Breakfast topic: Are you respeccing in 2.1.0?
2.1.0 appears to be just over the horizon. Some people are speculating that it might hit today, while others are guessing we'll be waiting a week. Nonetheless, it's time for everyone to prepare for the changes to come -- which means some of us are about to suck it up and respec.
Blizzard has already announced that they don't consider any of the talent tree changes major enough to warrant free respecs and talent point refunds for any class. But most classes have seen at least a couple of modifications, whether for specific talents (rogues and Imp Sap, paladins and Illumination) or general effectiveness (shamans, hunters.) Several shamans I know plan to spec resto instead of enhancement/elemental after the patch, and at least one pally in my guild is going to give prot a chance.
Personally, I'll be respeccing both my rogue and my paladin. It may be time for my rogue to finally give 41-20-0 or 30-26-5 a chance, and my AOE-grinding protadin is definitely picking up improved Holy Shield. Are you going to respec in 2.1.0? If so, what are you going to respec to?

Give the 41 pt assassination build a shot...I love my rogue's mutilate build. In instance runs, I can out-dps all but the best geared warlocks or mages.
I'll respec so I can reassign the subtlety points I've spent to get imp sap. There's a few points there that I used only to get that, and I'll put them into combat now.

Well respecting no.
Fine tuning? Of course.
Right now I'm a protection Paladin with 0/44/17, I change some skill points in the proctection tree (improved holy shield) and I'm still thinking of switching 5 Points from retribution to protection (5% more damage with one hand weapon equiped).
Let's see

I do plan on respec for my rogue for sure and possible respec on my Disc/Holy priest. The Imp Sap for all rogues now is a welcome ability for all rogues IMO and now I can spec combat fist and go deep into the combat tree with the rest in Assassination and maybe a few in MoD.
The priest I have been just wating for a reason and I guess this patch is as good a time as any to get rid of my leveling build and try to focus on a more solid Disc/Holy build with some PvP and Farming ideas thrown in there. I have a little Holy and Shadow now and I want to get totally out of shadow spells and get some more holy healing and damage spells.
Here's looking at progress.

I saved my talent point the last two levels for imp. holy shield (really hoping it hits today so i don't have to sit on them more) and built my prot up with the changes in mind when I respecced this weekend.
Waiting to see if imp. SoR is really going to be worth looking at with the changes. (my guess is no).

Anyone know if the patch is hitting today???

As guild CL, I take the burden of respeccing to Survival. I will have insane AGI and a retuded amount of CRITS. My DPS will be gimped, but I will trap and sleep targets with solace.

My main is a shaman. Respecced to resto since Shamans are supposed to "shut up and heal" again. So much for Kalgan and his vision of the Shaman class as the DPS/Healer hybrid ;-) But since Shamans will always be the worst of all healing classes in WoW because of their horrible mana managenemt (compared to all other healing classes) I am not very confident. And rerolling is no option for me because WoW isn't my only hobby, you see. So, maybe I will just cancel my subscription, dunno ...

Being a druid, there isn't really much to respec over. My pally friend (who is currently on Gruul/Magtheridon) tells me the illumination nerf isn't as bad as people make it. He agrees that you shouldnt finish a fight with 90-100% mana, and that he is still finishing bosses with around 50% mana, more or less. So he is staying holy/blessing of kings spec.
My priest buddies are either staying shadow (since it's what we need em for arena!) or going healing. Either way it doesn't matter. I still believe pallys are going to be the superior healer with great survivability and mana efficiency. What priests need is a total revamp on their holy and disc trees.

The PVE raiding build for my mage has been 10/48/3 for a while now, but with the new improved Artic Winds talent I'm seriously considering switching to frost.
I'm thinking of 10/0/51 or 18/0/43.

@4 Survival is actually better DPS than MM once you have the gear for it. Nobody should be respeccing survival until you have at least 500 agi unbuffed pre-LR. Once you're there, your DPS is about even with MM's dps, and as you keep adding better gear (focus on agi/crit) your damage will keep going up.
The key to survival raid dps is not big shots, it's a steady flow of respectable crits (I usually crit about 1300-1600).

I'll be taking my mage from 18/0/43 to 10/0/51 to pick up the Arctic Winds damage. Hopefully it'll be enough to stop me from feeling completely gimp in raids (like I do now). Otherwise, it's either time to farm up mats for ANOTHER tailoring set (shudder) and then go 10/48/3 like 99.99999% of the other raiding mages out there, or shelve the mage in favor of my shadow priest.

I'll be respeccing my retribution pally - just moving points around.
I'd had survivability issues in the early 40's so I had gone Prot to Precision, took full Deflection and Benediction and was avoiding Vengeance in favor of mana efficiency. But with the change to Vengeance and the added damage for Improved Sanctity Aura - I think a switch back to concentrating on beating the crap out of stuff is warranted...besides, I think I'm geared well enough now (read actually have some INT plate) to deal with the survivability issues.
Maktar May 15th 2007 10:00AM
I already specced resto a few days ago - i'm enjoying it for the most part, but I'm really going to miss being a whirlwind of death.
Libri May 15th 2007 10:03AM
I decided once i heard the news about Illumination i wondered if going pure holy was a good idea. therefore i am already respeccing. I planned to put everyone point into noly but now i have decided to go for a 50, 11, 0 spec so i can enchance my survivability as well as get the Blessing of Kings to give me some lee way in soloing and instances. Im still going mainly Healadin, as it will take a lot more the nerfing illumination to stop me healing, but not i thought a bit of prot enchancement on the side would do me some good.
Thijz May 15th 2007 10:14AM
As a shaman I'm planning to stay enhancement untill I reach lvl 70, then I'll probably switch to resto.
Beaverius May 15th 2007 10:24AM
Survival is pretty much the shit. It's pretty much regarded as a broken tree and, IMHO, is, but, you can make it work. THe key is to get lots of AGI and get that crit going at the expense of AP. The trapping aspect is very fun since you can chain-trap/perma-trap/whatever you want to call it a bit more soundly.
As far as DPS goes, you won't be gimped. THe trick is that you just need a high enough crit. I think the point of the DPS shift happens more around 700 unbuffed AGi rather than 500.
A few other things to think about. Readiness=double rapid fires, used in conjunctin with a large boss fight, you can get more rapid fires off. And since you can FD rigth after you dump a shit ton of dps(and aggro) onto the boss, you can keep killin without dealing with aggro issues.
Thrill of the hunt= hunter divine illumination. the more you crit, the more mana you have
Using myself as an example
29.9% unbuffed+~1.5% from kings +~1% druid buff+~1.5% mongoose pot+5% leader of the pack= lots of crit, dps, mana efficiency
In other words, great stuff for raiding.
robodex May 15th 2007 10:23AM
My rogue doesn't have imp sap, so he's not respeccing.
Brasson May 15th 2007 10:41AM
This slaughtering bird-demon needs threat reduction. Subtlety for the win.
