Vashj attunement scrolls now available on PTR
Our good friend Boubouille over at MMO Champion has unearthed yet another fun piece of loot over on the PTR, but this one's more useful out of battle than it is in battle: it's a Serpentshrine Cavern attunement scroll, that apparently drops from Lady Vashj. This thing will be a godsend to casual gamers, or even hardcore folks with alts who never get played for attunement. Basically (I think it's a one-per-kill drop, though maybe it's less than that), Vashj after 2.1 will drop a scroll (with one use, I believe) that can attune anyone level 70 to Serpentshrine Cavern. So all your guild has to really do now is attune 25 people and down Vashj, and then she'll drop scrolls which will let other folks in. All of the raiding fun, without any of the attunement quest (which ran from Heroic Slave Pens through Gruul and Karazhan).
In other Vashj attunement news, Boubouille is also reporting that unlimited Vials of Eternity are dropping-- one for every person in the raid. That's needed for the Mount Hyjal attunement quest, and before, only a few dropped at a time. So a couple of good changes for casual raiders-- looks like the road to Mount Hyjal is a little less steep than it used to be.

This is fantastic news! It's been hard enough to get my folks attuned for Kara - I didn't even want to consider taking them all through all the steps for the 25-mans.

My comment sort of turned into a blog, you can check it out at

@2 -
If your alt can't take the time to complete the hassle of rep grinds or find raiding spots, they have zero busines in SSG or The Eye.

Ok am I missing something, but in order to kill vashj to get that scroll, does one not need to enter SSC? And in order to enter SSC does one not need to be attuned already? So what's the point in having a BOP item which will attune you to SSC drop for 25 raiders who are already in (and therefore attuned to) SSC?
khaosworks May 21st 2007 11:58AM
@4: The scroll is BoP, yes, but it allows you to use it on someone else to attune them.

Wonder how much attunements will start selling for...

I'm not sure how anyone can really view this as a bad thing. I mean, if you're really opposed to the idea, your guild can just throw away any that you do get. It's only a matter of time before some guilds stop running Kara and Gruul ... I imagine a lot of the guilds that have progressed the furthest in SSC and The Eye have already done this. So for people in these guilds, getting an alt or a close-friend attuned once the guild has progressed past that stage would be pretty time-consuming.
I'm going to have to agree with the others that this isn't a thing aimed at casual gamers. Besides the fact that Vashj is barely killable in the first place, I think it's going to be a while before guilds will be able to spend any of these on people that won't contribute to the raiding group in a significant way.

I better head to Wal-Mart to get enough high-chairs and kleenex for the "hardcore raiders". Maybe they have a special on soapboxes too? Prepare for the preaching and "____" doesn't deserve this and if you can't take the time to _______ then you should just be happy with Kara level gear and below!
Please. It's a game. They are BoP so there won't be much abusing these items. It would be different if you could buy them on the AH whenever you wanted.
Honestly, how many people can take down Vashj on YOUR server? If you aren't in a guild that can or aren't sleeping with someone who can then it won't impact your game-life at all.

That is a ridiculous idea. I agree with #3.
also, Mike, Read this please. lol

Wartooth: /facepalm. Fixed. Thanks.

ok. those that say this is a bad idea. what happens when you have exactly 25-30 people attuned and one night only 24 people show up. either not raid or raid because you were able to key the casual guild member who sat on waitlist for the nightbane kills or gruul kills?

Man, thank you for that link on then versus than. You know, experts have said that first comes the incorrect use of then/than, and than comes the cannibalism, anarchy and barbarians. Improper use of English can kill and hurt the ones we love, and the heathens at WoWInsider are all sending us to hell in a handbasket due to their flagrant disregard for the beloved consonants and vowels that I and Wartooth hold so dear. Oh, and Wartooth, you forgot to capitalize the 'A' in also. Oh, and the 'R' in read should be lowercase.
Wartooth May 21st 2007 3:10PM
I know james, but i don't care, i'm not the one running a news site. Also, thank you Mike for reading that :), it's nice to know that the people who run the site listen to their readers.

Also "You know, experts have said that first comes the incorrect use of then/than, and than comes the cannibalism, anarchy and barbarians." you mean 'then comes the cannibalism' :)
James May 21st 2007 3:51PM
Yes, Wartooth, I added that solely to be silly. Though, now re-reading my own post, it should be 'Wartooth and I'. Oops.

Meh, at least we actually use grammar and punctuation, unlike most people who play World of Warcraft.. ¬¬

Most of the other attunements were based off other instance runs (MC-BRD, BWL-UBRS, Naxx-lots of strat/scholo runs).
I think this is mainly going to be used to help alts get attuned and provide an extra level of versatility in raids. One of our officers in our guild is a rogue with a priest alt. She prefers to bring her rogue, but if we're short on healing she'll bring the priest. It makes more of that type of substitution easier when it comes to attunement status.
But agreed, I imagine guilds could sell these for several thousand gold.
Bill G May 21st 2007 5:00PM
If one Vash kill = one attunement is hardly a flood of newbs rolling into SSC since you can only do it weekly.
I think it's a good idea to allow guilds that are already into SSC to skip having to go back and do Gruul and Mag to attune additional members for their 25 man SSC raids.
Assembling 25 folks to do something fun and new is hard enough, having to get them together to go over old content is a hassle.
Freehugz May 21st 2007 5:03PM
I can only imagine the guild drama that will arise over who gets the free attunement
