Patch 2.1 live tomorrow!
For those of you who didn't want to wander through the extremely long transcript for the Stratics House of Commons Dev Chat in the last post, I thought I would point out one extremely pertinent bit. According to Tigole, Kalgan, Drysc and Eyonix, patch 2.1 is going live tomorrow morning to all servers. If you've been holding off on running the torrent, or meaning to look for that patch mirror site but never got around to it, you might want to get that download started. In either case, patches generally mean strange bugs and rolling restarts, if not an extended downtime in the first place. Best to prepare for an extended WoW jones now and some frustration as the bugs get worked out of the system.
Me? I've got my World of Warcraft home game, WoW Insider, and caffeine. I'm ready to face patch day!
What kind of things do you do on patch day? Have any particular things you do on maintenance Tuesdays like the WoW LJ community does with their Caturday - Servers Screwed thread? Share your tips and save your fellow WoW players from boredom tomorrow!
Edited to add: Yep, Drysc confirmed extended downtime:
We will be performing extended maintenance on May 22 for all realms.
Argent Dawn, Aggramar, Arthas, Azgalor, Bleeding Hollow, Bloodhoof, Burning Blade, Burning Legion, Durotan, Earthen Ring, Elune, Eonar, Eredar, Gilneas, Gorefiend, Kargath, Laughing Skull, Lightning's Blade, Llane, Lothar, Madoran, Magtheridon, Malygos, Mannoroth, Medivh, Shadowmoon, Shattered Hand, Skullcrusher, Stormrage, Thunderhorn, Thunderlord, Trollbane, Warsong, Zul'jin

Can't you see the 2.1.0 Notes on the right side of WoWInsider? It's one of the 3 ad-style columns, along with Build Shop and Tier 6.

@12 Great season, unfortunately it ends on a cliffhanger which will never be resolved :( (*shakes fist at HBO* You renew Entourage and cancel great shows like Carnivale!!!)
annoula May 22nd 2007 9:56AM
@24 - And great shows like Rome... but I do love entourage :)

Too soon! You're patching too soon!
Seriously, this thing is going to be acting screwier than Bender's aunt Rita, and she's a screw. Expect massive server downtime and much repatching.
(Also, Pre-BT raid bosses still require some more re-tuning, Vashj is far harder to kill even in full tier5 with the alchemy changes)

Yeah so as a priest, I guess I'm pretty much one of the few who aren't happy with some of the 2.1 changes at all.
Yeah, yeah.. QQ and all that jazz.

Got my background DLer running while I'm at work, although I already have about 270MB, so I doubt there's much to download.

Patch day = addon day as well.
I am on EST so I work (9-5, M-F) during the entire patch time usually. It doesn't impact my day much except the extra time downloading and/or addon management after I get home.
However, on days the servers go down without prior notice I usually clean my apartment, run errands, or sneak in a quick workout. If I'm still bored, I'll play some Worms 3D.

@30 Rainwizard....Not a noob question. Downloading patches by default goes on in the background downloader when you are not playing the game. Check your system tray in the lower right hand corner of your computer (press the expand button if necessary). You usually will need to turn on WoW to the screen allowing you to click to play. It will tell you there if the patch is available in the lower right corner. If nothing appears, you probably have downloaded all the data already. If not, it will tell you that once you exit WoW, the download will continue. Just leave your system running.
This is a default scenario. You may have a different setup. Just as a sidenote though, the background downloader works differently from patching a system from loading the game. Those patches work after you click "Restart" from the WoW application. Those patches are available for download from mirror sites as well. Patch-day releases generally are not available like those until a day or two after the release. That is where the background downloader is needed to upload the newest patches.
Hope that helps. If anyone else has information that may expand on something that I missed, please correct information that I may not have conveyed correctly.
Good question Rainwizard.

The primal nether requirement is 100% fair. Yes, Virginia, to make the absolute tip-top, near Tier 5 quality items, you WILL, in fact, have to put some work into it instead of buying it all off the AH.

@30,31
You can also manually start the DL'er
c:\program files\world of warcraft\BackgroundDownloader
I would assume its in a similar spot on the Mac
