this game long long before Blizzard does.

@11- If I recall correctly, a rogues global cooldown is 1 second to account for the energy tick. Also, a rogue does have Slice N'Dice which increases their attack speed by 30% for a few seconds based on how many combo points were on. From a PvP perspective, your not really accounting talents that reduce cast time and energy cost, but regardless, if spell haste is the new stat to have, please give people attack speed haste rating gear.

I have to agree with #14. Even I don't raid a lot (only in Kara, heroics) but there needs to be a line where people that put more time in the game than I do get better loot. If you work hard for something, then it should be better than what people that afk'd in AV get for a few hours a day/week.
I used to be the same, I want epics for free blah blah blah. But then I realized something. I wasn't even trying to work for them. Not only that, but I wasn't going to do much with them anyways. It's like having an ice cream machine and only having it because you want it.
So then I did something for my gear. I started to raid a little, MC, ZG, AQ20. And I got a few epics, and I was pretty happy about it! BC rolls out, time to get geared up and head to Kara.
TLDR Verison
There are no free epics. I was a casual, I wanted something, and realized that I would have to work for it, just like everyone else had. Someone who puts 20 hours in this game per week should NEVER have gear comparable to someone who has put in 70 per week.
the six winger May 15th 2007 8:43AM
That's funny I said nothing about free epics or even that I wanted better loot. Infact I'm not even working on a character in outland right now. You kinda added that. I just said that telling casuals to take a flying leap was a bad idea.
the six winger May 15th 2007 8:54AM
By the way I agree. If your casual allow us to get epics. the blacksmithing ones are nice atleast in my eyes. And let raiders be purpled out. It's fine by me. I just said remember that your purples are being added every patch because of the large player base. Ergo telling most of the large player base to take a flying leap is shooting yourself in the foot. As with all advise make sure your not counting the teeth of a gift horse.

@ 13
WOW had plenty of subscribers before BC when raid gear was what it was supposed to be: Above the PVP gear as it took more effort to earn. You think that everyone would quit just because BC came out. I think most PVPers blow it out of proportion as only a select few would leave. Things haven’t changed that much, just people getting mad cause they are now used to being given crafted gear (Kill a mob, Kill another mob, make a Epic) on par with what the raiders get from 25 man boss fights that take a lot of time / materials / durability to learn and accomplish.

please read all comments before responding. You also added epics to my comment although I said nothing about epics.
