2.1 and Beyond: New arena: Ruins of Lordaeron
"Games for Windows" magazine has released their third article about the things to come post patch 2.1. Above the Undercity will be a new PVP arena, called "the Ruins of Lordaeron."
This will be a new 2, 3, and 5-man arena available sometime after the next content patch. Blizzard has taken what they learned from the previous two arenas and tried some new things in the new map. Attempting to cut down on the geometry features and line-of-sight breaking objects was a goal in this arena. While there are still a few hiding spots, they tend to be in the middle of the map.
Another option that Blizzard is thinking about implementing is the ability to choose which arena map you play on. The downside, however, is that by doing so you are limiting the number of people in the queues by splitting them up into smaller specific queues.
While I've never been a big PVP buff, I'm sure that those of our readers that are will be excited to have another new arena map to play!

I just hope that when it gets implemented, walking through it in the main game won't automatically flag you as a horde player, since that's the easy way into UC. I know if you get too close to the arenas in Outland you get flagged, but that's a bit more understandable.

This arena is in the 2.1 Test Realm btw...

The "Ruins of Lordaeron" Arena isn't beyond 2.1.0. It's part of 2.1.0, as seen in the notes for it.

Line-of-sight breaking objects are the worst. I'm not a fan of the Blade's Edge arena at all. I don't mind the one in Nagrand, but sometimes those fights get started slowly if you have some frightened people hiding behind the pillars. Overall i'll still probably queue in any arena to get my 10 base matches for my team(s), but above that I may queue only for Nagrand or the RoL if given the chance.

I hate the Blade's Edge Arena as well and can't wait till we can q up for a specific arena.

@5: Let me guess, you're a caster/ranged... -.-
Newsflash: LoS breaking objects are not there for your pleasure, they're there to even out the game and give melee classes a chance.
(If I'm wrong and you are a melee class, why the hell do you hate them? Bestest thing ever :P)

@7 I play both casting and melee, but when i'm in melee the LoS breaking objects in Blades Edge disrupt my casting teammates too much.
I know they aren't there for fun. Perhaps I should have been more clear so anyone can understand. I think Blade's Edge has too many LoS breaking objects in too small of a space. I don't mind them in general, but I believe that there should be a few less or at least make the angles a little more forgiving.
I say keep the columns (aka pally pedestals) as LoS breaking, but go a little easier on the areas around the bottoms of the ramps (corners and such). The tricky areas around the edges of the bridge in the middle don't feel to me like they have the same LoS geometry as similar objects in the rest of the game. That being said, realistically looking at the game mechanics the normal PvE environment is VERY forgiving about LoS for ranged attacks.
Maybe I just got used to the PvE LoS mechanics and need to re-tune my own gameplay an style to match those mecahnics in Blades Edge.
I normally prefer to play with the camera zoomed out pretty good to get a big view of the action. Using that camera angle is surely causing some of my frustration when trying to get those tricky LoS ranged attacks on someone in Blade's Edge.

LoS saves me from becoming a CCed the whole battle. As the healer, I tend to be the first target.

You mean there are people who play with the camera not zoomed out as far as it will let you in a given area???

screw new arena's, i want new BG's...

More BG's means longer queue times.
