Breakfast Topic: Would you change your race?

The other night we finished the Path of Conquest quest chain in Shadowmoon, and I found myself running around blasting Colossi as a Blood Elf. It was fascinating to see what I would look like if I had rerolled my character, something I consider on and off just for fun.
Often times we get a chance to respec our talents. What if we could respec our race? If there was a free chance to reselect your character's race, would you choose differently? I know despite the faction shift the Blood Elf race is looking very tempting after playing a human for so long.

@14 *nods* That's what I meant... I'd only really consider a race change within my faction.

I love Horde people hating on the Human racials. Diplomacy FTW. Like 15 said, it makes one of the most boring part of the game go by much quicker. Dont forget +5 Maces/Swords which solid. I love my human pally on Whisperwind and I wouldn't change to any other races. Oh yeah, so how is it in Old Hillsbrad they change everyone to human, but when a druid changes form, they look different. Seeing a Nelf is too much for these people, but seeing a walking tree is ok?

@18. Easier said than done. ;-)

I am torn because I have a blood elf rogue but I wouldnt mind making her an undead rogue named Idakimasu. I might just make an undead warrior named that.

@11- Old Hillsbrad definitely doesn't disguise gnomes, and I think it leaves dwarves alone as well. Everything else gets the Human Disguise buff.

@8
yeah it was weird to go into Hillsbrad and see my nelf as a human. She kind of resembled Starbuck from the new Battlestar galactica. And the dranei in my group was bald.
In my case I feel stuck becuase I don't like the look of tauren women but I get tired of being a nelf female becuase they're so stereoytpical and I hate the random bouncing they do. I guess if I had a choice I might have made her a Tauren Male.
Anyway it would be really nifty if you could switch races, make it an epic quest chain or something and a one time only deal so people would think long and hard about it. But I doubt blizz would do it, we're still fighting to get them to give us more customizations for our characters like just changing skin tone or hair, nevermind switching race.

I agree with number 3, if I could change all my alliance characters to hordes I would take that chance!
Christian Holton May 22nd 2007 10:52AM
If I changed allegiance from Horde to Alliance, I'd switch my Tauren Hunter to Dwarf, for no other reason than that's what I typically play, dwarf warriors. My undead mage would go to Gnome, my orc rogue would go nightelf, and my troll shaman would go draenei.
If I could change something about my main characters class, I'd definitely reintroduce Plainsrunning. That was badass and it made perfect sense. Logistics be damned!

I enjoy Gnome meleers. All that punch in that tiny little package always cracks me up. My Nelf Rogue would definitely be Gnome.

Actually human females are some of the best looking characters in the game for alot of classes. I know during that halloween patch you could eat some treats that turned you into a human female pirate. I was amazed how different my character and class felt. They kind of glide around like they're weightless. They look really cool and I actually felt I played alot better belive it or not. They also look really cool in videos. Most of the best rogue videos have been human females or male undead.
Me personally though I'd reroll gnome. And probably male gnome and make him really ugly with green hair. The racials and physical size of them are the best for pvp. I'm not a big fan of being male and playing a girl charcter. I don't have a problem with other people doing it but I'm not into it myself. Some of my bank alts are female and when other dudes hit on me I feel like I wanna puke. How anyone could stand their main being female I have no idea.

I would reroll my Undead Priest and Cow Shaman Dranei so fast given the chance. You've got to be kidding me like Fear Ward, a HOT that stacks with Gear and +1 to hit with spells/weapons aura. As a PVE focused player those are just batshit. Humans with their rep bonus, dwarves & Dranei with fear ward for preists. Anyone who tells you that Horde racials are so awesome must only be thinking in PVP terms.

I play a gnome mage and wouldn't change it for anything. Gnome FTW!!
Baluki May 22nd 2007 11:49AM
I'd stick with Troll for my shaman (unless I could switch to Draenei and still be in the Horde), but I've regretted my race decisions on several of my alts.
Tauren Hunter: Change him to an Orc or Troll. I'd rather have Command or Bow Specialization than War Stomp, which is almost worthless to me. Does anyone know if Berserking stacks with Rapid Shot and Imp. AOH?
Blood Elf Mage: Change him to a Troll, maybe. I'm not a big fan of Tap/Torrent.
But oh well. Will never happen, and I'm mostly happy with them anyway.

Maybe this is a topic for another entry, but what if faction transfers were incentivized. We have realm splits nowadays to balance out server populations, so why can't we have faction transfers to balance out alliance vs horde? It would be nice to not be outnumbered all the time in world pvp....
Draenei Priest May 23rd 2007 9:44AM
I actually did the reroll thing from a Night Elf to Draenei Priest for the PvE racials. They're working out great, but if I had the chance, I would definitely switch my human mage and gnome warlock to....anything else! I chose my warlock as a joke, so he's ugly as sin, and my human mage is the same. I wish there were beauty salons in WoW!
Threecubed May 22nd 2007 1:13PM
To #32... Yes, Beserking DOES stack with Rapid Fire and Imp Hawk. It's nice to pop them all at once.
There've been a few times I wish I had been a different race. My first 60, an Undead Priest should've been Troll. My Paladin was Human (I can't stand Poomans, they're so boring) and wished I was a Gnome, nevermind the fact there's no Gnome Pallies.
My current characters I like enough, no desire to switch races, really.
And about the female toons talk? Maybe it's just me, but I play male and female characters about equally, and I rarely get hit on while playing one of my girls. There were a few occasions, but it was a misunderstanding that is easily rectified by a simple "lol im a guy lol." Eh.

I'd love blizzard to add a pay-cash method to change character aspects - mostly race (same faction though) and gender, but also maybe your Name.
Thallid May 22nd 2007 2:03PM
If I could change the race for my paladin, I would switch it to either Dwarf (for Stoneform) or Blood Elf. (for the AoE silence and faction switch) But then again, I don't know how I'll get used to doing without the extra faction rep Humans get... (Yep, it's that addictive.)
Heraclea May 22nd 2007 3:46PM
I am currently a human warrior. I would reroll in an instant to Draenei for the benefit of Gift of the Naruu without having to do the 1 to 70 bit all over again.
Byron May 22nd 2007 4:22PM
@32: Warstomp is a great racial for PvP hunters, since it's one of only two that covers your deadzone and gives you some non-talented defense there (Arcane Torrent being the other). Though having said that, I certainly wouldn't trade my Orc hunter for that, since all four Orc racials are beneficial to hunters.
@34: When I first started playing WoW last Oct, it was my first MMORPG, and I rolled a bunch of toons to experiment with. One was a female NE rogue. By level 4 I'd gotten hit on 4 times and got tired of saying, 'I'm a dude, dude'. Rerolled all male chars after that. Though admittedly I'm still sometimes sorely tempted to roll a female again just to repeat the social experiments SomethingAwful.com did a while back in WoW. That was some funny stuff.
