Authentication system down for an hour tonight: important?

Ok, now maybe we're getting a little paranoid about this, but look: Blizzard is performing a one hour maintenance on the authentication system this evening, according to the login screen. It starts at 11:00 PDT, and thus will go to midnight PDT...
... which is exactly when their announcement is supposed to happen! Coincidence?!?!?
All right, so maybe it is. But when have they ever done maintenance on a Friday night, huh? Maybe, they're adding a new game (like, oh I don't know, a new MMORPG) to the authentication system, and that's why they have to bring it down. Did you ever think of that?
Yes, the speculation is running a little wild, but the announcement in Korea is just hours away. We just can't wait!

Might also be preparation for the arena matches, but I'm just guessing here.
But yeah, it's possible they might demo the new game and use the auth servers to route it or so.

what if they made a world of diablo or world of starcraft.......and linked it to WoW?

i thought about this. notice the 2.1 patch has been completed in the background downloader? maybe a surprise rollout of 2.1?

to #3. if it is another MMO, it definitely would be a discounted unified account subscription. no doubt. but the main point here is. this announcement definitely has more than one part to it and, possibly more than one game. on the schedule of events, its listed as
Announcement of new products (plural)

Possibilities:
1. The news affects WoW in some way, perhaps the announcement of the next expansion. They are anticipating people jumping on WoW to talk about this, and they don't want some type of fault to crash the servers during this surge of people.
2. The new game is StarCraft: Ghost, and is playable online. The demo will be released, with multiplayer, thus the patch to auth servers.
3. There was a problem with authentication that they wanted to fix, because they just found it.
4. Tseric made sweet love to the authentication server before he quit...literally. Cleanup on server 2!
5. There is some sort of game that is being released, in the next few days, which will need to use the auth servers.
6. The new StarCraft league system will be using the same auth servers as Bnet, and needs a patch.

Refresh the Blizzard page, Starcraft Ghost logo is up there instead of Burning Crusades under Current Projects now.

They must be doing it based on time zones. Here in the PDT its still the WoW page.

I've refreshed the real Blizzard Page (page after the mystery splash page) as #7 did. Still only lists World of Warcraft and Burning Crusade under "Current Projects".

I can't log into Blood Furnace was in the middle of tanking and instance and got booted, now going on 30 minutes of not being able to log in. Super Annoying.

Call it Photoshop if you like but that pic is legit, all i did in Photoshop was crop it and resize for photobucket. Personally I'm not even a Starcraft fan I was hoping something new for Warcraft.

Yeah...lookin' at your screenshot SketchyNinja, that page isn't nearly up to date with what's being shown on there now. ;)
I'm guessing you haven't been there for awhile, so your cache (which needs a good cleaning, if this is the case) remembered that old un-refreshed version of the main Blizzard Page.
