Hostage crisis: Orgimmar

On the Ravenholdt (US) realm mayhem is afoot. A member of the Alliance guild Colossus posted on the realm forums that they have taken the Orgimmar Wind Rider Master hostage. "We have your Flight Master for ransom," the ominous message reads, "There is a Mining Pick up for 100 gold on the neutral Auction House. Buy it and Doras will be freed."
Although this has been done before, it still is a novel way to bring role play into the world of Azeroth. I am always fascinated with what players can do within the framework of the game.
Can no one help poor Doras? Until something is done, all transportation for the Horde has come to a screeching halt. Please, for the love of Thrall, do something! Do we expect retaliation, or will the Horde give in and buy that blasted mining pick? Oh the humanity!

Oh, this is priceless!

I remember when GOONS did this it was hilarious. But goons also did it a whole lot better as they basically set up a world PVP. Hail our GOON overlords.

Meh. Killing flightmasters seems to be the 'new' world pvp thing now that DK's are gone. I say bring them back, kiling FM's is annoying and only makes the game less fun. Losing a few arena points each time a member of your party kills one should be deterrent enough.

I don't quite understand how the flight master stays alive all this time: do the hunters have to just keep kiting him nonstop the entire time?
Bootsanator Jul 5th 2007 9:21AM
Why is it that things like this always get ruined by some noob? like kiting the lil tauren out of org a while back all the way to, what was it, silithus?
Oh well, still hilarious. i was just hoping for more screenshots, maybe constant updates, finding out where they were taking him next :P

Meh, they'd be better off doing it in like, Thunder Bluff. I mean, I would just run out and take the zep/boats around the world, quicker than running to Xroads. However, if you did this in TB, um, that's one HELLA run to Camp Mojache.
Corrodias May 21st 2007 5:13PM
This is indeed amusing... but i'd like to point out that intentionally camping an NPC used for transportation for an extended amount of time is a violation of the game rules under the definition of griefing.
Corrodias May 21st 2007 5:14PM
- or of disrupting gameplay, anyway. It's not an intended pvp situation.

100g is really reasonable for ransom.
Heck, mages probably raked in a lot more than that offering ports out of Org...
chris poloncic May 21st 2007 5:34PM
7@ The nearest flight path from org is Ashenvale, that's a decently long ride. Taking the zeps only get you to the Eastern Kingdoms.

@#11/chris poloncic
Actually isn't the Crossroads the closest FP? A quick mount up and run maybe a mile to Crossroads, then fly out? Either way, I'd say Thunder Bluff would be a better target. No nearby Zepps or anything, so they'd have to run to Camp Taurajo. But if they were smart, these Alliance would get rid of ALL the Barrens flightmasters.

This kind of stuff is what makes WoW an MMO - it isn't griefing, it's a living world. Very cool, imho, although obviously it's been done before.
AndyF May 21st 2007 6:04PM
I might be wrong but I think you could indefinitely kite someone by using a non-damaging curse or similar?
I think that's how Gamon gets kited all around the world by people who would accidentally kill him if they autoattacked him.
Geoff May 21st 2007 8:15PM
From reading the thread. Seems like after the horde finding his location and attempting a rescue. Some alliance noob killed the flight master so the hostage situation is now over.
GG all involved. Drama FTW
Geoff May 21st 2007 8:21PM
Oh. On kiting and staying alive:
Sheep is great for a quick heal before resuming the kite.
Same goes for mind control + heal.

I love these kind of things, if it would happen on my server (too bad i'm on the boring European side) I would /cheer at the alliances for being so creative! I would just use Astrall Recall to Shattrath to take a portal from there, but I do imagine it sucks for the low lvls that have to deal with a heartstone.
tyu May 22nd 2007 4:00AM
Really? I doubt.
How could they do that?
Libri May 22nd 2007 5:58AM
At least this time the Devs did not nip this in the bud :P
Still, very well done, although it's been done before, it;s what makes the game fun when players decide to take matters into thier own hands. What really made me laugh was the news of all the Mages overcharging for ports, with people having little choice but to pay XD Lol.
Well done to all those involved. more fo the same please! =)

@7 - That would assume there is anyone in thunderbluff that would be bothered. On my server it's always empty there.
