Guild version 2.1.0

Last night, in honor of today's patch, my guild leader restructured our guild. We've been having some tough times with motivation as of late, it the general consensus amongst the officers was that the guild members felt no progression as the guild was organized. We therefore sat down as a group in the Wildhammer Stronghold inn and took stock of what we had available.
A lot of great ideas came up, and one of them was what we implemented last night. The guild ranks are now focused around the Burning Crusade attunements, and each member receives a rank for which of the raid levels he is ready for. Although only a few of us (read one) are ready for Karazhan, the ranking system includes readiness for
As we were finishing up the planning of the new guild structure, I began to wonder about what other guilds do as far as ranks are concerned. In all my time playing World of Warcraft I have only been in one guild, so I can't use my experience to satiate my curiosity. Instead, I'll use yours. How are your guilds organized? What challenges do you face in keeping guilds motivated, and how do you tackle those challenges?

Our guild uses ranks based on how long you have been in the guild and how many raids you attend. I've been in a guild where you advanced in rank by dueling other memebers and the winner takes the others ranks. I think the seccond is pretty stupid but still it was amusing for the little bit I was in there.

I think most people base ranks about generally how helpful you are to the greater goal of your guild (if it's raiding then it's raid attendance, etc. if it's roleplaying it's event assisting, etc. if it's just general game/PvE/PvP it's how helpful you are etc. As for PvP... it should just be based around how well you play for your team and if you're there to support them in and out of PvP.

The Stratics Dev chat had some interesting comments about guild progression. The devs seemed to think that most guilds would find progression a lot easier after patch 2.1. So that might help solve your motivation problem a bit.
Just be glad that you only have to worry about motivating 10 people instead of 40... sheesh, that was a nightmare.

In most the guild I've been in you're either an officer or you're not. More rankings are usually made for novelty purposes.

My guild structured our ranks to keep track of who was who... guild master, GM alt, officer, officer alt, member, member alt, member bank, etc.

I'd say you've got some big motivational problems if you only have one attuned for kara :)
